Selection Listing Decisions: New Product Adoption of Food Retailers
Retail selection policy determines the competitiveness of retailers. This is even truer of the bustling food retail market, thus assortment determination is crucial in grounding profitability. This paper describes an analysis of new product listing decisions to provide a tool-kit for food-retailers and ideas for producers in this domain. The research applies in-depth interviews among the largest and some smaller international and domestic retailers in Hungary to explore the characteristics of their listing decisions. To examine the interviews, content analysis and informed grounded theory methodology are applied. The results include a novel theoretical and practical framework for new product adoption, while two main innovation-related attributes are explored: profit as seen from a global perspective by new arrivals that accept losses on certain products to reach other company targets, and the needs-based perspective which creates more a complex approach to product selection according to customer needs. The paper first presents an analysis of the secondary literature relating to new product listing and conceptualises the related factors. It then investigates food retailers’ new product adoption decisions in Hungary, emphasising the related strategies. Finally, a model is presented to describe the explored preferences
Do Unemployment Benefits and Employment Protection Influence Suicide Mortality? An International Panel Data Analysis
We examine the economic and social determinants of suicide mortality in a panel of 25 OECD countries over the period 1970 – 2011 and explicitly analyze the effects of unemployment and labor market institutions on suicide rates. In line with a large body of literature, our results suggest that unemployment and social factors are important determinants of suicide mortality. The results also indicate that unemployment benefits decrease suicides of males, while relatively strict employment protection regulations increase suicide mortality. These findings indicate that labor market institutions may influence job satisfaction and the quality of life in industrial countries. We suggest taking into account the role of labor market institutions when analyzing the effects of institutional and economic determinants on health
Preliminary Study of International Students in Malaysia on Perceived University and Destination Image towards Intention to Recommend
The mobility of international students worldwide has grown exponentially over the years. The Malaysian government has similarly aimed to bring in higher number of international students due to the significant economical benefits towards the country development. In task of increasing the number of international students in Malaysia, the images of the country and university plays an important role due to the global competitiveness. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants that lead the international students in choosing their place to further their tertiary education in terms of both country (destination) and university. Destination image was found to be associated with affective image which may affects the intention to recommend this destination to others. Additionally, the individual university image also affects the student’s perception in its enrolment. This study is not without limitation whereby the data collection is still limited and it is recommended to include other constructs for model testing and validation.
Production Lot Sizing Problem with the Lead Time
The issue in lot sizing problem is to plan production processes, so that mean the production quantities must be equal to customer demand quantities such that the inventory cost and setup production cost is minimized. In this work, we use the model Multi Level Capacitated Lot Sizing problem with consideration the Lead times, which means that the problem of finding a feasible solution is complex. For this, we propose a new formula in comparison with the classic model. The efficiency of the new formula is demonstrated and infeasible solutions are solved by a heuristic method that's based on Lagrangian relaxation. Computational tests conducted in 1000 instances with up to 40 components and 16 periods have shown that optimal solutions were obtained on average 96.43% of the large instances. For the improvement of the best solution, the heuristic is able to find the efficiency with 97.62% on average. The solution quality is evaluated through initial iterations, the average solution time provided by Lagrangian relaxation is less than 0.43s
MANAGEMENT OF ARCHIVES IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES OF KENYA, KISII UNIVERSITY
Archives play a big and crucial role in housing records of enduring value, those that deserves permanent preservation. Archives has gained much prominence in recent years and is said to aid planning, ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources, promote transparency, rule of law and good governance hence curbing against vices like corruption, bribery and nepotism. This study sought to find out if there is a policy governing archives in the Kisii university, to establish the procedures involved in the management of archives in the university, to establish the procedures involved in the management of archives in the university, to determine the importance of archives in the Kisii University and lastly to find out the challenges facing the management of archives in the university. The study employed a descriptive survey design. The target population included staffs of the registry department. Primary data was collected though administration of structured questionnaires with all members of the staff selected as respondents in a census method of data collection basis. The primary data collection instruments were face to face interviews and use of questionnaires. Qualitative approach will be used to present, analyze and interpret the data. The study findings will help to improve archives management practice in order to align it to the smooth running of University functions
Organizational Trust and Employee Performance in Selected Hotels in Edo State of Nigeria
The seeming lack of trust between employees and their colleagues prompted this study. The broad objective of the study was to examine the extent of relationship that exists between organizational trust and employee performance in selected hotels in Edo State. The study adopted a Survey Research Design. The population of the study was 326 and the sample size was 180 arrived at using Taro Yamane’s Statistical formula. Data was collected through questionnaire and analysed with the aid of Multiple Regression Analysis while the hypotheses was tested using Pearson’s Table of Test of Significance. From the result of the analysis, it revealed that interpersonal trust and job satisfaction has a statistically significant positive relationship in selected hotels in Edo State that 97% change in job satisfaction was accounted for by changes in interpersonal trust. Following this result, it was concluded that trust is a very important issue in the industry. It was therefore recommended that the hotels studied should endeavour to employ competent hands to handle the affairs of the organization as this will engender healthy competition among the employees and that they should also encourage honesty and make the employees work in unity as this will make the jobs of the employees more satisfying
