A Brief Overview on Microbial Communities Associated with Lichens

    Get PDF
The investigation of microorganisms from so far unexplored ecological niches has become an exciting subject in recent years. Lichens are ecologically highly adapted and also unique because the physiological integration of organisms provides conditions for persistence under extreme environmental conditions. Lichens are generally considered as symbiosis between fungi and green algae or cyanobacteria. These partnerships give raise to light-exposed and long-living joint structures, and the unique organization of lichens provides still unexplored environments for microbial communities. Recent studies showed that lichens harbour high abundances and diversity of bacteria but their exact location, ecology and biotechnological potential are still unexplored. The present paper summarizes briefly and gives an overview about the most important topics related to the study of the microbial community inhabiting the lichen thalli.Â

Mycobacterial infections are infectious diseases. Control of TB is complicated by difficulties in the long-course chemotherapy treatment, the inability to eliminate latent microbes, and the increasing emergence of multidrug resistant strains of M. tuberculosis. New anti-TB drugs are urgently needed, including developments of short-term treatments to minimize the emergence of drug resistance and new drugs to treat multidrug resistant tuberculosis and to eliminate the latent microbes. Many new structural anti-TB agents exhibited promising activities against susceptible and resistant strains of M. tuberculosis. The diarylquinoline with superior anti-tuberculosis activity and encouraging results of nitroimidazopyrans and oxazolidinones have generated considerable excitement. In this review study the efforts to use of drugs for treatment of tuberculosis

DESIGNING and ANALYSIS of GATES BASED on ADIABATIC LOGIC

    Get PDF
Due to various advantages, CMOS are being widely used in designing of LSI(Large Scale Integration) & VLSI(Very Large Scale Integration). However there are some other sources present in CMOS which are responsible for the power dissemination that can be pigeonholed as follows: Dynamic Power Consumption, Short Circuit Currents, Leakage Current. To reduce this power consumption another CMOS logic family called the adiabatic switching logic based on adiabatic switching principle. The adiabatic logic structure significantly decreases the power scattering. The switching technique puts forward a methodology to reuse the energy put away in the load capacitors as opposed to the conventional method which used to release the energy of capacitors into the ground and squandering this energy.Presnt paper discusses the standards of adiabatic logic, its arrangement and classification of different adiabatic logic circuits. An endeavor has been made in this paper to change 2PASCL (Two Phase adiabatic Static CMOS Logic) adiabatic logic circuit by replacing the MOS diode with simple PN diode which decreases the impact of Capacitances at high  clock frequency

With the advent of the ever changing technology and the intense sophistication in methods and means of committing illegal activities, crime is no longer narrowly defined vies-a-vie the law but there is need to be able to handle technologically oriented crimes commonly referred to as Cybercrimes. Cybercrimes are crimes that involve the use of computers to undertake illegal. Collection of statistics associated with cybercrimes can be quite tricky and daunting, since their collection and tabulation can only be done when aggrieved parties report them. Some of these illegal activities that constitute cybercrimes include, but not limited to, creation of counterfeit currency or official documents using computer scanners and graphics programs, embezzlement of funds using computers to skim very small sums of money from a large number of accounts, distribution of child pornography on the Internet, and theft of digital property. Other crimes that can also be committed include fraud, hate crimes, stalking, gambling, hacking; spread of malware, phishing, spamming, Botnet attacks, DDoS attacks, espionage and money laundering. In this paper we present results on usability of HoneyPots in KENET member institutions in western Kenya as proactive detection tools for monitoring cyber related incidences.Â

Biodegradation of dimethylamine using Pseudomonas aeruginosa

    No full text
The degradation of different concentrations of Dimethylamine (DMA) (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 mM) was attempted employing the bacterial strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from tannery effluent contaminated site. The isolated strain exhibited efficient degradation of DMA which was assessed by studying the factors, pH, turbidity of the medium, CO2 and ammonia released during the degradation experiment. The degradation of DMA was further confirmed by HPLC analysis. The results of the experiment were evaluated statistically using two way ANOVA

