Underwater images obtained using digital cameras have become one of the main tools for studying the behavior and ecology of marine organisms in their native environment. In this research, the acquisition of images by trawling and vertical profiling with a commercial camera mounted on a steel structure called a Bell was tested. Fifty-four videos of longer horizontal trawls (stratified) (10 minutes) and 27 videos of short vertical profiling (3 minutes) were obtained, and the quality of the images associated with the identification of organisms was evaluated. The best way to work with the Bell, the need for accessories and adaptations and the protocol for its use were determined, as well as the relationship between water transparency (Secchi disk) and the possibility of identifying and quantifying planktonic forms in the images. The results indicate that the use of the Bell at low speed, i.e., in vertical profiling and with lighting, presented the best results and greater efficiency in identifying the occurrences of organisms. The relationship between water transparency and obtaining good quality images was observed more reliably in conditions of Secchi disk measurements greater than 2.5 m. Due to the water transparency conditions and the variability in the occurrence of organisms, the probability of recording gelatinous forms was 37.5% of the total field trips. Analysis of the videos indicated a possible vertical migration behavior of the Hydrozoa Olindias sambaquiensis. The images also highlighted the abundance of Pseudo-TEPs (Transparent Exopolymer Particles), structures believed to play a relevant role in the pelagic ecology of coastal waters.

ABSTRACTData provenance encompasses the description of the origin andhistorical events of data processing. Although models such as W3CPROV allow capturing and analyzing provenance data, additionalmethods are required to address software development processes’specific uses and complexities. In this context, the PROV-SwProcessprovenance model was developed to extend W3C PROV. However, the PROV-SwProcess provenance model does not provide a specifictool to enable its instantiation. In this vein, this paper aims topresent the PROV-SwSystem - a web-based system to capture, store, and analyze software process data along with their provenance, adhering to the PROV-SwProcess model. To achieve this, the DesignScience Research (DSR) methodology was adopted, supportingthe system creation, construction, and validation. PROV-SwSystemwas implemented using Javascript, Bootstrap, Node.js, and Jquery, encompassing all predefined use cases. Unit tests and system testswere performed, identifying six redundant variables and five redundantfunctions. In addition, an exploratory usability test wasperformed with an external user, revealing fifteen navigation issues, eight attempts to register data in inappropriate sections, sixregistration confirmation failures, and data integration problems.Actions for data entry validation and interface improvements wereimplemented, enabling the tool’s usage and paving the way forfuture testing on a larger scale

AbstractAs distributed systems become increasingly pervasive in everydaylife, performance analyses that provide quantifiable insights intothe efficiency of these systems are essential. This study proposesan analysis of the performance of backend frameworks that enablethe development of such distributed systems. It is expected that thefindings of this project will guide better technology choices for thedevelopment of future distributed applications. The results indicatethat the choice of the ideal framework depends on the specific needsof the application. The Flask framework stands out as a robust andefficient option for scenarios requiring a high number of requestsand handling of lightweight data. Actix is an interesting choice forapplications that prioritize low resource consumption. ASP.NETcan be a good option for handling large volumes of data, despite itstendency for high CPU usage
