Formative assessment strategies. Basic education teachers’ perception
process, as it allows us to adjust teaching practice according to the
needs of students and to promote meaningful learning. Its research
takes on special relevance due to the strong pedagogical influence it
exerts on the optimization of educational quality. For this reason, it
is necessary to know the teachers' perception of the degree of application
of certain strategies. Thus, this research seeks: (i) to know the
perception of basic education teachers on the frequency with which
they develop different strategies linked to formative assessment in
the classroom; and (ii) to analyze whether there are differences in
the frequency of use of these strategies according to gender, educational
stage in which they teach, years of teaching experience, training
received in assessment, number of training activities carried out
and knowledge of the term formative assessment. A cross-sectional,
comparative, quantitative research was carried out with 713 basic
education teachers. The items on the use of strategies linked to
formative assessment from the #EvalFormEPESO questionnaire
were used. Differences between the variables studied were analyzed
using Student's t-tests and ANOVA. The results show that the use
of the strategies analyzed is above the mean values of the scale.
Moreover, statistically significant differences appear depending on
the variables studied, which show that these are influential in the
degree of use of these strategies. The conclusion is that there is a
need to strengthen teacher training and promote inclusive practices
for a coherent and equitable application of formative assessment in

Fecha de Lectura: 23-05-2025Active matter systems challenge traditional equilibrium physics by exhibiting emergent collective behavior driven by energy-consuming components. This thesis investigates the dynamics and fluctuation-response relations in confined bacterial suspensions, using Escherichia coli as a model system. We explore how confinement in emulsion droplets influences bacterial motility and how bacterial suspensions can self-organize into hyperuniform states. First, we study the motility of E. coli encapsulated in microfluidically generated emulsion droplets. Using epi-fluorescence microscopy and tracking algorithms, we analyze the influence of confinement on bacterial trajectories. Our results reveal that confinement and proximity to a fluid interface induce surface accumulation and modify the statistical properties of bacterial motion, providing evidence of time-reversal symmetry breaking in these systems. In a second phase, we combine experiments and simulations to investigate the selforganization of bacterial suspensions near solid surfaces. By analyzing their spatial distribution in quasi-two-dimensional confinement, we demonstrate that collective bacterial motion leads to long-range density correlations and suppressed fluctuations, hallmarks of hyperuniform states. By computing the number variance, we characterize the transition to these unexpectedly ordered states, highlighting the crucial role of hydrodynamic interactions and boundary effects. Our findings reveal that confined active suspensions at different scales exhibit nontrivial deviations from classical fluctuation-response relations, emphasizing their inherently out-ofequilibrium nature. These results contribute to the broader understanding of active matter physics and may have implications for the design of bioinspired materials and microscale transport system

Hippocampal rejuvenation by a single intracerebral injection of one-carbon metabolites in C57BL6 old wild-type mice
The Izpisua-Belmonte group identified a cocktail of metabolites that promote partial reprogramming in cultured muscle cells. We tested the effect of brain injection of these metabolites in the dentate gyrus of aged wild-type mice. The dentate gyrus is a brain region essential for memory function and is extremely vulnerable to aging. A single injection of the cocktail containing four compounds (putrescine, glycine, methionine and threonine) partially reversed brain aging phenotypes and epigenetic alterations in age-associated genes. Our analysis revealed three levels: chromatin methylation, RNA sequencing, and protein expression. Functional studies complemented the previous ones, showing cognitive improvement. In summary, we report the reversal of various age-associated epigenetic changes, such as the transcription factor Zic4, and several changes related to cellular rejuvenation in the dentate gyrus (DG). These changes include increased expression of the Sox2 protein. Finally, the increases in the survival of newly generated neurons and the levels of the NMDA receptor subunit GluN2B were accompanied by improvements in both short-term and long-term memory performance. Based on these results, we propose the use of these metabolites to explore new strategies for the development of potential treatments for age-related brain diseasesWork in the laboratory of JA is funded by grants from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (PGC2018–09177-B-100) and PID2021-123859OB-100 from MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/FEDER, UE. Cyanobacterial connectivity from freshwater to estuaries: insights into genotypes and cyanotoxins flow
Cyanobacterial blooms are detrimental events that affect the quality of water and the normal functioning of ecosystems, especially when dominated by toxin-producing species. Although cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins have been reported in the land-sea interface since the late 80s, genetic evidence on how inland freshwaters influence the cyanobacterial communities in these systems is very scarce to date. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the cyanobacterial communities of an inland freshwater reservoir and an estuary located in an aquaculture-rich coastal area of NW Spain. During 2022 and 2023, a total of six sampling campaigns were carried out surrounding the blooming seasons. Cyanobacterial communities and their potential toxicity were analyzed through metabarcoding of the 16S rRNA gene and PCR-based screening of genes involved in the biosynthesis of cyanotoxins. Results demonstrate that the reservoir likely contributed significantly to the presence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria in the estuary, with more than 80 % of reservoir shared cyanobacterial ASVs (Amplicon Sequence Variants) belonging to potentially toxic genera. Genes related to microcystins and anatoxins were detected in both systems, accompanied by low toxin concentrations. Most key cyanobacterial genera were consistently dominated by specific ASVs, suggesting the presence of a few genotypes resistant to environmental gradients during transport. These findings highlight the influence of freshwater systems on estuarine cyanobacterial communities and demonstrate the potential of genetic tools for their high-resolution monitoring, useful in water management of ecological and economic risks. Further research is recommended to understand the global impacts of cyanobacterial bloom dispersion towards land-sea interface systems, particularly in economically relevant areasThe authors would like to thank the EU, the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation for funding, in the frame of the collaborative international consortium AIHABs financed under the ERA-NET AquaticPollutants Joint Transnational Call (GA N ◦ 869178). Mechanically interlocked nanotubes as recyclable catalysts for Knoevenagel condensation
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are a very attractive platform to build heterogeneous catalysts, benefiting from their intrinsic high surface area and their insolubility. Here, we show that SWNTs encapsulated within organic macrocycles to form mechanically interlocked rotaxane-type species (MINTs), are a good building block to graft basic nitrogenous moieties for the catalysis of the Knoevenagel condensation. The installation of the catalytically active groups is carried out after formation of the MINTs, following a modular approach. Through this chemical modification strategy, we obtain very active MINT catalysts (TOF in the range of 900–9000 h−1). The interlocked catalysts can be recycled for at least five times by simple filtration and washing, without any appreciable loss of activity. In comparison, supramolecular controls lacking the mechanical link between the active moiety and the SWNT cannot be recycled. From a general point of view, these results prove that formation of MINTs is an interesting strategy to link catalytic molecular moieties to SWNTs, enabling their use as heterogeneous catalysts and therefore facilitating the purification of the products and the recycling of the catalys
On luxury environmentalisms and emergency ecologisms
renovablesAlthough the ecological-social crisis has been clearly identified
for more than five decades, industrial societies’ response to it falls
drastically short of what is needed. We are witnessing a time of ruptures
and discontinuity, rapidly sliding towards eco-social collapse. Capitalism
is appropriating resources on a global scale, and the socio-ecological costs
are also externalised across the globe: ultimately, the Earth in its entirety is
being turned into a sacrifice zone. The search for luxury solutions continues,
when what we need are emergency exits; hence, the two concepts of luxury
environmentalisms and emergency ecologisms capture part of what is happening
in contemporary conflicts, such as those related to renewable energy
