Designing MSA\u27s Al Future: Al Center Research Intern
The IMSA Al Center, currently located in A148, is a key initiative of the IMSA Vision 2033 themes, aiming to educate and inspire the IMSA community about Artificial Intelligence\u27s potential in education. \u27MSA\u27s Al Center empowers students to explore Al through hands-on technology engagement and comprehensive resources. This year, the Al Center has worked with staff to develop several Al Center-sponsored intersessions including an Al Bytes for All Pilot Cohort, Al Lab Cohorts, an Al Prompt Engineering Cohort, and Al in Culture and Society. Al development and application courses designed by CS Faculty are offered in the course catalog and will begin to run next year. The Al Center Research lane aims to encourage student research that focuses on solving problems using Al to advance the human condition. Over the course of the internship, the Center provided opportunities for students to get involved with Al such as the Al Student Mentorship Group and the Al Student Innovation Cohort. As a part of the internship, a facial recognition model was developed to further explore Al applications and implications for the IMSA community
Enhancing patient Education and Surgical Planning through 3D Visualization Of Craniofacial Defects
Craniofacial and maxillofacial defects are complex in patient comprehension and surgical repair. This project utilizes advanced visualization software to create precise 3D models of craniofacial abnormalities, enhancing patient education and preoperative planning. By translating the data Of medical images into digital, interactive reconstructions, the method gives patients and medical personnel enhanced insight into complicated anatomical structures. Models of this nature are useful tools to enhance doctor-patient communication, enabling individuals better to envision their condition and the possible result of surgery. Models also provide surgeons with a correct, interactive model of defects, enabling preoperative planning and enhancing procedural accuracy
Designing IMSA\u27s Al Future: Al Center Curricular Connections Intern
The Al Center\u27s goal is to further development of Al curriculum, opportunities, and development within the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA). My role in the Al Center included the creation and management of the Al Center Student Innovation Cohort, which is a small team of students which research and create lessons on Al related topics to implement in upcoming classes such as Artificial Intelligence 1. While we primarily focuse on managing the team in order to provide quality results, we also contributed to the development of said curriculum through creating lesson plans. We also incorporated elements such as the LEGO Spike prime into activities within the lessons in order to assist with the visualization of certain Al related topics, leading to a more comprehensive and easy to understand lesson. Our end goal is the creation of content which would be not only used within IMSA, but also be readily available digitally in order to facilitate learning in Other educational organizations, leading to a general increase in knowledge in the field of Al

The Core of Computing
Computer science can be divided into three foundational paradigms: theory, design, and abstraction. I will share an effort to bring these paradigms to IMSA through two new courses, Elements of Computing Systems 1 and 2, and an independent study, Theory of Computation. The goal is to build a rigorous, engaging foundation for deeper study in computer science. In this talk, I’ll reflect on what’s working, what’s challenging, and early classroom experiences
Are You Following Me?: Using Social Media to Engage Students
In this session, we will explore how social media can be used to complement curriculum, encourage student learning, and build a stronger community of learners both inside and outside the classroom. We will look at social media examples of subject-area (and even class-specific) accounts from IMSA and beyond to discuss how we can create content designed for students and—by intentional use of algorithmic AI—shape what content is being pushed to their feeds on a regular basis
