IntroductionIn 2021 the Programme for Early Detection and Follow-Up of Full-Term and Preterm Children Born Small for Their Gestational Age (SGA) started in two stages, aiming to prevent early and late consequences of this still not taken seriously enough condition.AimThis paper aims to assess the expected and discovered barriers and facilitators in the first stage of the Programme.Materials and MethodsFrom the beginning, each month two coordinators contacted the participating neonatology units and collected data on the number of detected and registered SGA children, as well as on the number of all newborns. While working on the Programme, all barriers were strictly recorded, as well as the steps taken to address them. On the 7th month from the beginning of the Programme and after the first analysis of the results, a survey was conducted among the participating neonatologists, aiming to assess the barriers and facilitators from their point of view. The survey was conducted using the electronic platform Monkey Survey.ResultsThe survey was sent to neonatologists from 21 clinics (27 participants) in the country with a participation rate of 44.4% (n = 12). Initially, 3 main barriers were expected – overload with clinical work, parents’ fear of the invitation, and cultural and social factors. In the course of the work, in addition to these, several others were discovered – the lack of medical specialists, the use of new measuring devices, growth curves and criteria. The Programme began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which proved to be a serious and multifaceted barrier. Facilitating measures were taken – trainings, maintenance of platforms (e-mail and Facebook page), etc. While Programme contributed to its successful implementation. The alarming results obtained were used to intensify contacts with the participating units until the end of the Programme.ConclusionDespite the interest and efforts of some neonatologists, the lack of sufficient staff and the large amount of clinical work made the work of the Programme difficult. In order to have a greater success rate, it is necessary that such type of programmes be mandatory with previously specified resources for their implementation

Artificial intelligence in support of individual assessment of support needs for people with disabilities

    Get PDF
Intelligence aids in choosing which data to analyze and how to do so, ensuring that users have accurate, timely, and easily accessible information when making decisions. The use of intelligent solutions enables businesses to make well-informed decisions, gain competitive advantages, and utilize information to respond quickly and effectively to changes. Why couldn't the same principles be applied to assessing the specific needs of people with disabilities? Modern systems can ensure the availability of relevant data for determining the individual needs of a person with disabilities. Based on these data, accurate analyses can be conducted, providing the opportunity to identify impairments attributable to the disabilities. The report proposes an approach to extracting knowledge based on data collected through the application of the Methodology for Conducting Individual Assessments of Support Needs for People with Disabilities and extracting knowledge from the experts working in the social support agency. Software tools have been proposed to combine the two types of knowledge. This research was funded by the NPI-65/2023 project "Artificial Intelligence to Help People with Disabilities in Ensuring Digital Accessibility in the Higher Education Learning Process"

The article reveals how famous destinations and European cities deal with the challenges of overtourism. The author examines some ‘good practices’ and measures taken by stakeholders in handling mass tourism

White collars and blue collars in tourism industry: could tourism establish equal opportunities?

    Get PDF
The study presents a theoretical reflection of work divisions and the possibilities for equal labor and social environment inclusion in tourism. Through empirical methods the relevant discrepancies are outlined and discussed in relation to the contemporary tourism challenges. The study indicated that there were clear correlations between collar color and visions of the present and the future. The tourism sector will maintain the need for the presence of both working classes. At the same time, it will be the factor that can reduce the differences between them and provide conditions for decent performance according to the capabilities of each of the collars studied

Analyzing the impact of the threshold on machine learning models for credit risk prediction using business intelligence

    Get PDF
Making decisions based on predictions generated from machine learning models requires users to have a clear understanding of the mechanisms and logic behind every prediction. From one side, business users must be convinced in the ability of the models to generate correct predictions. Predictive power, expressed by the different performance measures, is not sufficient for building trust and acceptance of machine learning models. Business users need additional techniques and tools for model interpretation and evaluation of the effects from decisions based on machine learning predictions. In this research paper we propose an approach for analyzing the impact of different thresholds for converting probabilities into predictions for binomial classification machine learning models applicable for credit risk prediction in Peer-to-Peer Lending platforms. We define a set of measures to explore global and local impact on decision-making process and present different scenarios in a Business Intelligence application built in an analytical and business intelligent platform. Based on the presented results we can draw conclusions that when choosing the best model and threshold users should consider a broad set of measures not only for model accuracy, but also should consider misclassification costs, financial results, asset portfolio structure, etc

    Get PDF
The Covid-19 pandemic caused a global economic shock and left its "footprint" on the development of international financial markets. The crisis caused by the pandemic and its impact on international financing is not entirely clear-cut. Along with the negatives, the covid crisis revealed hitherto unsuspected opportunities for a boom in the development of some areas such as high technologies, artificial intelligence and telecommunications. The focus of the paper is on trend analysis of some of the most significant forms of global international financing - syndicated loans, M&A financing, distressed debt, and debt restructuring. The analyses reveal specific reflections of the covid crisis on the total volumes of financing, the sectoral distribution of resources, their intended purpose, regional and industrial profile

Comparative study of ancient shops in the agora of Philippopolis and the imperial Roman thermae of Odessos

    Get PDF
This publication, based on partial surveys on two large scale ancient archaeological objects on the Balkan peninsula, aims to clarify the similarities and the differences of the shops in these large-scale ancient public buildings. Specifically, the shops approached by us were at the southern facade in the forum of Philippopolis and at the northern facade of the Imperial Roman Thermae of Odessos. From the available artefacts (for example, the stone thresholds) conclusions have been drawn about the unpreserved wooden elements. The Roman culture in the lands of contemporary Bulgaria inherited the Hellenic and the local Thracian culture. The two large-scale archaeological sites are the forum of Philippopolis (the contemporary city of Plovdiv), and the Imperial Roman Thermae in Odessos (the contemporary city of Varna). In spite of the wider cultural frame during development of the agora of the Hellenistic Philippopolis into a forum in the Roman period, the function of the public space was not changed, incl. the commercial function and the building structure of the shops, as well as the elements on their entrances, and partially the thresholds. The difference in the shape of the thresholds at both archaeological sites is not caused by the difference of their architectural schemes. The entrances of the shops in the forum are accessible from the inner space of the portico around the antique square called "area". On the contrary, the shops in the Imperial Roman Thermae of Odessos are located on the periphery of the building and are accessible from the streets surrounding the building outside. The main difference is caused by the structures of both buildings. The shops of the agora of Philippopolis lie on the ground, and during the following renovations the new elements are placed over the old ones. The thresholds of the shops of the Roman Thermae are placed over openings for ensuring a ventilation of the large structural gallery, supporting the heavy northern wall of the biggest hall of the thermae. Although focused on a limited topic, this publication gives concrete examples of how the function and construction of large ancient buildings affected their smallest architectural details
