Unveiling emerging trends and gaps in scientific research on vertebrate biodiversity in tropical savannahs
Savannahs are among the most threatened ecosystems in the world due to the rapid change in their land use for forestry, soybean cultivation, and pasture. However, savannahs are less studied than tropical forest ecosystems despite this intense anthropogenic pressure. As such, here we investigate the gaps and trends in scientific research on terrestrial vertebrates in tropical savannahs, via a systematic search for scientific articles on the Web of Science platform. Subsequently, to identify the geographic distribution of the studies, we divided the total number of articles by the area of the Savannah biome (in km2) that occurs in each country. Our results show that Africa has a deficit in scientific research on terrestrial vertebrates compared to Oceania and South America, and that this global trend in the distribution of studies is closely related to the Human Development Index. We also identified land use change and fire dynamics as the most studied drivers of biodiversity loss, while invasive species and climate change were the least well studied. Finally, our research revealed that about 80% of the articles focused on mammals and birds, and that phylogenetic and functional diversity were the least studied dimensions of vertebrate biodiversity in tropical savannahs. These results are concerning for conservation efforts, as they reveal not only a substantial geographic gap but also a limited and biased understanding of savannah biodiversityThis work was supported by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa doEstado do Amazonas (01.02.016301.005462/2024-32); Coordenação deAperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (88881.934045/2024-01); Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (BG22/00121,CA3/RSUE/2021- 00197, and RYC2023- 045231-I); and the NationalGeographic Society (NGS-96963R-22
TAF1-dependent transcriptional dysregulation underlies multiple sclerosis
Characterization of electrophysiological mechanisms underlying ventricular fibrillation through spatio-temporal and spectral analyses of electrical and optical cardiac potentials

Review article: Classic bismuth quadruple therapy for helicobacter pylori infection—questions focused on clinical practice
Background: Classic bismuth quadruple therapy (BQT)—the combination of a proton pump inhibitor, bismuth, tetracycline, and metronidazole—is a standard regimen for treating Helicobacter pylori infection.
Aims: This review addresses practical questions regarding its current role in managing the infection.
Methods: A comprehensive bibliographic search was conducted to identify studies evaluating the efficacy, safety and optimiza-tion of BQT in different clinical contexts.
Results: BQT is a cornerstone of H. pylori eradication, combining agents with complementary mechanisms of action and main-taining high efficacy even in the presence of antibiotic resistance. Optimal acid suppression with a double proton pump inhibitor dose twice daily maximises therapeutic success. When tetracycline is unavailable, minocycline may serve as an alternative, whereas doxycycline is not recommended due to lower efficacy. Ten- day regimens achieve eradication rates comparable to 14- day courses, with similar or better tolerability. The three- in- one single- capsule formulation simplifies administration, enhances ad-herence, and maintains high efficacy (> 90%). BQT is endorsed as first- line therapy in most international guidelines, particularly in regions with clarithromycin resistance exceeding 15%, and remains the most reliable rescue option after failure of clarithro-mycin- or fluoroquinolone- based regimens. It is also the treatment of choice for patients with penicillin allergy. The regimen is generally well tolerated, with mostly mild, transient and gastrointestinal adverse events.
Conclusions: BQT remains the most effective, safe, and practical regimen for H. pylori eradication, ensuring high cure rates across diverse resistance patterns and clinical settings. Simplified formulations further improve convenience and adherence, reinforcing its role as a globally applicable therap
Micro-PIXE analysis of metal archaeological pieces from Torre Monreal necropolis
In 2019, the Torre Monreal necropolis was discovered in the urban centre of Tudela, in the north of Spain (Navarra). This Islamic necropolis has a great amount of graves with rich funeral's dowries, therefore it is of a high archaeological and historical interest. In this work, in order to determine the elemental concentration of different objects, mainly metallic pieces such as rings, earrings, necklaces, belt buckles, etc., have been analysed by Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) using the external microbeam line at CMAM (Centro de Microanálisis de Materiales in Madrid). Most of the metallic objects with a gilded look exhibit Au concentrations higher than 50 %, Ag and Hg levels close to 20 %, and low or trace concentrations of other elements such as Cu or Fe. The elemental concentration of these pieces has been compared with data from other Islamic piece from the Andalusian city, Qalat-Rabah (Calatrava la Vieja) collection which correspond to the same historic medieval period, 13th – 15th centuryThe authors would like to thank the technical staff of CMAM for operating the tandem ion-beam accelerator, and A. Gender, honour and violence: instrumentalisation of women in the factional struggles in Navarre (1450-1508)
estrategias llevadas a cabo por algunos linajes para atacar a los enemigosThe aim of this paper is to consider the instrumentalisation of women as a tool in the framework of the factional conflicts
between the Agramonteses and the Beaumonteses (1450-1508). To this end, the article will focus on a source of enormous wealth,
the memorial of grievances of the Agramonteses drawn up by the supporters of King John II against the Prince of Viana. This memorial,
whose complete study will be addressed here, is complemented with the study of other sources for the conflict, as well as with a
previous document related to the lordship of Escós. These examples will allow us to see how violence against women and the loss of
their honour, either through aggression or forced marriage, formed part, at different times, of the strategies applied by some lineages
to attack their enemiesEste trabajo se enmarca en el proyecto de investigación «Más allá de la palabra.

