This paper presents the Center for Studies on the History of the University of Turin, from its inception to the activities carried out in the first thirty years, in collaboration with organizations, institutes, departments, and schools. It highlights the published volume series, such as Studi e Fonti (Studies and Sources), Lezioni e Inediti di Maestri (Lectures and unpublished works by Masters), the periodicals Quaderni di Storia dell’Università (History Notebooks) and Rivista di Storia dell’Università. Special attention is given to volumes published during the celebrations for the sixth centenary of the foundation and on special occasions, such as the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, the refusal of the Fascist oath in 1931, the racial laws of 1938, and the anniversaries of some illustrious professors and researchers who taught at the university and educated generations of scholars from XV to XIX centuries
Assuming that writers' web pages, as a response to the demands of modern communication, can represent significant research material, this article explores Olga Tokarczuk’s digital presence through two key websites: the one hosted by her publisher and the Olga Tokarczuk Foundation’s website. The author’s Wydawnictwo Literackie website is static, serving primarily as a promotional tool for the Nobel Prize’s publications, while the Foundation’s website is more dynamic, focusing on social and cultural initiatives and containing a database as well, conceived as an archive. I shall argue that both websites serve more traditional roles in showcasing Tokarczuk’s work rather than fostering direct engagement with her audience. Despite her celebrity status, Tokarczuk’s website presence reinforce her established public identity but doesn’t seem to align with an influencer model. This suggests that Tokarczuk’s approach is more focused on cultural discourse through her writing and actions than on shaping her persona through her websites.Assuming that writers' web pages, as a response to the demands of modern communication, can represent significant research material, this article explores Olga Tokarczuk’s digital presence through two key websites: the one hosted by her publisher and the Olga Tokarczuk Foundation’s website. Paesaggi naturali e digitali nelle azioni di "Kollektivnye Dejstvija": Il confine semiotico come ambiente percettivo e transmediale
The present article examines the aesthetic evolution of liminal spaces in the actions of the Moscow Conceptualist group Kollektivnye Dejstvija (Collective Actions), analysing them as material semiotic borders between different communicative domains. The initial Soviet phase of the group began in 1976, while in 1989 the collective broke up. In 1995, some of its members reunited under the name [KD], and they have remained active since then. The aim of the group is to understand the nature of art beyond any socio-political conditioning. Each of the actions involves the staging of a minimalist performance, attended by a group of selected spectators-participants; most of these events are enacted outdoors, with the Kievogorskoe pole—an untilled field on the outskirts of Moscow bordered by woods—representing the main setting in the Soviet phase. Since 1980, the group’s actions have been archived through the samizdat project Poezdki za gorod (Trips out of Town), of which fifteen volumes have been produced to date.
Marginal spaces prove to be particularly significant in the aesthetics of Kollektivnye Dejstvija, as their transcendence allows the artists and spectators-participants to access new theoretical and perceptual conceptualizations of reality. At the same time, semiotic borders appear as material sites where meaning is interpreted and creatively produced through sensorial dialogues with the artistic environment. While in the group’s initial phase the liminal zone is often represented by the woods separating the field of action from the ideologized urban area, since the late Eighties several digital devices have been used to amplify human possibilities of transcending conventional perception modes in the field of art. In my study, the material significance of semiotic borders in Kollektivnye Dejstvija’s actions is investigated through the theoretical frameworks of Timo Maran’s ecosemiotics and Giuliana Bruno’s research on projection in digital art.The present article examines the aesthetic evolution of liminal spaces in the actions of the Moscow Conceptualist group Kollektivnye Dejstvija (Collective Actions), analysing them as material semiotic borders between different communicative domains. Utopian ahiṃsā and the violence inherent in food in early Buddhism: Pāli texts vis-à-vis early Upaniṣads and Aśoka edicts
The present contribution aims to analyse some early Buddhist tenets in the Suttanipāta (verses: 220-221). According to this text, the layman cannot fully practise ahiṃsā (non-violence / non-harmfulness) while, in contrast, the monk always protects animals; the layman never being equal to a monk due to the latter’s meditative practice. The study will explore how violence is inextricably connected with food through the analysis of some of the stages presented in the Sāmaññaphalasutta’s Buddhist path of liberation and the foundational myth in the Aggaññasutta. These two texts will be confronted with Upaniṣadic evidence to contextualise these ideas in a broad Indian ascetic milieu. Finally, we will investigate how the Suttanipāta’s principle, according to which the monk always protects animals, has been assimilated and utilised by King Aśoka Maurya, with a particular reference to the Rock Edict 1
