Graph-based Semantic Relatedness for Named Entity Disambiguation
Natural Language is a mean to express and discuss about concepts, objects, events, i.e. it carries semantic contents. The SemanticWeb aims at tightly coupling contents with their precise meanings. One of the ultimate roles of Natural Language Processing techniques is identifying the meaning of the text, providing effective ways to make a proper linkage between textual references and real world objects. This work adresses the problem of giving a sense to proper names in a text, that is automatically associating words representing Named Entities with their identities. The proposed methodology for Named Entity Disambiguation is based on Semantic Relatedness Scores obtained with a graph based model overWikipedia.We show that, without building a Bag of Words representation of text, but only considering named entities within the text, the proposed paradigm achieves results competitive with the state of the art on a news story dataset
Share.TEC Repository System
The Share.TEC system has the main goal to establish a highly visible and functional portal with advanced brokerage services that will provide personalised access to a wide-range of Teacher Education (TE) content. The heart of the Share.TEC system is the central repository, storing metadata about TE resources. In this paper we describe the design of the digital Share.TEC repository, providing the more flexible and powerful ways for representing Common Metadata Model (CMM) metadata records and objects from the Teacher Education Ontology (TEO), and ensuring the most efficient and comprehensive search and reasoning abilities, as the key factors for the success of the Share.TEC project. We describe the data models for representing CMM and TEO, as well as the processes ensuring their correct coexistence

Today’s digital learning repositories are focused on the process of sharing materials created elsewhere. We propose a new type of digital learning repository which is focused on on-line collaboration. This new type of repository will foster an active community which creates and shares resources. It will use a mix of existing and new technologies to encourage users to communicate, contribute, and collaborate. It will be focused on the needs of instructors and be tolerant of differences of opinion
Towards the Development of a Research Methodology for Studying the Nature of Value Co-Creation in Internet Driven Businesses
Value co-creation, is an emerging innovation, marketing and business paradigm describing how customers and users are seen as active participants in the design of personalized products, services and experiences (Prahalad & Ramaswamy, 2004; Payne, Storbacka, & Frow, 2008). Often this participation is organised via the Internet to enable the opportunity for customers to integrate their knowledge, experience and skills into existing, modified or entirely new market offerings reflecting their personal preferences, needs and contexts (Sawhney, Gianmario & Prandelli, 2005). There is a growing body of literature dedicated to the discussion of value co-creation frameworks, mechanisms and processes, however, these typically focus on the study, discussion and analysis of a small number of cases using deep, ethnographic description of their practices aiming at conceptualization and categorization of the different types of interactions between end users, the firm and the value network. Although very useful, such an approach misses the advantages of an empirically driven quantitative approach that would be able to benefit from larger size samples of firms and that could be more appropriate for theory building through the development and testing of hypotheses
Wireless Services in Faculty Information System
The ongoing process of implementation of the information system of the Faculty of Science in Novi Sad has entered a new phase in which wireless services for mobile devices have been designed and implemented. In this paper we briefly sketch the architecture of the information system and describe how wireless mobile services are attached to it. We give the most important pointers on choice of technologies and discuss the most interesting implementation considerations. Key challenges and lessons learned in the design and implementation processes are outlined in the text
Impact of Ngrams-based indexing on XML retrieval
We present in this paper a statistical approach of term clustering. This approach is based on a statistical analysis of NGrams shared by a pair of terms and is inspired from the t f × idf criterion commonly used in information retrieval. Being statistical, the approach is completely independent from the lexical and grammatical characteristics of the language in which documents to be indexed are written. Classical indexing is often based on stemming, which consists of transforming a term into its radical. This allows to provide large issues for customized information access. As for us, we consider that this can be made by building term clusters and perform information retrieval based on this concept. This approach is used for XML retrieval, therefore some experiments have been undertaken into a dataset provided by INEX to show its impact compared to Porter stemming method
On the Knowledge Management Aspects of Digital Preservation
The current digital preservation (DP) landscape is dominated by the ISO standard 14721:2003 (OAIS). This poster will present several approaches to digital preservation (policy-centric, functional, life-cycle management, constructivist, business-oriented, operational research, as well as highly specialised) and will seek to outline the connection between digital preservation and knowledge management. It will look especially into the place of the OAIS concept of “knowledge base” within the digital preservation system
Sharing Digital Resources in Teacher Education: an Ontology-based Approach
Teacher Education (TE) is a dynamic, lifelong process that needs to fully embrace innovation and assume a broader European perspective. The ECfunded Share.TEC project aims to provide enhanced, culturally-aware access to TE-related resources across Europe by means of a federated resource brokerage system whose semantic core is the proposed Teacher Education Ontology (TEO). This paper describes the rationale for an ontology-driven approach, gives an overview of TEO’s multi-layered structure for addressing multicultural and multilinguistic issues, and presents some aspects of the TEO implementation that allow for language-independent conceptualization and multidimensional hierarchal searching and filtering Other TEO features are also discussed, including the support for dynamically generated user interface and system stability against ontology modifications
Methodology for Seamless Supply Chain Planning
Today, enterprises are typically in a constant process of acquiring and updating its information technologies, however typically without an overall view of the global inter and intra enterprise’s system integration. Researchers have been proposing methodologies and platforms to assist such integration of applications and data. However, implementing new technologies in organizations is a difficult task, since its quality needs for architectures development are more exigent and critical than ever, due to the systems complexity, dimension and to the interoperability requirements to interact with third party applications and infrastructures. This paper proposes a methodology for seamless Supply Chain Planning (SCP), by using a domain reference ontology, data model representation standards, software components evaluation and interoperability checking processes. The methodology VALTE is used to assure that enterprises use tools for SCP compliant to semantics, represented in a common reference ontology, created by the MENTOR methodology. These two horizontal methodologies are vertically supported by interoperability checking processes, which assure an interoperable supply chain planning system

technologies, in particular lexicographic activities. Based on our participation in the EC international
project MULTEXT-East, we present some aspects of language resource compatibility: unification and
standardisation. We underline the importance of the developed harmonised lexical (morphosyntactic)
specifications and descriptions of language data in machine-readable form in a common standard
encoding format – Corpus Encoding Standard format – for six Central and East European (CEE)
languages, as well as the language-independence of the tools employed.The study and preparation of these results have received funding from the EC's Seventh Framework Programme
