Multiple phase transitions in ethanol thin films obtained by physical vapor deposition
This article investigates the crystallization of glassy ethanol into a plastic crystal and ultimately into a monoclinic crystal. Ethanol glasses were created by physical vapor deposition (PVD) of ethanol molecules as thin films onto a cooled, gold-coated copper substrate in a high-vacuum chamber, at temperatures below ethanol glass transition temperature (Tg = 97 K). The films, about 1 μm thick, were analyzed using a two-beam laser interferometer to determine their thickness and density. FTIR spectrometry was used to characterize different ethanol phases over a temperature range close to the glass transition and melting points. Results show that varying densities of solid ethanol form with changes in condensation temperature, reaching maximum density around 110 K. When deposition occurs above Tg, a crystalline phase called “plastic crystal” forms. However, PVD glasses deposited at temperatures slightly below Tg exhibit an increase in the devitrification temperature (Ton), suggesting that these samples form moM.A.R. acknowledges financial support from MCIN /AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 by the grant PID2021-127498NB-I00, as well as through the “María de Maeztu” Program for Units of Excellence in R&D (CEX2018-000805-M)
Pero se trata de un tipo peculiar de norma que demanda un nuevo entendimiento de las consecuencias de su ilegalidad ante la relevancia de la participación públicaThe regulatory nature of urban development plans has been called into question because of the rigid effects of the nullity of such instruments applied by case law and the large number of plans that have been annulled. A broad sector of the doctrine advocates a mixed nature of the plans, identifying elements that have a resolutory nature, seeking their possible correction if they incur in illegalities. In contrast, this paper argues for the unique nature of the plans as regulatory norms. But it is a peculiar type of regulation that demands a new understanding of the consequences of its illegality in view of the relevance of public participatio
MoS₂-DNA tetrahedral bioconjugate for high-performance DNA biosensors: Application in viral infection diagnostics
An electrochemical DNA biosensor is presented for early viral infection detection, integrating molybdenum disulphide (MoS₂), tetrahedral DNA nanostructures (TDNs), and thionine-modifed carbon nanodots (CNDsTy). The innovation of this work lies in the frst-time integration of these nanomaterials for the preparation of a bioconjugate, whose synergy enables the biosensor’s functionality. MoS₂ anchors the TDNs, which carry the capture probe for virus identifcation via genetic code recognition. CNDsTy allow the electrochemical detection based on their diferent afnity for single-stranded (ssDNA) and double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), enabling hybridization event identifcation. The biosensor achieves high sensitivity (detection limit of 5.00 fM) and can distinguish viral loads, validated with the SARS-CoV-2 ORF1ab sequence in human nasopharyngeal samplesThis work has been financially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (PID2020-116728RB-I00, RED2022-134120-T and PID2023-150844OB-I00), Community of Madrid (REACT-UE NANOCOV-CM) and Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (TED2021-129738B-I00). Exceptional preservation in mayfly nymphs (Insecta: Ephemeroptera) from the Early Cretaceous of the Las Hoyas fossil site
The present study focuses on a group of macroinvertebrates that have played an important role in past and present lentic ecosystems: the Ephemeroptera. The study analyses the diversity, relative abundance, taphonomic alterations and fossilisation patterns of the Las Hoyas nymphs. The objective is to investigate the factors that may contribute to the presence of soft tissues in fossils with poor corporeal preservation. In accordance with this, only three morphotypes of the Leptophlebiidae family and one of the Euthyplociidae family have been characterised. However, the ultrastructural details of digestive and respiratory tissues have been documented, including the digestive canal, the shape of the gills, tracheoles, chloride cells, and importantly, in situ bacteria in cytokinetic stages located at the hindgut. The nymphs were fossilised in a variety of ways, including carbonaceous films, mineralised casts, and impressions. The nymphs that have been fossilised as composite moulds (Type III) and carbon films (Type II) tend to be larger in size. However, their bodies are rather well-preserved and show less soft tissue remains than those of the nymphs that have been preserved as impressions (Type I) and mineralised phosphorus casts (Type IV). These latter nymphs are smaller in size, and their bodies are poorly preserved. However, they show a greater variety of soft tissue details. This bias suggests an interesting link to environmental factors differentiating watered and flooding from microbial mat binding conditionsThis work was supported by the Spanish Research Program Ministerio de Ciencia Investigación y Universidades [PID2019-105546GB-I00], updated to [PID2023-147427NB-I00], Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, Spain; Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil [E-26/200. 828/2021], and Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, Brazil [CNPq 303596/2016-3]; Alba Sánchez-García of MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Spain and the European Union “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR [RYC2021-032907-I]
The development of number sense and intuition for large numbers in kindergarten: On the way to one hundred
