    Get PDF
Mobile penetration and purchasing has proven to be a growing trend in South Africa and one that is fast becoming the most popular and preferred method of accessing and browsing the internet, and making online purchases. This study aimed to identify the depth of mobile penetration in South Africa and more specifically, to a particular online company in South Africa. Company X took the country by storm and grew exponentially within six years. While the growth was welcomed and conventional shopping challenged with the advent of an online store, the company lacked statistical knowledge to guide its growth and no conclusive research was available to assist with its strategy review. This rendered the study necessary as competitors were emerging and the Company X needed to maintain its position in the market. Results from the study show some consumers are still uncomfortable and have security issues with purchasing online. While consumers understand the basic requirements for purchasing online, some are unsure when it comes to recent technological advances including applications and mobile websites, but become less fastidious when it comes to touching a product before making a purchase. The study documented areas for improvement to the Company X’s marketing plan by enhancing its social media strategy. Social media engagement proved to be of great significance in building brand rapport and increasing mobile penetration and purchasing. The main drivers for mobile penetration and purchasing were recognised which include convenience and ease of access to the brand. The study provided valuable information and data for the management team of the company to review, and will greatly serve in assisting with the enhancement of its new mobile marketing strategy

The study examined the relationship between gross margin and some socio-economic variables in some selected date palm markets of Jigawa State Nigeria. The specific objectives were to; determine the influence of some socio-economic variables on gross margin and examine the causations between the socio-economic variables and gross margin. Analytical tool employed for the analysis were multiple regression and gross margin analysis. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were employed in selecting 122 respondents from a sampling frame of 305. The result revealed that the coefficients of age (584.88), selling price (3.97) and quantity sold (3076.22) were positive and statistically significant while cost of transportation (-20.48), marketing experience (-533.81) and cost of the product were negative and statistically significant. The R² value of 0.79 indicates that about 79% of the variation in gross margin was explained by variables included in the model while the remaining 21% is due to error term. The F-statistics of 51.79 indicates that all the variables in the model were jointly and statistically affecting gross margin. There is no autocorrelation as indicated by the F-value of 0.3149 and no heteroscedasticity as indicated by the F-value of 0.4057. The Granger causality test indicates that there is no causation between gross margin and age, household size and marketing experience while there is unidirectional relationship between gross margin and years of formal education, selling price, cost of the produce and quantity sold and the is a bi-directional relationship between gross margin and cost of transportation. It was concluded that there is positive and significant relationship between gross margin and age, selling price and quantity sold while there is statistical and negative relationship between gross margin and cost of transportation, marketing experience and cost of the produce. No causation between gross margin and age, household size and marketing experience, while Years of formal education, selling price cost of  and cost of transportation also causes gross margin

This paper develops the public expenditure in a simple model of economic growth inMalaysia. The model investigates the relationship between the development expenditure (DE), investment (I), trade balance (TB) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The study used the annual data from 1970 to 2014. Simultaneous equation model, in particularly, Two-Stage Least Squares Method (TSLS) applied in this model. The result showed that investment (I) and trade balance (TB) are the most important variables determine the GDP. In determination of the level of investment (I), it appeared that GDP and trade balance (TB) are the important factors. GDP and investment (I) are the important factors determine the amount of trade balance (TB). Moreover, the results contradict to Wagner’s Law of government expenditure generally rises in tandem with income increases. It could be drawn from the results are either the size of government is driven from non-economic factors, or insufficient public expenditure is channeled toward development expenditure. Therefore, the development expenditure is merely not productive or supportive toward long term economic growth inMalaysia.   &nbsp

This article aims to explain through regression data analysis, how some factors such as political, social, cultural and economic factors impact graduates students from China to self-employ. Total of two hundred sixteen (216) graduates students from China express their different opinion through structured questionnaires. Questionnaires are structured according to Linkert scale framework where Items are rated from 1 to 5 (1~5, the higher is the score, the greater its affect). Respondents are pleased to tick "under the corresponding scores" with:  1= Not important 2= Not very important 3=generally important 4=Important 5=Very important. Dependents and independents variables are subjects to cronbatch test of reliability. Results shown that independent variables referred to as political, economic, social and cultural factors have deep impact on opportunity for entrepreneurship in term of employment creation in China. We found that China focuses on economic strengths to influence opportunities for employment creation.  Moreover, the value of Cronbach’s alpha reliability test for data collected among graduate’s students from China is 0,770. Friedman’s chi-square analysis of variance is significant at a p = 0.000. Therefore, variables are significant and consistent for regression analysis

This paper attempt to investigate the relationship between macroeconomic variables and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the samples are divided into 2 groups such as foreign macroeconomic variables and local macroeconomic variables, foreign macroeconomic variables consist of Gold Bullion LBM price and Dow Jones Index, meanwhile local macroeconomic variables consist of Consumer Price Index, Base Lending Rate, Exchange Rate. This study employs data from Jan 2000 to Dec 2013 which contains a monthly data set of 168 observations. There are 3 methodologies used in this study to investigate the relationship, the first test is Unit Root test which used to test the stationary of each variable, the results indicate that all the variables are stationary in first difference, this is important to use stationary variables because if the variables are not stationary, it might lead to spurious regression. The second methodology is Johansen & Juselius Co-integration test to investigate the long run relationship among these variables, the results show that the foreign macroeconomic variables and local macroeconomic variables have long run relationship with KLCI and significant. Next, this study will investigate the short run relationship between macroeconomic variables and KLCI, the results indicate that Gold, BLR and CPI can granger cause KLCI and significant at 1%, 5% significance level respectively
