Developing a noninvasive procedure using labeled monoclonal antibody anti-VEGF (bevacizumab) for detection of endometriosis.
5 p. il.The off-label use of bevacizumab labeled with 99mTc as a new radiopharmaceutical for imaging of endometriosis is a promising noninvasive, new clinical procedure. The bevacizumab in monoclonal antibodies targeted at vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is superexpressed in cases of endometriosis. In this study we evaluate the imaging of endometriosis lesion in rats (induced to endometriosis) using bevacizumab-99mTc. The results showed that bevacizumab-99mTc imaged the lesion and support his use for NuclearMedicine applied to gynecology. Also the results appointed that this radiopharmaceutical has a hepatobiliary excretion. It is important to notice that the dose used was almost 0,01% of the usual dose for the bevacizumab
Proposal for ultrasonic technique for evaluation elastic constants in uo2 pellets
Pellets of uranium dioxide are used as fuel in nuclear power reactors, in which are exposed to high thermal
gradients. This high energy will initiate fusion in the central part of the pellet. The expansion of the uranium
dioxide pellets, resulting from fission products, can cause fissures or cracks, therefore, the study of their
behavior is important. This work aims to develop and propose an ultrasonic technique to evaluate the elastic
constants of UO2 pellets. However, because of the difficulties in handling nuclear material, we proposed an
initial study of alumina specimens. Alumina pellets are also ceramic material and their porosity and dimensions
are in the similar range of dioxide uranium pellets. They also are used as thermal insulation in the fuel rods,
operating under the same conditions. They were fabricated and used in two different sets of 10
alumina pellets with densities of 92% and 96%. The developed ultrasonic technique evaluates the traveling time of ultrasonic waves, longitudinal and transverse, and correlates the observed time and the elastic constants of the materials. Equations relating the speed of the ultrasonic wave to the elastic modulus, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio have led to these elastic constants, with graphics of correlation that showed excellent agreement with the literature available for Alumina. In view of the results and the ease of implementation of this technique, we believe that it may easily be used for dioxide uranium pellets, justifying further studies for that application
Virtual reality at nuclear issues: a review study
Recently, several applications using concepts related to virtual reality has been proposed to help on solving issues of great interest in Nuclear Engineering. Among them are power plant's control rooms simulators; measurement of the estimated radiation dose in a nuclear power plant; use of game engines to create virtual environments to support evacuation planning of buildings and circulation in areas subjected to radiation; development of a man - machine interface based on speech recognition; virtual control tables for simulation of nuclear power plants; evacuation plans support; security teams training and evaluation of physical protection barriers; ergonomic evaluation of control rooms, and other ones. Many of these applications are developed at Instituto de Engenharia Nuclear (IEN), having their results published in form of articles in periodicals and conferences. This article presents a review of some of these studies showing the evolution in the use of these concepts, describing some of its results and showing prospects for future applications that can make use of virtual reality technology
