Coordinated Finite Multiverb Constructions in Spanish
This paper provides a detailed and comprehensive description of coordinated finite
multiverb constructions (CFMVCs) in Spanish, such as Pedro llegó y me gritó (‘Pedro
suddenly started yelling at me’, LIT: ‘Pedro arrived and yelled at me’) or María coge y se
va (‘María left abruptly’, LIT: ‘María takes and leaves’). Through an analysis of their syntactic
and semantic properties, their monopredicative nature is demonstrated, addressing concerns
raised in previous studies. It is argued that the primary value of CFMVCs is aspectual in
nature, specifically interruptive, although secondary values such as mirativity have developed in some varieties. Adopting a diachronic and comparative perspective, the gradual
grammaticalization process of these constructions is examined, showing different stages of
development depending on the dialect and the type of verb used. The results highlight the
importance of considering dialectal variation and grammaticalization processes in the study
of CFMVCs. Phenomena such as the lack of agreement between verbs and the fixed position
of the first verb in some varieties suggest a higher degree of grammaticalization. This article
aims to contribute to the understanding of CFMVCs in Spanish, laying the groundwork for
future typological and comparative studies with similar constructions in other languages.
The incorporation of data from various Spanish varieties has been fundamental to capturing
the dynamic and diverse nature of these constructions in the Spanish-speaking worldEste artículo presenta una descripción detallada y comprehensiva de las construcciones

History education: Past, present, and challenges for the future
This article reflects on present and past objectives of history education. Also, we analyze two main educational trends in history teaching and learning, historical thinking and historical consciousness. Different types of historical knowledge and historical narratives taught at schools are also considered as well as the impact that different educational objectives have on students learning. Finally, some challenges to improve history education in the future are presentedThis article has been developed within the framework of the project www.makinghistories.eu (Marie Curie Staff Exchanges Project 10108606), funded by the European Union and coordinated by M. European growth models and deindustrialization trajectories: the cases of Germany and Spain
This article investigates the deindustrialization process in Germany and Spain from 1995 to 2018. It is argued that the deindustrialization trajectories of each country are partially related to their growth models. A two-step analysis is conducted. First, using the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) input–output tables, a hierarchical structural decomposition analysis is applied, decomposing the manufacturing value-added share into five deindustrialization drivers: relative prices, income, investment, outsourcing, and international trade. Second, building on the growth model perspective, an interpretative framework to analyze the evolution of these drivers is presented. The interaction between institutions, aggregate demand, and the economic structure is explicitly considered in this framework. The comparison of the German and Spanish cases and the distinction between the pre and postcrisis periods illustrate the consequences of the distinct growth models (and the economic policies on which they are grounded) in structural change. The results suggest that deindustrialization trajectories in both countries are well-explained by their specific labor, financial, fiscal, and industrial policie
Incentives for green technology adoption and compliance under risk aversion and technological uncertainty
We study firms’ incentives to adopt environmentally friendly technologies in response to emission taxes, focusing on contexts characterized by imperfect compliance and risk aversion. Previous research has analyzed technology adoption incentives and compliance issues under the assumption of risk neutrality. However, the decision to exceed regulatory limits involves risks, as polluting agents may be subject to penalties with some probability. Additionally, there may be uncertainty regarding the impact of green technology adoption on firms’ abatement costs. Therefore, risk preferences may play an important role and should be taken into account. In a baseline model with certainty about future abatement costs, we find that adoption decisions are independent of risk preferences, even when the enforcement policy is so weak that it induces imperfect compliance. In contrast, un¬der uncertainty about future abatement costs, adoption incentives decrease with both risk aversion and weak enforcement, particularly when enforcement relies more on monitoring through higher inspection probabilities rather than deterrence through higher sanctionsFinancial support from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under research projects ECO2017-82449-P and PID2021-125155NB-100 is gratefully acknowledge
Crosstalk between NLRP3 signaling and histone deacetylases in inflammasome-driven diseases
The NLRP3 inflammasome is a validated therapeutic target in inflammatory, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases. Epigenetic regulators, particularly histone deacetylases (HDACs), have emerged as key modulators of inflammasome priming and activation. Recent advances in medicinal chemistry have provided new chemical modalities for the mechanistic interrogation and the potential therapeutic modulation of NLRP3 signaling. This Perspective dissects the mechanistic interface between HDAC-dependent epigenetic control and NLRP3 signaling and highlights emerging chemical tools, including isoform-selective inhibitors and targeted protein degraders. We discuss the challenges of isoform selectivity, species-specific differences, and the therapeutic potential of HDAC-based strategies to attenuate aberrant NLRP3 activity while minimizing off-target effects. Understanding this epigenetic-inflammasome crosstalk may provide a framework for translating epigenetic modulation into innovative treatments for inflammasome-driven diseasesThe work of F.K.H., M.G., and G.W. is funded by the DFG GRK2873 (494832089). Internet of Things (IoT) and environmental monitoring. A systematic literature review
The Internet of things (IoT) refers to the collection of physical devices
that receive and transfer data over wireless networks. This paper presents the most
important work using the IoT in environmental monitoring, specifically in the fields of
land use, forest management, agriculture, urban environments, and climate. The text
also examines how artificial intelligence (AI) enhances IoT systems by improving
data analysis and decision-making processes, which are crucial for effective environmental monitoring and management. The studies have mainly focused on the application of this technology in urban and agricultural environments where humans live
or where they derive the greatest economic benefit. The works generally value using
the IoT for environmental monitoring because this technology may potentially be
scaled up to permanently monitor many areas and improve environmental management. There are significant gaps in the practical application and existing studies
regarding the IoT and land use cover change. Therefore, it is necessary to determine
whether applying the IoT and improving its application for ongoing environmental
monitoring in areas of special interest or high risk is a worthwhile goa
