The Shift Towards Social Media and Complimenting Crisis Communication Strategies for Business
The following thesis will surround social media and its impact on crisis communication. It will also aim to compile the most useful strategies businesses can implement when they are struggling with a social media crisis. To do so, the shift towards social media will be discussed, specifically why it poses an issue on businesses when involved in online crises. The topic of social media’s impact on crisis communication, as well as updated social media crisis communication research, will also be a topic in this paper. An incident from 2017 surrounding a United Airlines social media crisis (Chapter 4) will be used to exemplify how businesses should not respond to a social media crisis. The strategies listed in Chapter 5 are backed by multiple sources and were compiled in hopes of helping businesses deal with online crises in the future. There is a current need for social media crisis communication findings, as technology quickly advances faster than research available to the business world
The College Suicide Crisis: A Student\u27s Story in Context
Throughout the past decade, mental health challenges of college students have been a concern across the nation. Due to the overwhelming stress and pressure put on today\u27s students, suicides on college campuses have become more common, even in Worcester. Within the past year six have died by suicide. Colleges around the area have been attempting to provide extra resources for students who show mental health concerns. However, one of the best ways to learn about the mental struggles of students is by learning from the students themselves. While I spent time in an emergency mental health ward, I was able to create a poem that depicted my suicidal ideation formed within the past year. This piece of writing was created in hopes that a student\u27s perspective of mental health struggles will inspire others to act and consider new initiatives to stop student suicides from occurring

The Leaky Pipeline of Women in STEM
Women make up more than half of biology-related doctoral degrees yet are still underrepresented in the faculty and higher-level positions of this field. This disparity is referred to as the leaky pipeline problem and exists in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) field. The goal of the research paper is to bring the leaky pipeline problem to the forefront and analyze solutions that can address it. This thesis will address the impacts of gender biases that people experience through childhood, adolescence, and high school into college and contribute to the lower retention of women in science. It will also investigate challenges women face while in academia that may cause them to leave and will conclude with a proposed solution to this leaky pipeline problem
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome and Female Military Recruits
Upon entering the military recruits are challenged physically, this is exceptionally difficult for women as their anatomy predisposes them to more impact injuries than men. Female military recruits are placed at a higher risk for shin splints, a repetition injury known in the medical field as medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS). This review paper explores studies about MTSS, its prevalence, and expression in military recruits, particularly as its expression differs across gender. This paper will cover how the external environment of boot camp results in a higher prevalence of MTSS than the general population and how increased occurrence of MTSS in females has been attributed to specific physical attributes. This includes smaller tibial cross-sectional dimensions, greater than average hip range of motion, and differences in lower extremity mechanics during running and other repetitive physical activities. The external environment of boot camp coupled with these intrinsic factors highlight the importance of providing running education for women prior to arrival at boot camp and designing training regiments that account for these physiological differences