Understanding self-assembly across scales in BODIPY derivatives: from supramolecular aggregation in solution to optical-waveguiding crystalline materials
Molecular self-assembly constitutes a useful tool to construct discrete and functional nanostructures with well-defined properties. Nevertheless, understanding supramolecular order in solution and its transmission to the solid state for the same scaffold remains challenging and the impact of this transition in the properties of the resulting supramolecular architectures is still underexplored, thus limiting the application of self-assembly in fields like organic electronics. Herein we explore the supramolecular aggregation process of a chiral BODIPY derivative in solution, its features in solid state, and its potential application as optical waveguide. In solution, this derivative follows a time-dependent self-assembly process, ultimately leading to aggregates of increasing dimensionality with propensity to precipitate, from which a certain degree of crystallinity can be inferred. The subsequent formation of single crystals confirms the preservation of key supramolecular features from solution to the solid state. Notably, the one-centimeter-long crystals obtained present active optical waveguiding behavior in the NIR with a remarkable optical loss coefficient, the first optical loss reported for BODIPY crystals. These results highlight the value of studying self-assembly across different scales and demonstrate the potential of BODIPY-based systems for the development of optical waveguides with remarkable performanceD. Joint entropy search for multi-objective Bayesian optimization with constraints and multiple fidelities
Bayesian optimization (BO) methods can be used to solve efficiently problems with several objectives and constraints. Each objective and constraint is considered a black-box function that is expensive to evaluate, lacking a closed-form expression. BO methods use a model of each black-box to guide the search for the problem’s solution.
Specifically, they make intelligent decisions about where each black-box function should be evaluated next with the goal of finding the solution using a few evaluations only. Sometimes, however, the black-boxes may be evaluated at different fidelity levels. A lower fidelity is simply a cheap proxy for the corresponding black-box. These lower fidelities correlate with the actual black-boxes to optimize and can, therefore, be used to reduce the overall cost of solving the optimization problem. Here, we propose Multi-fidelity Joint Entropy Search for Multi-objective
Bayesian Optimization with Constraints (MF-JESMOC), a BO method for solving the aforementioned problems.
MF-JESMOC chooses the next point, and fidelity level at which to evaluate the black-boxes, as the combination that is expected to reduce the most the joint entropy of the Pareto set and the Pareto front, normalized by the fidelity’s evaluation cost. We use Deep Gaussian processes to model each black-box and the dependencies between fidelities. These are powerful probabilistic models that can learn the dependency structure among fidelity levels of each black-box. Several experiments show that MF-JESMOC outperforms other state-of-the-art methods for multi-objective BO with constraints and different fidelity levels in both synthetic and real-world problem
Hydrogen production from solid food waste by combined hydrothermal pretreatment and aqueous phase catalytic reforming
Production of sustainable hydrogen will play a key role as the main energy vector for the transition to a decarbonized economy. Of particular interest is the conversion of biomass into hydrogen, adding value to streams that would otherwise go unused. This study demonstrates efficient hydrogen production from orange juice extraction waste using hydrothermal pretreatment and aqueous-phase reforming. Key parameters_temperature, time, initial pH, and biomass concentration_were optimized using Ptbased catalysts (3−5 wt %) on carbon black with enhanced stability. The highest hydrogen yields were achieved under mild hydrothermal conditions (100−120 °C, 1 h), with ca. 1.0 g/L initial total organic carbon (TOCo) and pH 4. Increasing Pt loading not only improved the hydrogen yield but also increased catalyst deactivation. Under optimal conditions, 84% TOC conversion, 77% carbon conversion to gas, and 69 mmol H2/gTOCo were obtained, with hydrogen comprising 54% of the product gas. This integrated approach is promising for converting agroindustrial residues into clean hydrogenThis work was supported by the Ministry of Science and