The activities aim to support meaningful engagement with "large" numbers up to 100, while deepening students' understanding of the decimal number system. We use manipulative and visual scaffolding and implement the activities through number talks, promoting mathematical processes such as communication and representation. Classroom methodology seeks to integrate deep and well-connected mathematical knowledge, centered on important mathematical ideas that facilitate the transition to Primary Education, with a responsive pedagogical approach that respects and supports children's developmental need

Influence of premenstrual syndrome on attentional capture by expressions in the luteal phase
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is characterized by its high incidence and the presence of negative emotional symptoms during the luteal phase. While various studies suggest that the menstrual cycle affects emotional processing, the role of PMS has barely been investigated. Prior evidence suggests that the menstrual cycle does not modulate the attentional capture by emotional faces. Building on this, the present study explores whether PMS may influence this process. To this end, forty-seven women performed an attentional capture task during both phases of the menstrual cycle, with emotional faces serving as distractors. Both behavioral performance and Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) were recorded. Additionally, premenstrual symptoms were monitored over two menstrual cycles. Results showed no significant interaction effect of PMS, either at the behavioral or ERP levels. However, emotional stimuli, particularly angry faces, consistently captured attention more than neutral ones, as reflected in enhanced P1 and N170 components. These results indicate no evidence that PMS modulates exogenous attention to emotional stimuli. Future studies should consider individual affective states, such as depressive and anxiety symptoms associated with PMS, rather than PMS as a category, to further investigate the potential effects of PMS on attentional captureThis research was supported by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades of Spain (Grants no. A ver (si): diacronía de un marcador del discurso en español
In this work, the diachronic perspective is used to explain the coexistence in current Spanish of three constructions: a) syntactic structures like a ver (si) + complement, integrated into the sentence framework, b) non-sentence fragments like a ver and c) independent structures, like a ver si + sentence complement. Outside the sentence framework, both non-sentence fragments and independent sentences fulfil pragmatic values (interactive) or discursive values (favoring the construction of discourse). To carry out this diachronic investigation, we start from the syntactic insubordination hypothesis (cf. Evans 2007; Evans/Watanabe 2016), assuming that independence structures are the result of their insubordination from the governing nucleus of the sentence framework. In the first place, according to the documentation provided by the Corpus del Diccionario histórico de la lengua española (CDH), it is verified when the integrated syntactic structures like a ver (si) + complement, which we call experimentation structures, begin to be documented and when they stabilize in the language. The body of documents is subsequently reviewed to verify the first cases of syntactic insubordination and to verify how these syntactic independence processes end up being conventionalized and start to function as procedural marks with pragmatic and discursive valu
Por último, la Educación Física y la actividad física en edad escolar no colaboran en la inclusión social de la mayoría de los participantesThis study aims to analyse the influence of physical and sporting activities orientations on the social inclusion of people with disabilities who practice physical and sporting activities. 7 case studies participants with disabilities who practice physical and sporting activities are involved, each representing one of the proposed physical and sporting activities orientations, 21 relatives of these, 129 disabled physical and sporting activities practitioners from all orientations and 255 relatives of these, forming a total of 412 participants. The disabilities of physical and sporting activity practitioners are physical, intellectual and sensory in different numerical representation. A mixed quantitative-qualitative methodology is applied, using techniques such as observation (via a field diary) of the 7 case studies during the practice of physical and sporting activities, interviews with the 7 case studies and their 21 relatives, and a survey (via a mixed questionnaire based on questions from the PASIPD, BPAQ-MI and ABPEF questionnaires) to the remaining 384 participants. The results obtained in the field diary and in the interview are analyzed and treated through 8 established categories of analysis. The results obtained in the questionnaire are analyzed and treated with a Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient (0.942), with univariate analysis (descriptive non-parametric statistics) using measures of central tendency and dispersion, as well as with multivariate analysis using Cramer's V statistic, the Friedman test and the Kruskar-Wallis test, using hierarchical clustering o K means for both analyses. The conclusions indicate that Healthy physical activity and high-performance sports more significantly benefit a person with a disability who practices physical and sporting activity. Subsequently, semi-professional sport, grassroots sport and recreational physical activity have conditions that may provide greater facilities for being closer to inclusion than to social exclusion, although there are possibilities that such conditions may be obstacles. Finally, Physical Education and physical activity at school age do not contribute to the social inclusion of the majority of participant
