Determination of the region of sensitivity of a scintillator detector NaI(Tl) (2 X 2)” submerged in water
This paper presents the development of a methodology used to calculate the region of sensitivity of a scintillator detector NaI(Tl) (2 x 2)” submerged in water. The procedure was based in the simulation of a radioactive cloud (radiotracer), emitting anisotropy photons, that approximate of the submerged detector. This detector will be fixed into large industrial mixing. The detector registers the increase of the number of photons, because the solid angle and concentration of radiotracer also increase. Considering the absence of data in the literature, the methodology presented has your adequacy verified indirectly with a simple geometry that consists in a circular detector and one disk source in front of the detector. The theoretical and experimental tests were used for the determination of the region of sensitivity. The Simpson integration Method was used for the solid angle calculations and Monte Carlo Method was used for the validation of the employed geometry. The two methods were compared showing an error between 1.5% and 5%. In the experimental test was employed one disk source of the 137Cs, with radius of 1.2 cm and a collimated and not collimated scintillator detector NaI(Tl) (2 x 2)”. The counts were registered in three different plans enabling to determine the region of sensitivity of the detector
Experimental study of single Taylor bubbles rising in stagnant liquid mixtures inside of vertical tubes
The present work reports an experimental study of single Taylor bubbles rising in vertical tubes lled
with water-glycerin mixtures by using the pulse-echo ultrasonic technique. A 2m long acrylic tube with
inner diameter of 24 mm was used in the experiments. Initially, the tube was sealed at the ends and lled
partially with the liquid mixtures to leave an air pocket of length L0 at the top end. A Taylor bubble
was formed by the inversion of the tube. The rising bubbles were detected by ultrasonic transducers
located at the upper part of the tube. The velocity, the length and the pro le of the bubbles and the
thickness of the liquid lm around them were obtained from the ultrasonic signals processing. The liquid
lm thickness in the vertical tube was also determined by a graphic method that relates the bubble
length Lb with the initial length of the air pocket L0. It was observed that the bubble velocity decreased
with increasing viscosity, while the lm thickness increased. It was shown that the liquid lm thickness
determined by the graphic method tted well the higher viscosities data, but overestimated the lower
viscosities data. Additionally, the results indicated that some correlations developed to estimate the
thickness of liquid lms falling down inside/outside of tubes and down a plane surface could be applied
to estimate the thickness of liquid lms falling around Taylor bubbles in an Inverse Viscosity Number
(Nf ) range different to those considered in the literature
