Majority of studies proved that labor mobility and the effect of immigration differs with respect to the business cycle. The aim of the paper is to investigate differences in workers allocation within European countries during recession and expansion period. The presented analysis split European counties on two groups: a) West and South Europe; b) Middle and East Europe (post-communist economies). The specialization of workers is studied concentrating on differences between natives and immigrants with secondary or lower education. For the expansion period was found a sizable relocation of native workers to occupations with more interactive rather than manual content after immigration in West and South European counties. This effect was not found for recession period and for post-communist economies

This empirical study aims at assessing the attitudes, perception and intention of university students towards entrepreneurship and new venture creation with a focus on gender differences in entrepreneurial perceptions and intentions to start new business in the future. Data were collected using a questionnaire-based survey of 350 students at the University of Khartoum in Sudan. The target population was the students in the final year in the University of Khartoum. The stratified sampling technique was used to select the sample size because the population consisted of a number of subgroups that differed in their characteristics. The results showed significant differences between genders in entrepreneurial intentions and its antecedents. Thus, it is important that customized approaches based on gender are needed for developing entrepreneurial intentions among college students

The significance of the Zakah institution to any Islamic economy, it links to financial viability and economic progress has made it a must to modernize the sector to go in line with modern realities. Poor management of Zakah institutions has been described as detrimental to the efforts of these institutions to collect and disburse Zakah effectively. This paper looks at applications of mathematical and quantitative techniques with the view to achieving optimality and efficiency in business of collection and disbursement of Zakah. The mathematical applications tested are the techniques of contribution maximization, programming, and game theory. The potential applications of this field of mathematics to Zakah operations are vast. It calls for concerted efforts and focuses by researchers, policymakers and Islamic scholars on finding the most efficient way of deploying operation research techniques in the management of Zakah institutions. &nbsp

Fearful to be an entrepreneur? A cross-country analysis of factors inhibiting entrepreneurship

This paper is an empirical analysis that has explored personal and socio-economic factors that may inhibit entrepreneurial activity in two diverse countries--the UK and Brazil.  Results show that British and Brazilian males, when they are skilled are less afraid to start a new venture. Results also show that this could be owing to a high status accorded in both the countries to new business start-ups. However, whereas media publicity may add to the fear factor of starting a business in the case of British entrepreneurs; it lessens the fear in the case of Brazilian entrepreneurs. Past failures seem to have no impact on British entrepreneurs, but such failures do seem to add to the fear in Brazilian entrepreneurs. Positive planning to start a new business adds to optimism for British entrepreneurs. Contrary to UK males, younger Brazilian males are less fearful of starting a new business

Supply Chain Flexibility and Financial Performance in the Emergent Market “Morocco case study”.

Today, and especially in the emergent market, the company success is directly linked to its capacity to deal with the highly changing environment, and how much its supply chain is flexible regarding these changes. The paper analyses how the supply chain flexibility impacts the firms’ financial performance in the emergent market, taking Morocco as a study case due to what this country demonstrated as economical resilience during the recent economic crisis and during the “Arab Spring”, by applying a multiple linear regression model. The result suggests that the supply chain flexibility has a significant impact on the firms’ revenue growth, confirming that today the supply chain flexibility is a key element in the company’s business sustainability. Strategic planning impact on innovation and organizational performance in the UAE

This paper aims to explain several concepts Strategic Planning (SP), Innovation (INN), and Organizational Performance (OP) to have a good understanding of the subject. The elements of different SP models may be combined to fit or meet the purpose of adopting SP in any organization. This finding makes identifying and establishing the mission and goal of an organization vital. The researchers have provided a better understanding of the SP theoretical context and helped to address the limited involvement in SP and in optimizing its benefits for OP. Literature has shown that SP has interests that may positively impact OP. However, a clear pathway for SP is needed to achieve the goal of involvement and optimization

Information processing effects of accounting consistency: Evidence from Egypt

Using path analysis, this study investigates the direct and indirect effect of accounting consistency and accounting-based earnings quality proxy on market synchronicity of the Egyptian listed firms. We firstly examine how time-series accounting consistency achieves earnings quality. We find a significant association between time series accounting consistency and lower variation of accruals residuals. We also examine the direct impact of accruals quality on stock returns synchronicity. We find a significant association between lower variation of accruals residuals and higher stock returns synchronicity.  Finally we examine the direct and indirect impact of accounting consistency on market synchronicity. We find that the consistent use of accounting policies can achieve market synchronicity only after achieving earnings quality. Our findings indicate that earnings quality increases the effect of time series accounting consistency on achieving stock returns synchronicity.  &nbsp

    No full text
Objective: The paper aims to examine house price drivers in Dubai, addressing the effect of internal and external factors afecting house prices   Design/methedology/approach: Using the Hedonic price model, the study examined the implications of house size (space), the availability of bathrooms, bedrooms, waterfronts, and pool and cell phone towers within residential area as auxiliary determinant factors to housing price within developed cities by using the Hedonic Modelling. Also, study highlight the effect of the green strategies that been followed by developer on the housing prices.   Findings: The study is expected to reveal results with significant ramifications for researchers, practitioners and policy makers. From a policy perspective, there is an obvious interest in understanding whether the price of housing is affected by different attributes differently along its distribution.   Research limitations/implications: The data used in this study could be limited, and depends on information to be provided by the Dubai Land Department. There is a room for future research to include more data (such as on other house attributes such as house condition, plot numbers and configuration)

Business process simulation and process quality assessment of Czech online bookshop

Accurate estimation of times between arrivals is a key aspect of process simulations and thus efficient decision making. Times between arrivals typically exhibit strong autocorrelation structure which is commonly ignored in the queueing theory. In order to capture the time dependence accurately, we utilize a Generalized Autoregressive Score (GAS) model based on the generalized gamma distribution. Once the process of arrivals is estimated, a process assessment can be performed using process simulations. The results from an empirical study of an online bookshop in Prague, Czech Republic pointed out insufficient resources allocated for the pre-processing and the final stage
