Investigating the Demographic Characteristics of Institutional Investors Affecting Representativeness, Conservatism and Overconfidence Biases in Individual Investments

This study aims to identify the factors affecting representativeness, conservatism, and overconfidence biases in a sample of Turkish institutional investors. This study is different to other studies in that it focuses on the individual investments of institutional investors in capital markets. The respondents, who were selected via the convenience sampling method, were asked survey questions. In the study, models are formed with the stepwise method using linear regression analysis, and survey questions that represent the examined biases are selected as the dependent variables. The age, gender, marital status, education, having children, and the experience of institutional investors are included in the analysis as the independent variables. This way, we can reveal which of the independent variables are statistically significant and which of the subcategories of the independent variables are most influential on the biases. As a result of the analysis, in addition to determining the variables that affect a single bias, education level affects all examined biases, especially low education, which is higher. In the regression analysis, experience is identified as a significant variable affecting representativeness and conservatism biases. It is observed that the institutional investors who are inexperienced or less experienced interact with these two biases more in their decisions related to their individual investments. Gender is found to be a significant variable on both conservatism and representativeness biases, and female institutional investors are more effective than men on the representativeness and conservatism bias. Furthermore, it is determined that the marital status variable and the divorced institutional investors are significantly influential on conservatism and overconfidence biases

Model of Mitigation: Strategies to Utilise Unique Insider Research Opportunities

Insider research has in the past challenged researchers in terms of blurred lines, objectivity, bias confidentiality and maintaining professional working relationships. The opportunities it presents however include access to information, trust in the data collection, insider and intimate knowledge, and the ability for rich inside data collection. This paper discusses these opportunities and challenges, then makes recommendations for ten strategies to assist in data collection by an insider researcher. These strategies include communication, mixed methods, reflections, debrief, distance, confidentiality, interview technique, social network, voluntary and objectivity. The research concludes with the creation of a Model of Mitigation, which posits the ten mitigation strategies along with the four opportunities to assist insider researchers to overcome obstacles when conducting insider research, as insider research has been shown to collect rich data and enable organisations to reflect on the research findings and to implement recommendations made on an individual but organisation wide basis

Based on the panel data and time series data of China's 30 provinces (excluding Tibet) from 2004 to 2017, this paper analyzes the impact of China's OFDI on the resource allocation effect of equipment manufacturing industry through regression model. The empirical results show that China's OFDI has a significant positive effect on the resource allocation effect of equipment manufacturing industry, and with every unit of China's OFDI increasing, the profit margin of main business (PMB) of the equipment manufacturing industry will increase 0.087 percentage points. From the regional point of view, the growth of OFDI in Northeast China has a significant positive impact on the PMB of the equipment manufacturing industry, and its positive impact is the largest, followed by the eastern region, and the central and western regions have a significant negative impact. From the perspective of OFDI gradient, China's forward OFDI to developing countries and reverse OFDI to developed countries have a significant positive impact on the PMB of equipment manufacturing industry, and the impact of forward OFDI is more significant. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions on how to improve the efficiency of China's equipment manufacturing industry

ICT: Didactic Strategy using Online Simulators for the Teaching Learning of the Law of Conservation of Matter and its Relationship to Chemical Reactions in Higher Middle Education

It is imperative that a profound transformation be carried out in the traditional way in which we teach science subjects, so it is necessary that the role of student change from being a mere recipient of information to being the main player in the construction of his knowledge. One of the strategies to achieve this is to make use of ICT, within which are educational simulators, as a support resource to facilitate the teaching-learning processes taught in the classroom. The didactic strategy developed in this work was carried out with the PhET (https://phet.colorado.edu) simulator was used to improve the learning teaching of the law of conservation of the subject matter and its relationship with chemical reactions. To evaluate the learnings acquired by students, the Hake factor was determined. In terms of the implementation of this didactic strategy, students demonstrated greater recognition, understanding and appropriation of the knowledge gained about the importance of this law in chemical reactions. This teaching strategy is useful for higher middle-level schools that do not have a school science lab

The Impact of Government Debt and Foreign Investment on the Indonesian Economy: An ARDL Model Analysis

This study aims to obtain empirical evidence of the effect of government debt and foreign investment on Indonesia's economic growth. A number of macroeconomic variables are used to explain the influence between variables in both the short and long terms. The short-term effect is explained through the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model, while the long-term effect is explained through the long-run bounds test. The ARDL model shows that government debt, inflation, exchange rates and the BI rate have a negative and significant effect on economic growth. Meanwhile, foreign investment has a positive and significant effect on economic growth. The results of the long-run bounds test show that the increase in government debt and foreign investment does not have a significant effect on economic growth. Meanwhile, inflation and exchange rates have a negative and significant effect on economic growth. This is contrary to the case with the BI rate, which has a positive and significant impact on economic growth. The increase in government debt in the long term has an impact on the decline in output and public consumption. This is the impact of an increase in the tax burden in the future

Application of Translation Workshop to College English Translation Teaching

Undergraduate education throughout the world has long been confronted with the challenge of making students active learners who are responsible for their own learning. It has been widely recognized that higher education needs to turn to student-centered perspective and model which emphasizes students' learning effect, or the outcomes of talent training. The traditional "teaching-centered" translation training mode adopted to teach non-English majors in Chinese universities cannot effectively improve students' translation ability, though it may assist English language learning. The teaching mode of "translation workshop", aiming at improving students’ learning effect, emphasizes the learning process and enables students to learn and improve translation skills through real translation project, which is conducive to raising students’ awareness of cross cultural communication and cultivating their sense of responsibility as translators. The experiment done in the present study proves that applying "translation workshop" to teaching Chinese non-English majors can effectively stimulate students' interest in learning, increase their participation in learning, and thus improve the effect of translation learning

A dynamic business environment focuses on corporate profit and performance. Consequently, managers need strategically relevant information to formulate and implement business strategies in order to achieve business growth and survive in an uncertain economic environment. The purpose of this study is to examine the interaction effects of environmental uncertainty and strategic management accounting (SMA) on organizational performance. The configurations are derived from a sample of 166 medium and large firms in the lower northern region of Thailand. A quantitative method is used for data collection through a survey design approach using a questionnaire. Contingency theory is employed in this study. The results indicate that a fit between environmental uncertainty and strategic management accounting has a positive, direct relationship with organizational performance. Moreover, a higher level of environmental uncertainty will improve organizational performance. As previous studies have not fully addressed the interactive linkage, this study provides evidence of how key factors can interact to promote organizational performance
