Intra-firm communication is critical for building synergy amongst the internal business units of a firm, enabling employees from various functional departments and ranks to incorporate their decision-making, understanding of organizational objectives, and common norms and culture to achieve increased organizational effectiveness. This study builds on and assesses a framework of the causes and consequences of effective communication in business interactions between customer and supplier firms, as well as the path for efficient communication within a firm. The proposed study’s structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis based on 352 responses collected from firm representatives in different job positions, ranging from marketing to logistics operations, revealed that in terms of intra-organizational communication, organization characteristics and shared values, top management support and style of leadership, and information technology were all significantly related to communication effectiveness. Furthermore, the frequency and variety of interactions enhanced communication outcomes, thus improving company performance. The results revealed that cultural factors were significantly related to communication effectiveness, as well as shared beliefs and goals. The organizational factors of leadership style, top management support, and information technology were significant determinants of effective communication. Among the contextual factors, interaction frequency and diversity were found to be significant. The study also tested the relationship between supplier and supplier firm performance in the context of communication effectiveness and found that they were closely related when trust and commitment were built between business partners

Structure of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Sector in the Vietnam Economy: An Input – Output Analysis

Every country has agriculture, but only some Asian countries, including Vietnam have a predominant culture of agriculture. In recent decades, it seems that economic and agricultural development is trying to change the purity of Vietnamese people with the "industrialization and modernization" movement, trying to force the Vietnamese people to adopt modern practices instead of reaping the benefits of cultivation, thus breeding become workers. When Vietnamese people's strengths are not used and promoted, they are forced to use their weaknesses. Thus, failure is almost inevitable. In Vietnam, the importance of an industry, or group of industries, is usually measured by the share of the value added of the industry (or group of industries) of GDP. This can lead to misunderstandings regarding the importance of that sector. This study examines the change in the interactions between agriculture, forestry, and fisheries with other sectors of the economy based on the structure of the 2012 and 2016 Input/Output (I/O) tables of Vietnam

Nexus between Firm Ownership, Board Composition and Initial Public Offering Stocks Performance at the Nairobi Securities Exchange in Kenya

Extant literature has globally demonstrated two anomalies of initial public offering (IPO) stock performance: positive initial returns and long-run underperformance. Kenya’s IPO market is experiencing a downward trend, with the last issue in 2015. The bond market has gained traction compared to the equity market. Studies have associated firm-specific factors with IPO stock performance and ignored the moderating variable of automation. This study analyzed the relationship between firm ownership, board composition and IPO stock performance on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The percentage of shares owned by the Kenyan government was used to measure firm ownership, and board composition was measured by the percentage of executive board members to total board members. The performance of IPO stocks was measured using both cumulative abnormal returns (CARs) and buy and hold abnormal returns (BHARs). Automation was measured by IPO stock performance between the pre- and post-automation period. The sample size comprises 15 firms which floated shares between 1994 and 2019, with a total of 2,586 observations. Longitudinal and descriptive study designs were used together with a multiple linear regression to analyze the data. The Hausman test was used to choose between the fixed and random effects models. It was established that both firm ownership and board composition correlated negatively with IPO stock performance. Automation, on the other hand, was positively correlated with board composition but did not correlate with firm ownership. This study will assist the Kenyan government in developing financial stability measures, and investors in making informed decisions

Managerial Incentives and the Valuation of International Joint Venture Formation

Strategic management decisions and actions involving international joint venture formations are significant to many firms and have major economic consequences. Previous empirical evidence on the effects of joint venture formation announcements on shareholder wealth reveals that firm value is more often positively impacted. However, many previous analyses of shareholder wealth from joint venture formations do not fully explore cross-sectional differences in managerial incentives to pursue these international investments. The primary purpose of this study is to exploit these cross-sectional differences using agency theory to explain managerial behavior and subsequent shareholder effects. This study capitalizes on agency theory’s notion that managers are not necessarily motivated solely by the maximization of firm value, but instead are interested in maximizing their own utility. The study’s findings are consistent with agency theoretic hypotheses based on a broad cross-section of international joint ventures. Results demonstrate that shareholder returns to international joint venture formation exhibit considerable variability and, importantly, are at least partially explained by cross-sectional differences in agency incentives. Specifically, returns to shareholders are positively related to the level of managerial ownership and inversely related to the level of free cash flow. Moreover, a positive relation is found between shareholder returns and the joint interaction between leverage and free cash flow. These findings indicate that the effect of international joint venture formation on shareholder value is not uniform and, more importantly is at least partly influenced by managers’ agency incentives

Forensic Accounting and Fraud Management in Nigeria

The study evaluated forensic accounting techniques on fraud management in the public sector ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria. Based on the rise in corruption in Nigeria, evidenced in the latest Transparency International corruption perception index of Nigeria, and the fact that the public sector constitutes a larger part of the economy in Nigeria, this study was undertaken to ascertain the operational ability of forensic accounting techniques in public sector accounting departments. The study investigated how data mining, accounting ratios and trend analysis tools detect to prevent fraudulent activities in MDAs. A survey research design was adopted for the study. The ordinary least squares (OLS) multiple regression analysis technique revealed that the adoption of forensic accounting tools (data mining, accounting ratios and trend analysis) will significantly enhance the ability to detect and/or prevent fraud in MDAs. It also revealed a knowledge gap in the application of these preventative control techniques and the usefulness of trend analysis as a technique for detecting fraudulent practices in public service operations. It is thus recommended that the human capital of MDAs is developed by making professional qualifications and knowledge of information technology mandatory requirements for staff working in the accounts department and ensuring robust IT facilities
