Physical Measurements and Physical Fitness Level of the Students of Nara Saho Jogakuin College (1997-1998)
This paper reports on the physical fitness level and physical measurements (height and weight) for the nst・year students of the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 academic years. The students' height and weight were similar to the national average for 18-year-old girls. The average body mass index was 21.5 (1997) and 22.2 (1998); however, about 20% of the 1998 first-year students were classified as "overweight" and "obese." The students performed better than the nationwide average in the grip strength, step test, and back strength tests. But their performance was inferior in side-stepping, the vertical jump, and 50-meter run. As well, poor performance in standing trunk flexion tests gave an indication of stiffness of the joints.資料departmental bulletin pape
Elective Course ‘Culture of Children' and Children's Language―Theory and Practice―
This paper reports on an elective course called ‘Children's Culture', which was given in 1998. The purpose of this elective was to make students more sensitive to language, especially children's language. For the course, the students were required to study several theories of language acquisition. They also had to do a number of activities, which included reading picture books aloud and reading 70 picture books and writing a brief report on each. An end-of-course evaluation showed that the students were satisfied and that the teacher found the theory and practice well balanced although the work load was too much for one semester.研究ノートdepartmental bulletin pape
Ventilation Requirements for Odor Control in Kitchen ーEmission Rate and Characteristics of Cooking Odorー
The aim of this study is to research the ventilation requirements for odor control in kitchen. In this paper, the emission rate and characteristics of typical cooking odors in Japanese kitchens were evaluated by a sensory odor test. The tested odors were from grilled fish, miso soup and curry stew. Results showed that the emission rate of these odors is too enormous to dilute to the threshold concentration level for residents and that the characteristics of these odors are different from one another.論文departmental bulletin pape

Estimation of Exerting Muscle Strength and Modification of the Movement in Lifting Object with Unexpected Change of Weight
Estimation of muscle strength for lifting object and modification of the movement were investigated in condition that unexpected change of weight occurred. Subjects lifted heavy (2kp) and light (0.5kp) objects with elbow flexion fast but the movement was not ballistic. Subjects firstly lifted the heavy object g times (H1-H9), secondly the light object 12 times (L1-L12), and lastly the heavy object 3 times (hl-h3). Change of weight was not instructed to the subjects. Peak value of flexion angle in LI was significantly larger than that in other cases of lifting of light object indicating overshoot. Mean angular velocity from start of lifting to peak of flexion was larger in LI than other lifting of light object, and smaller in hi than other lifting of heavy object. EMG amplitude of biceps brachialis(BB) at start of lifting in LI was as large as one in lifting heavy object. It was observed that the large amplitude continued in spite of lifting light object, and subject overshot consequently. In case that remarkable overshooting did not occur, EM G of BB disappeared about 200ms later from start of movement and appeared considerable larger EMG of biceps triceps to stop the movement. Thus, it is considered that exerting level of muscle strength was set centrally before the start of the movement, and modification of the movement did not always occur even if the movement was not ballistic where peripheral feedback was utilizable.論文departmental bulletin pape

Dietary Habits of Female Students
In order to understand the dietary habits of young women, food intake, salt excreted in urine, and energy expenditure were investigated in women's college students. The fat energy ratio exceeded 30%, and the amount of calcium and iron intake were 73% and 63%, respectively, of recommended dietary allowances. The intake of milk, vegetables and soybean products was small in the group which was remarkably deficient in both calcium and iron. The energy expenditure・ of students who have part-time work was higher and their nutrition was better than the others. The amount of salt in urine, almost equal to the amount of salt intake, was 8g /day on the average, and the reason why it was rather small was not because of healthy eating habits but because of poor ones. It was difficult to estimate the exact amount of salt intake from the food, considering the amount of salt excreted in urine. Key Words : food intake, 24-hour urine, salt intake, energy expenditure, women's college students.departmental bulletin pape
Electron Microscopy of the Formation Process of Gametic Pronuclei during Conjugation in Tetrahymena thermophila
This study observed the ultrastructure of the micronucleus of Tetrahymena thermophila while pronuclei were formed. 1 ) The chromosome observed in the prezygotic division consists of a loose mass of fine chromonema, 6~8 nm in thickness. 2) The cap-form kinetochore consists of two structures: the core measuring approximately 210 nm in outer diameter and 20 nm in thickness and a surrounding halo approximately 30 nm in thickness. 3 ) Kinetochore always positions with its apex toward the pole. The kineto-microtubules are attached to the halo (convex surface) and the mesh of thin threads of chromonema was attached to the inner concave surface of the core. 4 ) The other edge of the bundle of kineto-microtubules stops somewhere near the inner nuclear membrane, inside of the polar area. 5) In the third prezygotic division, the elongated nucleus runs parallel to the cell-to-cell joint region. The pronucleus positioned in the apex of the joint region becomes a migratory pronucleus and the latter part becomes a stationary pronucleus. 6) Within the cytoplasm of the outer side of the migratory pronucleus, there are numerous microtubules and microfilaments which contribute to the processes of pronucleus exchange and the cell-to-cell joint region reformation after such exchange.
