Performance Evaluation of Nature-Inspired Algorithms in constrained Optimization

    Get PDF
In almost all scientific contributions to the field of Nature-Inspired Algorithms (NIAs), the researchers select some benchmark test suites, which makes possible to draw conclusions on the merit of the proposed algorithm. Hence, it is a vital task to compose comprehensive test suites with the aim of covering variety of different scenarios. Furthermore, while conducting comparative analysis of results obtained with NIAs, selection of the proper performance indicators are of paramount importance. This paper intends to address these two topics with a special stress on NIAs designed for constrained optimization

Denver Groups Classification of Human Chromosomes Using CANN Teams Supplemented by a Nearest Neighbor Technique CANNT-S

    Get PDF
Human chromosomes can be classified into seven Denver groups (A – G) based on the position of the centromere. This classification is an important stage of human chromosome classification, as its output influence the second stage of classification, the correct classification of 24 classes of human chromosomes based on the banding pattern. In this article, the novel artificial neural network committee machines technique (CANNT) developed earlier is supplemented by a nearest neighbor technique, CANNT-S, and the correct classification rate in Denver Groups Classification of Human Chromosomes rose from 96% to a level of 98%

The Effect of Tamoxifen Treatment During 24 Months On Alkaline Phosphatase Concentration In Breast Cancer Patients

    Get PDF
Determination of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) isoenzyme activity is useful for the diagnosis and clinical evaluation of cancer patients, including breast cancer. 21 women were randomized to receive tamoxifen, probably the most widely used endocrine treatment for breast cancer worldwide, for 2 years, and 21 women constituted the control group. Control group were treated without Tamoxifen considering placebo effect. Alkaline phosphatase level was significantly lower in tamoxifen treated female breast cancer patients when compared with those of the treated patients with placebo. Results indicates that the tamoxifen decrease the level of ALP in first three months and then stabilize this level in the following months

Diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease by Boosted Neural Networks

    Get PDF
A boosting by filtering technique for neural network systems with back propagation together with a majority voting scheme is presented in this paper. Previous research with regards to predict the presence of Parkinson’s Disease has shown accuracy rates up to 92.9% [1] but it comes with a cost of reduced prediction accuracy of the minority class. The designed neural network system boosted by filtering in this article presents a significant increase of robustness and it is shown that by majority voting of the parallel networks, recognition rates reach to > 90 in a imbalanced 3:1 imbalanced class distribution Parkinson’s Disease data set

A boosting by filtering technique for neural network systems with back propagation together with a majority voting scheme is presented in this paper. Previous research with regards to predict the presence of cardiovascular diseases has shown accuracy rates up to 72.9%. Using a boosting by filtering technique prediction accuracy increased over 80%. The designed neural network system in this article presents a significant increase of robustness and it is shown that by majority voting of the parallel networks, recognition rates reach to > 90 in the V.A. Medical Center, Long Beach and Cleveland Clinic Foundation data set

    DNA Sequencing

    Get PDF
The sequencing of the Human Reference Genome, with Human Genome Project announced ten years ago, provided a roadmap that is the foundation for modern biomedical research. Reference Genome represents digital database founded by scientists which contains representative examples of species genomes. The need for sequencing has never been greater than it is today. Sequencing has found its applications within diverse research sectors including comparative genomics and evolution, forensics, epidemiology, and applied medicine for diagnostics and therapeutics. Arguably, the strongest rationale for ongoing sequencing is the question for identification and interpretation of human sequence variation as it relates to health and disease. The paper gives review of current DNA sequencing algorithms and techniques as well as next-generation of DNA sequencing. Since the DNA sequencing field is changing rapidly the information in this paper represent a snapshot of this particular moment

Fuzzy Control of Water Level and Temperature in Fish Eggs Breeding Tank with Different Sensor Inputs

    Get PDF
In this paper fuzzy logic principles are used to control the level and temperature of water in fish eggs breading tank. The control task aims to keep the water level and the water temperature in a tank within certain ranges, the temperature due to Newton’s law of cooling would drop down, and to keep it within limits, hot water is added, and cold water is drained. Sensors for temperature and level are used to give fuzzy input to the fuzzy controller which outputs the amount of opening in the two control valves

Report: State-of-the-Art DE-ghosting Algorithms for High Dynamic Range Imaging

    No full text
High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) may be generated by combining multiple low dynamic range (LDR) images of the same scene with different exposures. However, this technique of generating HDR images is limited to static scenes. During capturing of LDR images, any changes in the scene between different captures caused by either camera shake or object motion results in ghost artifacts in the produced HDR image. These ghost artifacts make the same object appear more than once in the generated HDR image. As a result, deghosting algorithms have been developed over the past years in an attempt to remove any ghosting present in HDR images. This article is a report of  „State-of-the-art deghosting algorithms for generating HDR images“(Karađuzović-Hadžiabdić K., and Hasić Telalović J., 2013)

Decision Making Under the Risk Using Assets Liability Model (ALM): Case Study on Four Assets with no Transaction Costs

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on the Asset Liability Model (ALM) with multistage stochastic model. The model is based on four assets with no transaction costs. The initial wealth is Wo should be invested wisely to meet the liability L at the end of the planned horizon H. the best possible decision is to keep the final wealth larger than liability L. Using excel solver we try to optimize solution as best possible decision that will at least meeting the liability L at the end of the terminal wealth. The optimization case was adopted from the book (Brandimarte, 2011, pp.754-758) which has been modified with four assets and with no transaction costs. In adapting the case, we added additional returns for extra 2 stocks, while returns for the initial stock and bond remain

    Multiple Methods for Genome Filtering

    Get PDF
Filters are fast algorithms, which help to preprocess DNA sequences in order to reduce the time and complexity of approximate motif search. Multiple filtering methods exist, and this paper classifies the filtering algorithms based on their approach, numerical analysis or digital signal processing, and it briefly reviews both classes of filters. The paper also reflects on filters currently used in popular software for genomic processing
