Disinformation is a major threat in the digital age, affecting politics, society, and the economy. Unlike misinformation, which is unintentional, disinformation is deliberately created to manipulate public opinion, destabilize governments, and influence elections. The rise of social media has amplified its impact, making false information spread rapidly without verification. Historically, disinformation has been used for political gain, from the forged Donation of Constantine to wartime propaganda and modern deepfake technology. Today, digital platforms, bots, and microtargeting strategies have transformed disinformation into a powerful tool for influencing public perception. A striking example is the case of Călin Georgescu in Romania. A nationalist and Eurosceptic politician, C. Georgescu gained popularity through social media, particularly TikTok, with anti-establishment rhetoric. However, investigations revealed coordinated disinformation campaigns, likely supported by Russia, to manipulate public opinion and destabilize Romania’s political landscape. These efforts included deepfake videos discrediting opponents, fake news articles, manipulated social media trends, and cyberattacks targeting independent media. As a result, Romania’s Constitutional Court annulled the first round of presidential elections, highlighting the dangers of digital interference in democracy. The European Commission launched an inquiry into TikTok for potentially violating the Digital Services Act by allowing manipulated content to spread. This case underscores the urgent need for stricter regulations on digital platforms, better fact-checking tools, and media literacy programs to counteract disinformation. A coordinated effort between governments, tech companies, and civil society is essential to protect democracy and ensure the integrity of public discourse.
Ten polityk o poglądach nacjonalistycznych i eurosceptycznych zyskał popularność dzięki mediom społecznościowym, w szczególności platformy TikTok, promując retorykę antysystemową. Dochodzenia wykazały jednak istnienie skoordynowanych kampanii dezinformacyjnych, prawdopodobnie wspieranych przez Federację Rosyjską, mających na celu manipulowanie opinią publiczną i destabilizację rumuńskiej sceny politycznej. Działania te obejmowały m.in. tworzenie materiałów deepfake dyskredytujących przeciwników, publikację fałszywych artykułów informacyjnych, manipulację trendami w mediach społecznościowych oraz cyberataki wymierzone w niezależne media. W rezultacie rumuński Trybunał Konstytucyjny unieważnił pierwszą turę wyborów prezydenckich, podkreślając niebezpieczeństwa związane z cyfrową ingerencją w demokrację. Komisja Europejska wszczęła dochodzenie w sprawie TikToka za potencjalne naruszenie ustawy o usługach cyfrowych poprzez umożliwienie rozprzestrzeniania zmanipulowanych treści. Sprawa ta podkreśla pilną potrzebę wprowadzenia bardziej rygorystycznych przepisów dotyczących platform cyfrowych, lepszych narzędzi do sprawdzania faktów i programów edukacji medialnej w celu przeciwdziałania dezinformacji. Skoordynowany wysiłek rządów, firm technologicznych i społeczeństwa obywatelskiego jest niezbędny do ochrony demokracji i zapewnienia integralności dyskursu publicznego
Moral Expectations as Reasons for Action
W trzeciej ukazano stanowisko, zgodnie z którym oczekiwania moralne mogą stanowić odrębną rację skłaniającą do działania, o ile towarzyszy im wynikająca z nich bezradność.
The article focuses on the ethical aspects of creating and fulfilling moral expectations regarding actions that are not duties. The author considers whether moral judgments concerning such actions can take the form of moral rules, or if such judgements can only be particular and context-dependent. The first part of the text presents key elements of major theories about the nature of expectations. The second part discusses generalist and particularist arguments advanced in the debate over the specificity of reasons for fulfilling moral expectations. The third part outlines the position that moral expectations can constitute a distinct reason to act, provided they are accompanied by helplessness resulting from these expectations
Anti-Hussite Sermon from the Manuscript of the University Library in Wrocław I F 282
Przedmiotem artykułu jest niedokończone kazanie antyhusyckie z przełomu lat 60. i 70. XV wieku ze zbiorów Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej we Wrocławiu. Rękopis I F 282 pierwotnie należał do biblioteki kanoników regularnych św. Analizie tekstu towarzyszy edycja kazania.
