Studies on the development of cerebellum of one-humped camel (Camelus dromedarius)

A histomorphological study of the development of foetal cerebellum was conducted. It was observed that at first trimester there were fewer fissures in the folia which progressively increased towards the third trimester. It was also observed that the histology of cerebellum of camel foetus at first trimester showed clear distinct external granular layer which was thin densely parked with cells which progressively decrease in thickness and amount of cells towards the third trimester. The next layer which was the molecular layer with less cell (stellate and basket) compared to the external germinal layer increased in volume with increased age. The molecular layer was followed by a densely cell (Golgi and granule) packed internal granular layer which progressively increased from first trimester to the third trimester. Purkinje cells which were in-between molecular and internal granular layer were not seen in the first trimester but were gradually becoming more visible in the subsequent trimesters. The development of the cerebellum in this study is similar to what was observed in most of the animal species

Diffuse Endocrine System and Paragangliomas: Pathology, Predictive Biochemistry and Genetics

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the diffuse neuroendocrine system (neuroendocrine cells spread as a single cell or as clusters of cells  throughout the gastrointestinal tract, the bronchopulmonary system, and the urogenital tract), are often  referred to as carcinoids..Neuroendocrine tumors may present a considerable diagnostic and therapeutic challenge as their clinical presentation is nonspecific and usually late, when metastases are already evident. Tumors of the diffuse neuroendocrine system represent a significant and increasing clinical problem, and there is a need to develop both early diagnostic tests as well as to establish targeted therapeutic strategies

The study investigated the microbial quality of gari (viz yellow and white) sold in five markets of Yenagoa metropolis, Nigeria. Three Fifteen samples of each type of gari were obtained from each market. Microbiological examination of the samples was carried using standard microbiological procedure. Results showed that total heterotrophic bacteria, total coliform and total fungi ranged from 3.848 to 4.973 Log cfu/g, 2.659 to 3.793 Log cfu/g and 3.371 to  3.832 Log cfu/g respectively (yellow gari); 4.206 to 5.206 Log cfu/g, 3.242 to 3.803 Log cfu/g, and 3.887 to 4.145 Log cfu/g respectively (white gari). Analysis of variance of Log coliform forming counts showed that there was no significance difference (P>0.05) among the various markets. The microbial density is within acceptable and tolerable level for ready to eat food. The bacterial species tentatively identified in both gari types include Micrococcus, Klebsiella, Proteus, Bacillus and Corynebacterium species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes and E. coli. The fungal species are Aspergillus niger, Fusarium, Rhizopus, Mucor and Penicillium species. Some of these microbes found in gari samples are suspected potential pathogens to human health

A study on the health hazards of the women scavengers using fuzzy matrix

    No full text
This paper gives a brief survey on the health hazards of the women scavengers. The method of application of Combined Effective Time Dependent Data (CETD) Matrix, Average Time Dependent Data (ATD) Matrix and Refined Time Dependent Data (RTD) Matrix which are the fuzzy models are studied using fuzzy matrices. The notion of fuzzy models using the concept of mean and standard deviation (SD) of the real data matrices are obtained. In order to make an analysis a sample study from particular place of Salem located at Tamilnadu, India has been taken. The graphical representation at different parameters of α are drawn using MATLAB. Conclusion and some suggestions are also provided. Â

    Role of nutrition in cancer

Cancer is a term that describes a collection of relatable diseases. Characteristic to a majority of cancers, a cell starts dividing uncontrollably and invades neighbouring tissues. Most cancers form solid tumours, except in the case of  leukaemia[1].Lifestyle and dietary measures can play a vital role in the prevention of many types of cancer[2]. This paper focuses on various dietary factors that either increases/ decreases cancer risk in individuals. Further, specific nutrients as an adjunct to chemotherapeutic drugs in the treatment of cancer are evaluated for their safety, effectiveness, and reliability

Surface water harbors several useful aquatic plants. Eichhornia crassipes is an invasive plant found in several aquatic ecosystems in the Niger Delta including rivers, creeks and creeklets. This study investigated the physicochemical and proximate composition of Eichhornia crassipes from River Nun, Amassoma axis, Nigeria. Standard analytical methods were employed for both water quality and proximate analysis. Results showed that the physicochemical properties ranged from 6.910 – 7.350 (pH), 25ºC (temperature), 0.000 – 0.017 mg/l (salinity), 10.333 – 34.333mg/l (total dissolved solid), 25.700 – 40.533 NTU (turbidity), 0.903 - 3.333 mg/l (total hardness), 3.4333 – 5.466 mg/l (total suspended solid), 33.167 – 68.000 µS/cm (conductivity), 0.500 – 3.466 mg/l (chloride), 0.566 – 0.866 mg/l (sulphate), 0.117 – 0.394 mg/l (nitrate), 0.800 – 2.333mg/l (calcium), 0.333 – 0.816mg/l (potassium), 0.533 – 1.310mg/l (sodium), 0.390 – 1.466 mg/l (magnesium), 0.023 – 0.463 mg/l (iron) and 0.003 – 0.023 mg/l (manganese). Proximate composition including moisture content, ash, protein, lipid, fiber and dry matter ranged from 82.733 – 87.760%, 6.216 – 7.700%, 3.656 -5.036%, 1.836 -3.023%, 5.700 – 7.166% and 12.283 -17.300% respectively. Analysis of variance showed that there were significant variations (P<0.05) in all the parameters across the sample batches.  The proximate composition of Eichhornia crassipes from River Nun provide vital information that indicates that the plant could be used for the production of value added products such animal feeds and purification of water

Bayesian Vector Autoregression (BVAR) modeling and forecasting of the dynamic interrelationship between GDP and agricultural sector in Nigeria

In the Bayesian VAr literatures, the Litterman Prior has been compared with other priors for example with Sims-Zha prior. It has been shown that the Sims-Zha prior has more advantages over the Litterman prior. For example, the Litterman prior estimates the VAr coefficients on equation-by-equation basis, but the Sims-Zha prior estimates the parameter for the full system in a multivariate regression. The implication is that the Sims-Zha prior allows for a more general specification and produce a tractable multivariate normal posterior distribution. We proposed four (4) versions of BVAr models of the secondary data on GDP and Agriculture sector for the Nigerian economy collected from CBN website from 1960 to 2011. We found that the BVAr1 produced the forecast with the minimum rmse and MAE as 0.05666357 and 0.03721166 respectively. We therefore concluded that from the economic point of view, our results suggested that in the presence of prior information (which can come from different sources, either experience or economy theory) can significantly improved the forecasts from economic models
