    No full text
Biskup Paweł Kubicki (1871–1944) znany jest przede wszystkim dzięki swej działalności pisarskiej i duszpasterskiej. W czasie swej posługi kapłańskiej i biskupiej wygłaszał wiele kazań. Augustyna. Bishop Pawel Kubicki (1871-1944) is best known for his writing as well as for his pastoral activities. During his priestly and episcopal ministry, he preached many sermons. Some of them have been printed. This article aims to identify and discuss references to the Church Fathers and ecclesiastical writers of the patristic period in his preaching activity. These references appear in his main preaching work, which is the collection Żywe słowo na ambonie i poza amboną. This publication is therefore the main source of the present study. It contains a selection of the sermons he preached during almost his entire life, and was published seven years before the author's death. Out of up to three volumes planned by him, only the first volume was published. Bishop P. Kubicki referred most often to the ideas of St Augustine, as well as to the events in his life

The National Museum in Kraków holds a collection of albums containing a series of initials cut from 16th-century Italian illuminated manuscripts from the papal book collection in the sacristy of the Sistine Chapel. The French Revolution and Napoleonic campaigns caused a massive dispersal of aristocratic collections and monastic book collections, which had far-reaching effects on the antiquarian market in the 19th century. During the Napoleonic invasion of Rome in 1798, the treasures of the Vatican were looted, along with the contents of the sacristy of the Sistine Chapel, which contained a priceless book collection amassed over the centuries by successive popes and church dignitaries. The largest group of Vatican manuscripts came into the possession of Rev. Luigi Celotti (1759–1843), a connoisseur and art dealer employed by the Barbarigo family in Venice. On 26 May 1825, the London’s Christie’s held the first ever auction devoted entirely to cuttings and single sheets cut from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts. On display were miniatures, fragments of borders, initials and single pages cut from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, which were then spread among libraries and private collections around the world. The purpose of this article is to provide an art-historical analysis of hitherto unknown albums in the collection of the National Museum in Kraków in the context of 19th-century collecting practices

Shaping Love Through Contemplation According to St. Titus Brandsma OCarm (1881–1942)

The article is a theological-spiritual analysis of the teaching of St. Titus Brandsma (Anno Sjoerd Brandsma), a Dutch professor and martyr from Dachau, who lived in the years 1881–1942. This study seeks to show that in the Carmelite’s opinion, the contemplation (active and passive) of transcendent Love serves man in the formation of human love—for God, for people and for all creatures. In this way, mysticism does not alienate man, but introduces him to concrete reality, inspiring him to deep commitment and taking responsibility for himself and others. This is of particular importance in the ongoing spiritual battle between good and evil—individual and social. Seeing the dangers of the anti-human ideology of Nazism, Fr. Titus, seeing the dangers of the anti-human ideology of Nazism, tried to show contemplation as a way to return to the Truth and as a chance to save the human family. The analysis carried out in this study, focusing more on the substantive aspect of the writings and less on their chronology, makes it possible to discover the logic, coherence, and originality of Brandsma’s thought

The Oldest Place of Veneration of St. Agnes in the Light of the "Liber Pontificalis"

Ambrożego i Prudencjusza). The purpose of this article is to show the history of the oldest place of veneration of St. Agnes, in light of the accounts contained in the Liber Pontificalis. Firstly, the depiction of St. Agnes from ancient sources, particularly the writings of St. Ambrose and Prudentius, is examined. A thorough analysis and critical assessment of these accounts led to the conclusion that little is known about her life prior to her martyrdom. However, the sources unanimously affirm her status as a virgin and martyr, emphasizing her youth at the time of her death. Beyond this, details about St. Agnes remain uncertain. Subsequently, the accounts of St. Agnes’s veneration in Rome, as recorded in the biographies of four popes, were meticulously analyzed and critically evaluated: Sylvester I (314-335), Liberius (352-366), Innocent I (401-417), and Symmachus (498-514). This analysis and critique of the narratives yielded significant insights. While the information regarding the location of St. Agnes’s worship provided by the compiler of the Liber Pontificalis is largely inaccurate, it does hint at certain themes present in the transmission: the association of St. Agnes with Constantina, a member of the imperial family, who bestowed imperial patronage upon the entire complex of St. Agnes (comprising the basilica and mausoleum) and contributed to the growth of her cult; the profound importance of St. Agnes’s cult to the popes, who, in their efforts to foster its development, sought to exert influence over the shrine of St. Agnes (as seen in the actions of Innocent I) and personally participated in festivities held in her honor (as evidenced by the involvement of Gregory the Great)