The subject of this article is an unfinished anti-Hussite sermon from the late 1560s and early 1570s from the collection of the University Library in Wrocław. The manuscript I F 282 originally belonged to the library of the Canons Regular of St Augustine in Żagań, a congregation heavily involved in the fight against the Hussite heresy. Although the importance of preaching to the anti-Hussite efforts in Silesia has been noted in the literature on the subject, anti-Hussite sermons have not yet been analysed and, moreover, few have been identified so far. The article is an attempt to fill an existing gap in the state of research. The text analysis is accompanied by an edition of the sermon.Publikacja finansowana przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki w ramach konkursu Weave-UNISONO, nr projektu 2021/03/Y/HS3/00052: Pagans and Christians. Harm and Mercy: An Analysis of the Characters from the Parable of the Good Samaritan
This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the characters in the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30 –37). Drawing on extensive scholarly research, the author examines the traits of each character, the historical context, and interpersonal dynamics. The analysis extends beyond the parable’s characters to include participants in the theological dialogue (Jesus and the lawyer) and their audience. A careful examination of all characters reveals their interconnections. While the pair of religious elite travelers (the priest and the Levite) seems obvious, the partnership between the Samaritan and the innkeeper in aiding the victim is less apparent. Due to the sparse depiction of individual character traits by the third Evangelist, the historical background of the narrative serves as a crucial element in the characterisation process. The analysis is further enriched by considering all narrative elements and their interrelations, resulting in a nuanced portrayal of the characters
Illustrating Antiquity. On Illustrations to Pharaoh by Bolesław Prus and Quo vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz
Pełne akcji, wielowymiarowe i ambitne w przesłaniach, powieści szybko znalazły uznanie czytelników i zainteresowanie artystów, którzy pragnęli zilustrować obie fabuły zgodnie z panującymi ówcześnie w malarstwie i grafice trendami i stylami. W artykule omówiono prace Jana Styki oraz Piotra Stachiewicza ilustrujące dzieło H. Sienkiewicza oraz prace Jana Holewińskiego, Edwarda Okunia i Jana Marcina Szancera do dzieła B. Prusa. Wspomniano także o niedawno zidentyfikowanych w źródłach archiwalnych niedokończonych ilustracjach do Faraona autorstwa Henryka Siemiradzkiego.
In the last years of the 19th century, two great Polish novels were published, first in the press, then in book editions, the plot of which was set in ancient times – Quo vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz and Pharaoh by Bolesław Prus. Both works of the positivist writers were based on a thorough knowledge of Roman and Egyptian antiquity. Fast-paced, multifaceted and ambitious in their messages, the novels quickly found the appreciation of readers and the interest of artists who wanted to illustrate both plots in accordance with the prevailing trends and styles in painting and graphic art at the time. The article discusses the works of Jan Styka and Piotr Stachiewicz illustrating the work of H. Sienkiewicz, as well as the illustrations of Jan Holewiński, Edward Okuń and Jan Marcin Szancer for the work of B. Prus. Another mentioned item was recently identified in archival sources unfinished illustrations to Pharaoh by Henryk Siemiradzki.Artykuł powstał w ramach Narodowego Programu Rozwoju Humanistyki „Korpus dzieł malarskich Henryka Siemiradzkiego”. Journey from Exclusion to Inclusion: A Literary Analysis of "The Letter to Diognetus", Chapters 1‑10
The second-century Epistle to Diognetus has largely been obscured in Christian history, discovered only in 1436 without any prior written records. The origins, authorship, and intended audience of this work remain uncertain. This article examines the text of Diognetus from a literary perspective, analysing its content, structure, and language to discern its character, intended audience and purpose. The analysis begins with an exploration of some rhetorical questions in the work’s opening paragraph and their thematic development throughout the text. The article further examines how the use of personal pronouns and person-inflected verb forms blurs social boundaries, facilitating identity shifts and literary movement toward conversion. The final discussion compares the literary dynamic of Diognetus to an ancient conversion story, drawing attention to similarities in how these works succeed, through negotiation of identities, with transferring a literary addressee/protagonist from a state of exclusion to one of inclusion into a new community