Sacrifices gone wrong: Precautions, consequences, damage control
In many cultures, sacrifices are such an important aspect of the social life, that their ratio has been widely scrutinized and subjected to innumerable theories. In my paper I will tackle the problem from the viewpoint of the possible failure of the ritual. All human actions can go wrong, of course, but the failure of a sacrifice can be so dangerous that the rules of its performance constitute no less than an entire science; in ancient Vedic religion, in particular, the sheer amount of texts concerning the exact circumstances, modalities, instruments etc. which must be considered before undertaking the ritual is evidence of the seriousness of the issue and of the fear that something might go wrong. We find very similar concerns in ancient Greek and Latin documents, which confirm that in sacrificial cultures, in spite of their deep differences, the components of the ritual have to be carefully handled in order to avoid catastrophic consequences. In animal sacrifice, of course, a considerable part of the precautions regard how the victims must be handled and killed. As many indologists have argued, it is possible that the notion of ahiṃsā itself arises within this context, as a way of ensuring that, by not "really" harming the animal, its immolation will cause no harm to the sacrificer and, more generally, to the community. My paper will deal respectively with: 1) the precautions to be taken beforehand; 2) the imagined consequences of a failure; 3) the means through which these consequences can be "fixed". The analysis might give some insights about the way in which the Indian sacrificial religion has shaped the relationship between humans and animals, which is, in its turn, a relevant part of the ethical assumptions operating in that part of the world
The flight of the antelope: Outlining two different perspectives on the aesthetic reception of a verse from Kālidāsa’s Abhijñānaśākuntala
This article will explore the aesthetic reception of a verse from the first act of Kālidāsa’s Abhijñānaśākuntala as evidenced by the works of Kuntaka, Abhinavagupta and Rāghavabhaṭṭa. In doing so, this research critically examines the problem of how this one verse, which describes an antelope fleeing from Duṣyanta during his hunt, was employed as an example to illustrate two very different models of aesthetics: one which implicitly accepted that animal characters could evoke rasa and another which aimed to explicitly exclude animals from such a possibility
Understanding political violence in culture: Critical reflections on trauma theory and contemporary Arabic literature
This article deals with the question of adequate approaches to the study of trauma representations in contemporary Arabic literature. After a critique and further development of trauma theories and concepts that are still frequently used today (Caruth, Alexander, PTSD), the article develops its own analytical framework that focuses on the political and ideological implications of writing about trauma. The aim is to better grasp the interactions between the individual, social and cultural spheres of trauma dynamics and situations. On the basis of an ethics of reading, the article argues for a (re)contextualizing approach to literary texts in which the political dimensions are captured as comprehensively as possible without reducing literature to a socio-political text
INTRODUCTION
Currently in Italy procedures for auditory neonatal screening are not similar among different regions, due to no universal and standardized methods. The aim of this report is to identify existing protocols across Italy and their application.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
An online survey was administered to audiometric technicians working in the national territory. Sampling was of convenient, carried out through most used social platforms and created using computer tools by italian audiometric technicians. A descriptive statistical analysis of obtained data was subsequently carried out.
RESULTS
168 audiometer technicians participated in the survey. Protocols suggested by JCIH are the most used by audiometricians: in 100% of italian territory at birth points the method involving execution of OAE is adopted and in intensive therapies a-ABR method is used. Analysis of questionnaire responses shows that 64% of them are involved in neonatal audiological screening: 55% at birth points; 46% at neonatal intensive care. Most used methods in healthy and long-term births are otoacoustic emissions (OAE), (51%); in infants with risk factors in intensive therapy is a-ABR, (65%). The results show that not all audiometric technicians are involved in the screening and often other healthcare professionals. are performing the procedures. Different instrumental methodologies are used to investigate hearing function, not only between regions but also between hospitals belonging to the same region. In addition, there are differences in the adoption of the protocols suggested by the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing, in different healthcare institutions.
CONCLUSIONS
In almost all the Country, the results of audiological neonatal screening are collected not only by different methods, but also for different professionals from one region to another. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of define modalities and actors in the health sector involved in the prevention of neonatal hearing disorders.INTRODUZIONE
RISULTATI
Hanno partecipato all’indagine 168 tecnici audiometristi.