Judicial Responses to AI-Generated Works: A Comparative Case Law Analysis on Copyright

    No full text
As artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly contributes to the creation of original content, legal systems are under pressure to determine whether and how such outputs can be protected by copyright. While much of the academic debate focuses on future legislative reforms, courts and existing legal frameworks are already being tested by real disputes. This paper examines how different jurisdictions, namely, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and China, approach the copyright protection of AI-generated works, both at the level of underlying legal doctrine and through judicial interpretation. The first part of the paper outlines the key principles of copyright law in each system, including definitions of authorship, standards of originality, and relevant exceptions or limitations that may apply to AI training and output. The second part shifts to case law, examining how courts have applied or challenged these principles when addressing AI-generated work. In doing so, the paper focuses on three core legal issues: whether AI-generated works can meet originality thresholds, how authorship and ownership are assigned, and how the expression–idea dichotomy is interpreted in this context. It is within this judicial context that the present study situates its analysis, using case law as the primary lens to examine how legal systems are grappling with the growing presence of AI in creative processes. By comparing these legal systems and judicial approaches, the paper demonstrates that while human authorship remains a consistent requirement, some courts have begun to accommodate more nuanced forms of human–machine collaboration. Ultimately, the study argues that in the absence of clear legislative reform, courts are actively shaping the emerging boundaries of copyright in the age of generative AI. In addition, this paper contributes to the growing literature on AI and copyright by providing a doctrinal analysis grounded in case law, revealing not only how courts are applying traditional concepts to new technologies, but also where doctrinal tensions are beginning to emerge

An attempt to synthesize information on the anticancer activity and safety of using plant materials containing amygdalin

    No full text
The old and new scientific literature contains many divergent information on the anticancer effects of amygdalin found in plant raw materials and the safety of consuming these materials, which is significantly limited due to the risk of poisoning with plant cyanides resulting from the metabolism of amygdalin. A literature review was conducted to outline the main problems in this area. Amygdalin is converted into hydrogen cyanide in cancer cells, thanks to which its effects are observed against cancers of the oral cavity, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, lung, kidney, bladder, cervix, breast, prostate, Ehrlich carcinoma with ascites, leukemia, skin cancer, glioma of the brain and lymphosarcoma. Promising results of studies on the anticancer effects of amygdalin make it reasonable to avoid situations conducive to poisoning. The safety of use seems to depend to a large extent not only on the amount of raw materials containing amygdalin (in terms of human body weight) but also on the circumstances of consuming plants containing it (including food containing probiotics and unfavorable influence of vitamin C) and intestinal bacteria. Multifaceted caution should be exercised in consuming parts of plants containing amygdalin

Time Intervals in 1 En. 72:8–32

1 En. 72:8–32 contains the monthly scheme of the change in the length of the day and night within the schematic year of 364 days. The scheme uses two basic units to measure the time difference in the length of the nychthemeron between solstices: one ‘part’ and the fraction 1/9. Each nychthemeron is divided into 18 ‘parts’, and the regular factor of monthly variation is one ‘part’. Modern scholarship has failed to explain the meaning and function of the fraction 1/9 and the origin of the division of the nychthemeron into 18 ‘parts’. The first part of this study explains the meaning of the fraction 1/9 in the monthly computus and its relationship to one ‘part’. The second explores the division of the nychthemeron into 18 ‘parts’ compared to Table C, which is part of Tablet XIV of the Babylonian astrological compendium Enūma Anu Enlil