Flight Performance Of Constant/ Variable Thrust Programmed Rocket In Vacuum With Constant Thrust Inclination With Respect To Horizon For Given Launching Velocity and Angle

    Get PDF
The rocket is launched at an angle of elevation with an initial velocity and thereafter is maneuvered with a constant or variable thrust which is again inclined at a constant angle with respect to the horizon. The overall range consisting of power and coasting phases has been determined. Finally this paper deals with maximization of the range with respect to optimum launching angle and thrust inclination. Two numerical examples are cited

Study of Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) - Dependent Pseudothrombocytopenia

Objective: To evaluate and compare the cases of EDTA-PTCP with actual platelet counts at different time intervals with new anticoagulant. Methods: This cross–sectional study was carried out in rural tertiary centre in central India. Blood samples were collected in K3-EDTA and CPT vials separately and subjected for peripheral smear examination and manual platelet counts. Comparison of platelet counts obtained by automated cell counter at 30 minutes, 3-4 hours and at 24 hours of blood collection from both anticoagulants and with manual counts was done. Results: The platelet counts in EDTA anticoagulated blood on suspicion of thrombocytopenia, as well as even after collection of fresh blood sample from same patient in EDTA and the counts at different time intervals showed significantly lower counts than that observed in CPT anticoagulated blood at the parallel time intervals and than that in the manual platelet counts. Conclusions: Unrecognized PTCP may result in unnecessary laboratory testing, bone marrow aspiration and unwarranted transfusions and will prevent needless evaluations of thrombocytopenia and related therapeutic decisions

Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma Of Thyroid Gland: A Rare Case Report

    Get PDF
Introduction: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a common neoplasm of the salivary gland but can also occur in other sites like oesophagus, breast, lungs, pancreas, etc .In thyroid gland it is very uncommon or rare and is said to be of low grade indolent neoplasm. In literature few cases have been reported.Case report: 43 year old female presented with progressive midline swelling since 20 years with alteration in voice since two months. CT revealed heterogeneous enhancing lesion of 35x50x37 mm in left lobe of thyroid. FNAC revealed epithelial malignancy. Total thyroidectomy was done and specimen sent for histopathology.Result: Microscopically the tumor showed cells arranged in follicular and trabecular pattern. These tumors cells were of columnar and mucin producing type arranged in glandular pattern. Some of the cells show squamous metaplastic changes. These glands or follicles lack colloid. Final diagnosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma of thyroid was given. Conclusion: Mucoepidermoid Carcinomaof thyroid is low grade neoplasm which extends into  ajjacent tissue by local infiltration and unlikely to metastasize, hence progress is good. It can also have agressive behaviour and hence a through search to be done histologically and also rule out other metastatic lesions

Background: The assessment of coping strategies used by the mothers of children with leukemia will provide a further basis of helping mothers’ adaptation.  This study was undertaken to assess the coping strategies used by mothers of children with leukemia in Bharati Hospital  Pune, India. Methods: This was an exploratory study of 60 mothers whose children diagnosed with leukemia within one year and taking treatment from Bharati Hospital, Pune, India. Data collection was conducted based upon coping strategy Scale including Problem solving( Acceptance, seeking support, and positive action) and emotional( avoidance, emotive and distancing) coping strategies. Correlation with selected demographic variables is also done.A total of 60 mothers whose children diagnosed with leukemia within one year of life participated in study. Results: Results of this study showed 71.7 % of the mothers of children with leukemia are having poor coping strategies. The mothers have used both problem solving and emotional coping strategy equally as follows  , seeking support  (5.33±0.75 ), then emotive coping strategy  (4.8±1.30) , Acceptance (2.9±0.51), Avoidance(2.5±0.64) Distancing (1.9±0.87) then positive action (1.6±1.2). Duration of illness are the demographic variables which were found to have significant association with Coping strategies. It can be interpretted from the findings that the coping strategies are poor with in four months after diagnosis is made as p value is less than 0.05
