    Get PDF
This study aims to see how al-Palimbani\u27s thoughts about tawakal were studied through his famous work on Sufism, the book Sair as-Salikin ila `Ibadah Rabb al-\u27Alamin. Tawakal is one part of maqāmat, which is a level that must be taken by a Sufi to get to the presence of Allah, which means: surrender, entrust and represent. On the other hand, there are those who say tawakal is very closely related to monotheism because it is an element that is within a believer\u27s Muslim, faith has faith, that belief is the foundation of faith in a Muslim who believes. Tawakal means getting rid of dependency, eliminate persuasion related to someone’s character, and guided by truths in the following character. Al-Palimbani was one of the Palembang-born archipelago Sufis who were closer to al-Ghazali. In some cases, there were many differences. Al-Palimbani Sufi teachings have a considerable influence, not only in the archipelago but also to the Middle East region. Until now al-Palimbani\u27s work on Sufism is still widely used by Sufism or tarekat recitation groups, both in Indonesia and in other Southeast Asian  2l countries, such as in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, including Thailand. Al-Palimbani offered the concept of tawakal as an absolute surrendering to Allah

The flow of ethical thought does not stop at Western Philosophy. Ethical thinking also colors and influences the discourse of thought in Islamic Philosophy. Differences in the style of Western Philosophy and Islamic Philosophy have a significant impact that has caused a debate about the expertise and courage of a Muslim thinker in adopting Greek ethical thought by not leaving the corridors of Islamic teachings. A very striking difference is the portion of the use of ratios in the construction of thought. One such debate is the difference of opinion regarding the contribution of Ibn Miskawaih in ethical discourse. Some Muslim thinkers say that Ibn Miskawaih is an ethical figure with his main work Tahdzib al-Akhlaq, while other opinions say that he is a moral figure. Thus, this research will show Ibn Miskawaih’s thought building in deeper, so that the foundations of his thought can be seen. More broadly, this research is important to be done to clarify the realm of moral and ethical discourse that develops in Islamic Philosophy, even though Western Philosophy and Islamic Philosophy have the same universal values. This study examines the book Tahdzib al-Akhlaq which is a Ibn Miskawaih master piece. This research attempts to answer the question whether Tahdzib al- Akhlaq is an ethical or moral book. This was done by examining two works of translation of Tahdzib al-Akhlaq, namely The Refinement of Character written by Constantine K. Zurayk and Towards Moral Perfection written by Helmi Hidayat. This research is focused on tracing the arguments compiled by Ibn Miskawaih and tracking the minds of the figures that influence them. From this research it was concluded that Tahdzib al-Akhlaq was not an ethical work, but a moral work. This affirms the criticism made by Fazlur Rahman that Muslim philosophers have failed to produce logically related ethical systems

In the past theological differences have also been responded to the same as those above, there were those who responded normally there were sometimes disputes. Just how should respond to the differences wisely, because the principle of differences in understanding the concept of theology is normal. Hassan Hanafi, a professor at Cairo University, argued that one of his arguments was that he tried to criticize traditional theology which, according to him, was too central to theological theology. According to him, traditional theology is too monotonous, only talking about the affairs of the "heaven" even though we live in the world with our fellow humans. So that theology should not merely discuss God\u27s affairs and eschatological matters

This paper discusses the dimensions of the pilgrimage tradition that is commonly practiced by the community. Pilgrimage is not only seen as an activity to pray for people who have died, but in it there are varied moral values. There are no specific time provisions for making pilgrimages. However, it is different from the Majapura village community who make the pilgrimage at the end of the sya’ban month (before Ramadan). Uniquely, they do this together and at the same time do community service by cleaning the tomb. Based on these phenomena, this study aims to reveal the motives and values of the practice of tomb pilgrimage using the method of phenomenological analysis of Edmund Husserl. The practice of pilgrimage and cleansing of the grave carried out by the Majapura community is part of an awareness of intentionality directed at one behavior that is in accordance with religious advice. From this awareness, the purpose of pilgrimage and tomb clean was addressed to cleanse the soul, remember death (dzikr al-maut) and others, mentioned above. While the transcendental essence that is around it is a sense of caring, compassion, empathy, and sincerity in worship

The practice of reciting asmā`ul-ḥusnā by certain groups is in most cases intended to be a form of afterlife-oriented worship. Seeing the practice more closely, as practiced by the customer of the Bank Wakaf Mikro this article argues that the practice indeed has in itself a formal-substantive part, that is the recitation of asmā`ul-ḥusnā. It also at the same time argues that the very practice serves as a means to generate social/cultural benefit for the performers. Furthermore, the practice observed in this research also finds its root on the prophetic hadith and thus a practice of living hadith. It shows that there has been a transmission and transformation of the hadith in both the text and content that results in, among others, the practice of reciting asmā`ul-ḥusnā by certain groups in a greatly varying way

This is descriptive, qualitative research that explains the practice of distancing the lines (ṣaff) in congregational prayers during the corona pandemic. This research employs phenomenological perspective to do the analysis on the data, particularly the interviews published in online media. Another side of the analysis is the inductive and deductive technique. This research focuses on the ways in which that practice is put into action, the underlying factors, and the impact it poses to the society, particularly the way they face the pandemic. It argues that the practice is a sort of realization of physical distancing to prevent the spreading of the virus and at the same time the real attempt of Indonesian Muslims to observe one of the principal goals of sharia, that is al-muḥāfaẓa ‘alā an-nafs

CORAK FEMINISME POST-MODERNIS DALAM PENAFSIRAN FAQIHUDDIN ABDUL KODIR

The debate about the interpretation of the Qur\u27an which is considered gender biased, continues to develop with diverse arguments. Women are considered as the aggrieved party in this negotiation. Women are considered as the second sex (second sex) and become subordinate men. As a result, women are the object of oppression for men. In the context of this debate, Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir came with a new argument in approaching religious texts that were considered gender biased. He introduced the method of qira> ’ah mubadalah to create a balanced relationship between men and women. Therefore, this study would like to explain the products produced by Faqihuddin with this method and find the patterns of feminist thought in several developing feminist theories. To achieve this goal, this study uses the structural exegesis method as an analysis tool to find the influence of interpretation of the text with the interpreter\u27s experience in the context that surrounds it. The method used by Faqihuddin to release women from the shackles of men with the muba method is by placing women in the position of men in verse narration, so that there is a reciprocal relationship. From the form of interpretation conducted by Faqihuddin, this study found that the reconstruction of the meaning that was carried out was basically driven by an effort to release the order of symbols in the text which was understood only in its literal form. This reflects the way that is usually done by post-modern feminists who mock each term that indicates the subordination of women to men

The Religious Freedom: Universalism Claim, Resistance of Islamic World, and Reconceptualization

    Get PDF
AbstractReligious freedom is one type of human rights which caused major resistance to the universalism claim of human rights in Muslim countries. This article attempted to describe why that resistance arose and how Islam should reconceptualize religious freedom. The religious freedom issues are important to be explored in the context of contemporary Islamic studies because its value and scope tended to be limited in the Islamic conservatism discourse. One of the issues is the fallacy in categorizing the apostasy (riddah)—a non-derogable right—verdicted as a blasphemy in Islam. By reconceptualizing the Islamic meaning of religious freedom, this study applied document analysis to enrich the contemporary Islamist studies, especially to postulate the significant relationship between Islam and human rights and to argue that Islam actually legitimized religious freedom as one of the non-derogable rights
