Knowledge and Practice of Breast Cancer Screening and Awareness of Its Risk Factors Among Reproductive Women of Jammu and Kashmir
Get PDFINTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is the most common type of malignancy among women worldwide, therefore, it becomes necessary to understand the breast cancer literacy among women. Breast cancer literacy includes knowledge of breast cancer screening, practice of breast cancer screening and awareness of breast cancer risk factors. OBJECTIVES: To determine level of awareness and practice of breast cancer screening, to assess level of awareness of breast cancer risk factors and to establish role of demographics in uptake and knowledge of breast cancer screening. MATERIALS AND METHOD: In this study, reproductive women were taken and questionnaires given were filled by 381 respondents. Relevant questions were asked keeping in view the objectives. Role of age and maximum education of women was also established. RESULTS: It was found that majority of women who were aware of breast cancer screening belonged to age-group 21-30 having mean of 56.19% and also showed higher practice of the same as compared to others (mean=50.1%) followed by women belonging to age-group 31-40 whose knowledge mean came out to be 25.5% and mean of practice was found to be 35.26%. The other two age groups of 15-20 and 41-45 showed low knowledge and less practice of breast cancer screening. Similar results were found out for other parameter. CONCLUSION: Women whose maximum education was graduate and above showed higher level of awareness of breast cancer screening and risk factors and also higher practice of breast cancer screening as compared to women who had lower educational background

Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Health Care Ethics Among Medical, Dental and Nursing Colleges Students and Faculty in Visakhapatnam: A Questionnaire Study
Get PDFBACKGROUND: Dental ethics revolves around the extent to which actions within the dental practice promote good and reduce harm.AIM: The study aims to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice among the medical, dental, and nursing college students and faculty Visakhapatnam.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The 26-item questionnaire, self-administered, semi-structured, was designed to access the student's and faculty's knowledge, attitudes, and practices in the globe of healthcare ethics. With all the exclusion and inclusion criteria, the total sample derived as 1190. Statistical analysis was done using the SPSS Software Version 21.0 with the significant p-value at ≤ 0.05. Descriptive statistics, chi-Square test and ANOVA test used to compare the knowledge attitude and practice of dental, medical, and nursing students and faculty.RESULTS: Out of 1,190 participants, 456 participants belonged to medical out of which 239 are females, and 217 are males, 424 participants are from the specialty dental, 248 are females, and 176 are 310 participants belong to nursing in which 230 females and 80 males. The knowledge and attitude of dental college interns and postgraduates showed no significant difference in the Hippocratic oath, Nuremberg code, ICMR guidelines, Helsinki declaration with p-value 0.971, 0.899, 0.506, and 0.768. The knowledge and attitude of medical college interns and postgraduates showed a significant difference in the Hippocratic oath, Nuremberg code, ICMR guidelines with p-values 0.002, 0.040 and 0.011, respectively. The knowledge and attitude of final years showed considerable differences from the third years of nursing. CONCLUSION: The knowledge and attitude of health care ethics are significantly more in medical postgraduates than the medical interns, showed no significant difference in dental interns and graduates, and showed significant differences in nursing students

Dental Practitioners and their Perceptions Regarding the Use of Antioxidants in the Promotion of Oral Health
Get PDFINTRODUCTION: The role of free radicals is well established as a crucial component of the immune system. AIM: To assess the perception of dental practitioners of Northern and Central India regarding the role of antioxidants in oral health.MATERIALS AND METHOD: A pre-tested and pre-validated online questionnaire was distributed among various dental practitioners in Northern and Central India which consisted of dichotomous responses. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, followed by the Chi square test to check significant differences between the responses. Correlation between responses were analysed through the Spearman’s rank correlation. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20 (SPSS 20).RESULTS: A statistically significant difference was observed among the genders, with females 126 (43.7%) having lesser knowledge than males 162(56.3%) regarding the use of antioxidants in their clinical practice. High knowledge scores were observed in 288 (69.2%) dental professionals. Postgraduates were found to have (p=0.05) a higher level of knowledge as compared to graduates.CONCLUSION: The use of antioxidants in dentistry should be increased through the conduction of various CDE programmes. workshops and evidence-based practice guidelines

Teledentistry: A Novel Tool in our Arsenal to Combat COVID-19
Get PDFThe prevailing havoc due to rapid spread of COVID-19 has led to an unprecedented impact on dental care delivery. With the postponement or cancellation of all routine dental work, other than emergency care, the dental economy has come to a grinding halt. Aerosols and droplets are generated in many dental procedures, so dental professionals are under an enormous risk of occupational exposure to COVID-19. With no clear forays for the restoration of normalcy, the current crisis poses unique challenges to commence and sustain dental practice. Teledentistry has emerged as a panacea to the delivery of health care, with modified approaches promoting a virtual method of consultations, avoiding direct physical contact. Teledentistry can aid in prescreening patients for COVID symptoms, inquiring about travel history or a recent COVID-19 test result, that helps in risk stratification and deferring dental care to protect vulnerable and high-risk groups. But, it is improvident to restrict the utility of teledentistry to this time of pandemic only. Proactive integration of teledentistry in dental practice will enhance the virtual care which will change the way in which dental care services are rendered in the future