Science and Technology Service Industry Helps Replace Old Growth Drivers with New Ones in Jinan
Technology is a powerful force supporting economic development. Jinan strives to build an important national regional technological innovation center and realizes the transformation of old growth drivers with new ones of economic development. It is necessary to build an efficient urban technology innovation service system, vigorously develop the science and technology service industry, open up the channel between science and technology and economic and social development and eliminate the ‘island phenomenon’ in technological innovation. We must vigorously promote the construction of high-tech zones, agglomerate innovation elements, vigorously develop technology transfer and science and technology financial service industries, provide technical, capital, and policy support for the development of science and technology-based enterprises, and foster new momentum for economic development
AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PERCEPTION OF CRICKETING PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS INTO THE QUOTA POLICY ON CRICKET
South Africa’s racially divided past has led to the institution of various remedial measures across all segments of life, whereby the imbalances of the past are being addressed. Of all the remedial measures employed, the quota policy in sport which is an extension of affirmative action, has been a source of debate and contention. The cricket authorities have struggled to achieve transformation targets but should not shoulder the burden of this under-achievement alone. Government has not provided the necessary infrastructure and facilities at schools to facilitate the development and transformation of cricket. This brings into question the effectiveness of the management and administration of the quota policy in cricket. The results of the quantitative study have shown that the respondents to the survey are discontented with the effectiveness of the management and administration of the quota policy. Furthermore, the respondents believed that the quota policy was unnecessary and responsible for players leaving the country. The authors recommend that the provision of facilities and infrastructure at schools become a high priority in order to stimulate participation in cricket and facilitate the development of cricketers at grassroots level. Furthermore, a synergistic relationship between cricket federations and schools must be fostered
Enterprise Risk Management Adoption And Significant Positive Impact On Company Value. Case Study Of Sic Insurance Company Ghana ( Inferential Statistics And Hypothesis Testing).
This paper begins with academic empirical findings on current state of maturity with ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) as evidenced by research survey at SIC Company Ghana. The study of ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) took a qualitative research strategic approach, the study analysis of non-numerical qualitative data is expressed through words that is used to find answers to the stated hypothesis , which is applicable to this study. The research data collected was based on a single case study considering that the annual reports only indicated whether the company used COSO’s framework and ERM practices, a further investigation had to be made to ensure the suitability of the potential case company. State Insurance Corporation (SIC) Ghana was contacted considering that the company seemed to be using the COSO framework as well as having a strategic thinking regarding risk. The aim of the study was to investigate the usage of ERM (which should permeate the organization. To answer the research question some hypotheses have been formulated. These hypotheses are derived from findings of earlier research and literature. It is reasonable that firms with an ERM system may decide to increase leverage as a result of their improved risk appreciation . Another industrial sector with stronger ERM requirements due to regulatory restrictions, e.g. as a consequence of the downfall of Enron, is the energy industry. On the other hand, firms with a higher number of operating segments are faced with a higher risk complexity and therefore an increasing willingness to implement ERM. To answer H1 to H5, an analysis of the ERM implementation level needs to be performed. Second, the ERM implementation levels and performance of the insurance company needs to be coupled and compared to the other insurance companies in the sample. There are two research objectives which will be focused on 1) The grounded theory method which uses two basic principles: (a) questioning rather than measuring, and (b) generating hypotheses using theoretical coding and 2) the value impact of ERM systems, different empirical methods along with different time periods (a one-year and a multi-period sample), thereby following the literature. The hypothesize that the following firm characteristics have an impact on the likelihood of an ERM implementation.
The flip side of the Cournot - Nash competition
The objective of this paper is to analyze the consequences of including environment of players in the Cournot-Nash competition. A two-persons non-cooperative game is considered. The environment is expressed interms of others". The function of the environment is to maintain its equilibrium. The equilibrium point of the environment is upgraded if the strategies of one or both players have a favorable impact on the environment. The equilibrium stays at its previous level otherwise. The equilibrium point of the environment is called an environmental attractor. The environmental attractor aects the strategies of the players which in turn dene the reaction functions and the pay-o functions. It is shown that in the presence of an environmental attractor, players can not reach a Nash point. In fact the reaction functions of the players act as orbits around the environmental attractor. Thus each player has a nite but compact number of strategies compatible with the environment available to them. As long as the equilibrium of the environment is maintained, any of the orbits will be acceptable choices for the players. An environmental model of a two-persons competition game is given, and the consequences are studied
