    This literature review seeks to contribute information on what is already known about the neurological effects of DHA omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (DHA O3PUFAs) and curcumin, and compare the two substances’ abilities to clear ß-amyloid and alleviate the pathophysiological burden posed by ß-amyloid accumulation. Learning about what natural dietary substances increase β-amyloid clearance has possible implications for improving the conditions of the millions of people living with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) in terms of increasing life expectancy, creating a healthier way of life, and coming closer to eventually finding a cure

    This research paper stands to prove that celebrities are no longer simply revered only for their talents or skill but have begun to outgrow the natural fame that comes with the skill, and/or have become famous for really no apparent or tangible reason at all, or possibly that there is now a new definition of celebrity. Their fame has worked in a cycle, famous for being famous. I will set out to prove the following: they continue their fame through the efforts of clever marketing. They use new or improved marketing tactics to further build their personal brands, create connections with fans, and continue to sustain their fame. They seem to use social media as the main medium, along with endorsement tactics for their own brand and brand extensions. They also use their social media in a unique way that allows them to create connections with their audiences in a way that most firms have not begun to think about. Celebrities work on building their own brands using marketing and fame hand-in-hand. Is this a new type of fame? How does their fame affect or work with their marketing efforts? How does social media affect this phenomenon? It is important to understand what celebrities, and the firms they create are doing, so that other firms can utilize the effective techniques to market their products. It is clear that this kind of promotion is an emerging trend, so it is important to fully understand it in order to apply it to other products and brands. This research is relevant because it examines a casual and less serious pop culture phenomenon such as Kim, and asks a pressing question: why is she famous? This paper will delve into a more scholarly explanation behind a cultural trend and explain how other companies can benefit from these lessons on the branding of fame

    The Cool and Deliberate Sense of the Community : \u3cem\u3eThe Federalist\u3c/em\u3e on Congress

    The American civic canon holds that the Constitution creates three branches of government that are both separate and “equal.” Publius’s essays on Congress cast serious doubt on this supposition, at least with respect to the extent of each branch’s influence on the workings of the national regime. It is no mistake that both the Constitution and The Federalist treat Congress as the first branch of government. It is “justly regarded” as such, Louis Fisher says, primarily because of the appropriations power elucidated in Federalist 58. The Federalist understands Congress, George W. Carey writes, “to be the heart of the proposed system.” Even the doubts and concerns that Publius expresses about Congress reflect regard for its authority. Federalist 51, for example, acknowledges that the legislature “necessarily predominates” (Fed. 51, 350) in a republic, but it also seeks a remedy for the “inconveniency” this poses to the separation of powers. Institutionally, Congress has the power both to constitute and discipline the other branches, which have no comparable authority over it. Even when defending executive energy, Publius describes it as secondary to legislative deliberation. The centrality of the legislative branch is demonstrable not only institutionally but also theoretically, for it is here that Publius places his greatest hopes for solving one of his most fundamental problems: the reconciliation of a government with sufficient authority and energy on the one hand, with the preservation of both public and personal liberty, on the other – a concern that Hamilton and Madison respectively expressed in Federalist 1 and 37

    How Prior Testing Impacts Misinformation Processing: A Dual-Task Approach

    Research suggests that testing prior to the presentation of misinformation influences how that misinformation is processed. The present study examined the relationship between testing, the demands of misinformation narrative processing, and memory for original and post-event information. Using response latencies to a secondary task, we tested whether prior testing influenced the available resources for secondary task processing. Additionally, we investigated whether changes in narrative processing were specific to critical details tested earlier. Participants engaged in an eyewitness memory paradigm in which half were tested prior to receiving the post-event narrative. Participants responded to the secondary task at specified time points during the narrative. All participants took a final memory test after listening to the post-event narrative. We found that testing interacted with the placement of the secondary task. When responding on the secondary task was closely linked to the presentation of previously tested critical details in the narrative, retrieval-enhanced suggestibility was reduced on tests of event memory (Experiment 1) and increased post-event information learning was revealed on tests of narrative memory (Experiment 2)

    For the purposes of this study, I will be focusing on three highly popular and often controversial female superheroes: Wonder Woman, Black Widow and Captain Marvel. My argument is not that these three characters are defined by the stereotypes under which they were created (though many female heroes and villains are purely archetypal and have barely any other defining personality traits, such as Harley Quinn). Instead, Wonder Woman, Black Widow, and Captain Marvel have, in some way or another, all been treated as a villain, victim or vixen at multiple points in their comic histories, which only leads them to continuously fulfill those limited roles within their narratives, even in their respective films

    Self-Organization of Cosmic Elements During Stellar Evolution

    An open question in science is how complex systems self-organize to produce emergent structures and properties. One aspect is to find the dependence of structure and organization on the size of a system. It has long been known that there is a quality-quantity relationship in natural systems, which is to say that the properties of system depend on its size. More recently, this has been termed the Size-Complexity Rule. In this Thesis paper, we study the average rates of nucleosynthesis and action efficiency of stars with varying initial metallicities and explosion energies from simulations (Nomoto, Tominaga, Umeda, Kobayashi, & Maeda, 2006) based on the Stellar Abundances for Galactic Archaeology database (Suda et al., 2008). Our goal is to study the size-complexity relation in stars of varying metallicities and explosion energies and to compare them with other complex systems. Here, as a measure of complexity of a star, we are using the grouping and approximate number of reactions of nucleons into heavier elements, because they increase the variety of elements and changes the structure of the star. Then we calculate the average rate of grouping of nucleons by multiplying each of them by their level of grouping, defined as how many of them are joined into a nucleus, and then divide by the lifetime of the star over which these isotopes were synthesized. As seen in our previous work, complexity, as measured by action efficiency grows exponentially in time and as a power law of all other characteristics of a system, including its size. Here we find that, as for the other systems studied, the complexity of a star in terms of grouping of its elements and the rate of increase of complexity is a power law of its size despite differing explosion energies and initial metalicities. As shown by these stars, the bigger a system is, the higher the levels of complexity it can reach even if the initial metallicity and explosion energy are different. This is seen in how each star’s progress, average rate, flow, and action efficiency of nucleosynthesis dramatically increase as a function of their initial number of nucleons. Our goal is to find how universal the size-complexity relation is, and whether there are any exceptions. We are planning to study other systems to find whether they obey the same rule and, as stellar evolution simulations improve, to study in detail not just the average rate, but the instantaneous rate of nucleosynthesis

    America, the Republican Nation: A Response to Critics of the Nation-State

    Dedication to America’s national form is not about the thoughtless valorizing of one’s own that is so often at the heart of uglier forms of nationalism. It is about an understanding of the critical role played by size, scope, and dimensionality in the creation of stable and secure communities, the emergence of a citizenry attached to the public good, the rule of reasoned law, the preservation of diversity and minorities, and political transparency and accountability, the very things that critics of the nation tacitly seek to preserve. Critics of the national form thus fail to appreciate the conditions necessary to preserve the rights they claim to cherish. They also fail to understand that the ability to grasp the virtues of the national form, defend their preservation, and respect their power does not require being a liberal or a conservative. Nor does it require a chauvinistic defense of America’s past, or even patriotism. It simply requires an openness to the axioms of the new science of civic republicanism and the ability to see that the type of regime that is desired will determine certain features that it must entail in order for it to exist and persevere. To be sure, America has been indispensable to the cause of human liberty at home and abroad over the past two centuries. But it is its science of civic republicanism—the self-conscious articulation of this political physics—as much as its unique history, that makes America such an indispensable nation
