CHURU-KOHO POTTERY OF LAM DONG PROVINCE IN RELATION TO CHAM POTTERY

    Get PDF
This article examines Churu-Koho pottery in relation to Cham pottery in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. Research shows that Churu-Koho pottery (Lam Dong Province) is related to Cham pottery in Bau Truc (Ninh Thuan Province) and Binh Duc (Binh Thuan Province) and to the pottery of the Sa Huynh culture (Quang Ngai Province), which dates back to 3,000 BP. They are similar in name, visual arts, type, and pottery firing method. These types of pottery have been common in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands for a long time. However, they have moderately fallen in number, especially Churu-Koho pottery. Therefore, preserving and promoting this heritage in economic, cultural, social, and tourism development is critical. We use the research methods of ethnology and anthropology, including fieldwork, participant observation, interviews, and comparison, combined with the theories of historical particularism of Franz Boas, cultural ecology of Julian Steward, and cultural acculturation of American anthropologists to analyze and explain the similarities and differences among the types of pottery

BINARY HARD-SPHERE COLLOID-DROPLET MIXTURES WITH THE PYRITE-TYPE STRUCTURE

    No full text
We investigate the assembly of a binary mixture of patchy colloids and droplets into crystal structures by use of the space-filling principle and Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations. Here, colloids with six patches in an octahedral symmetry attract droplets, whereas the colloid-colloid and droplet-droplet pairwise interactions are purely hard-core repulsions. Within parameter space regions that allow for stable binary crystals, we find the formation of different structure types, which are colloidal analogs of the NaCl phase and pyrite (FeS2) phase, as a function of the droplet-to-colloid sphere diameter ratio. This finding is consistent with theoretical predictions. Notably, while the NaCl structure type is a commonly known structure of hard-sphere colloids and nanoparticles, the formation of the FeS2 structure type from colloidal dispersion has not been explored. Our approach suggests a potential route to obtain colloidal crystals with more complex structures

This study evaluates the potential for agritourism development in Binh Dinh Province, Central Vietnam. The analytical hierarchical process is used to determine the weights of four factors with 25 measurement criteria to assess agritourism potential. The research results show that Binh Dinh Province has great agritourism potential based on four evaluation factors, including (1) local agricultural tourism resources, (2) the trend for agritourism development and the agritourism market, (3) the local community’s willingness, and (4) the supporting activities of the local government. In particular, the local agricultural tourism resources factor received the highest score, followed by the local community’s willingness and the supporting activities of the local government. The trend for agritourism development and the agritourism market was rated the lowest.

Camellia sinensis var. madoensis is described and illustrated as a new variety of Camellia sinensis (section Thea, Theaceae) from Xuan Loc Commune, Song Cau District, Phu Yen Province. The new variety is easily distinguishable from C. sinensis var. sinensis by style free ½ to the base. The ITS sequence of this variety is also different from that of Camellia sinensis and its other varieties, while the matK gene sequences are nearly identical among Camellia taxa.

DARK SOIL PITS AND GRAVES IN VOLCANIC CAVE C6.1, KRONG NO, DAK NONG PROVINCE: DOCUMENTATION AND DISCUSSION

    Get PDF
Dark soil pits and graves are critical documents discovered in volcanic cave C6.1. As a result of the investigation and excavation of cave C6.1 conducted in 2017, 2018, and 2019, we have discovered vestiges of nine dark soil pits and seven relatively intact graves, together with teeth and other human remains scattered in the cultural layer. This is an important source of information on the racial composition of the prehistoric inhabitants of the Central Highlands during the Neolithic period, as well as the paleoenvironment, environmental adaptations, and flora and fauna that prehistoric inhabitants exploited for their livelihoods. This article introduces documents and reconstructs the socioeconomic picture of the prehistoric inhabitants of cave C6.1. It also contributes scientific documents for the general conservation and promotion of heritage to develop sustainable cultural tourism in Dak Nong Province

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AUTHENTICITY AND FIRM PERFORMANCE IN AN EMERGING MARKET

    Get PDF
This study uses quantitative methods to investigate the importance of corporate social responsibility authenticity (CSRA) on the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It investigates the interceding roles of organizational identification (OID) and corporate reputation (CRE) between CSRA and firm performance (FPE). The data, which were questionnaire responses from 548 customers, employees, and shareholders of SMEs, were analyzed using SmartPLS version 3.3.2. Significant positive correlations were found between the authenticity of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and three key factors: firm performance, organizational identification, and corporate reputation. This study contributes to existing knowledge by exploring the mediating roles of OID and CRE in the relationship between CSRA and FPE. To better understand how CSR affects OID, CRE, and eventually FPE, this study integrates the perceptions of internal and external stakeholders on the degree to which CSR is seen as authentic. This study particularly adds to the body of CSR literature in the context of increasing skepticism of stakeholders about CSR authenticity. Grounded in stakeholder behaviors, social identity, and social exchange theories, this study extends these theories by operationalizing a novel empirical framework in a new setting. Furthermore, the implications of this study extend to society’s current concerns about “greenwashing” or “corporate hypocrisy.

HOABINHIAN IN VIETNAM AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES FROM 20,000 TO 7,000 YEARS BP

    Get PDF
This article studies the basic economic activities of Hoa Binh cultural inhabitants in the period of 20,000 to 7,000 years BP, including tool making, hunting, gathering, and primitive agriculture. The research results have identified a number of key economic characteristics of Hoa Binh cultural residents and evaluated the effectiveness of human methods of finding and gathering food under the fluctuations of the natural environment during the late Pleistocene to early Holocene in northern Vietnam. Little evidence directly related to cultivation and animal husbandry has been found at Hoa Binh cultural sites, so the issue of Hoa Binh agriculture is still a working hypothesis that needs to be studied further

    Get PDF
Sansevieria is a genus consisting of about 60 species natively distributed in tropical and subtropical areas. Many Sansevieria species are used for ornamental purposes or in traditional medicine to treat human diseases. Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Laurentii,’ commonly known as snake plant, is an evergreen perennial plant used in traditional medicine. The phytochemical investigation of the roots of S. trifasciata ‘Laurentii’ resulted in the isolation and structural characterization of two previously reported saponins: (24S,25R)-1b-[(β-D-fucopyranosyl)oxy]-3b-hydroxyspirost-5-en-24-yl β-D-glucopyranoside (1) and 26-[(β-D-glucopyranosyl)oxy]-3β,22α-dihydroxyfurosta-5,25(27)-dien-1β-yl-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2) by analysis of their 1D and 2D NMR spectra and HR-ESI-MS, together with the comparison to data published in the literature
