Orthorexia nervosa: Healthy habit or pathology? Experiences and expansion of the consciousness of the correct diet
Aim
Exploring the lived experience of women concerned about following a healthy and sustainable diet: subjectivity, ideas, descriptive concepts, and constitutive strategies.
Method
Based on the epistemological paradigm of phenomenology, the theoretical perspective of symbolic interactionism, and the methodological perspective of phenomenological reduction, a qualitative discourse analysis was performed through different strategies (thematic content analysis and interpretive phenomenological analysis, applying ad hoc techniques).
Findings
The phenomenological field of healthy eating intermittently unfolds in both experience and discourse, akin to a process of expansion and contraction, in the narrative “Expanding the Consciousness of Healthy Eating”. This encompasses two main themes: (1) Researching and Gathering Information, with the subthemes ‘Health Socialisation,’ ‘My Purchase: Assessing Food Reliability,’ ‘Moral Burden,’ and ‘Compensation as a Mechanism of Channelling Deviation’; and (2) Becoming Healthier, with the subthemes ‘Highlighting Benefits,’ ‘Marketing as a Pandemic Resource of Ideals,’ and ‘Is the Clinical Eye of the Family a Stigmatising Label?'.
Conclusion
The process of becoming healthier entails a struggle with the environment and with one's inner self. This struggle is open to the entire world and guided by the unalienable tenets of health, respectfulness, goodness, and beauty as ‘the only alternative’ to the suffering caused by a conventional die
AEDV Expert Document on the Management of Ulcerative Venereal Infections

Fluorescence sensing mechanism of contaminant Cu2+ in water by up-converting nanoparticles
The detection of Cu2+trace ions in water is significant due to their environmental implications and potential consequences for human health. Recent methods utilized up-converting nanoparticles, which emit visible light under near-infrared (NIR) radiation and offer the advantages of simplicity and high sensitivity in detection. Most of these studies are based on monitoring the decrease in the up-conversion emission intensity of suitable bands due to the adhesion affinity of Cu2+ions to specific coating molecules of such nanoparticles. In this work, we systematically investigated the evolution of excitation and emission spectra of NaYF4: Yb3+/Ho3+up-converting nanoparticles functionalized with branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI) as a function of Cu2+concentration in water. Hence, the most suitable fluorescence parameters (i.e., emission bands, excitation intensity and excitation wavelength) for Cu2+sensing have been determined. The most sensitive emission band (green emission of Ho3+) and the ratiometric sensitivity (ratio between the green and red Ho3+emissions) are explained through internal reabsorption of the Ho3+ion emitted bands by the Cu2+ions located in the BPEI coating of the nanoparticles. The detection range (up to 200 μM) is discussed in terms of the limited number of Cu2+ions that can be chelated by the PEI molecules at the nanoparticle surface. Thus, this work offers a novel overview to explain the Cu2+sensing mechanism by other fluorescent nanoparticlesThis work was financed by Grant PID2023-146775OB-I00 (INCLINA) funded by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033, by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (PI24/01535), by the Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (S2022/BMD-7403 RENIM-CM and TEC-2024COM-360 DISCO-6G-CM) and co-financed by the European structural and investment fund. The polarizability vector: A polarimetric observable for characterizing anisotropic nanoparticles
The optical properties of anisotropic nanoparticles (NPs) are often characterized by two principal components of their polarizability tensor. However, measuring them can be demanding as the phase of the scattered field needs to be detected. To address this challenge, I reveal a novel observable, the polarizability vector P, for characterizing the optical response of anisotropic NPs from a single-angle Stokes vector measurement. As I show, knowledge of P grants access to pivotal nanophotonics quantities, including the scattering cross-section, optical recoil torque, and near-field amplitude. I further generalize the approach to randomly dispersed NPs, showing that P, though defined at the single-particle level, fully captures their optical response. My findings pave the way for the optical characterization of anisotropic NPs using standard polarimetric instrumentationJ.O-T acknowledged financial support from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN), AEI, and FEDER (UE) through projects PID2022-137569NB. Variables influencing visitation decisions to conflict-ridden destinations: the effect of religiosity
The study analyses religiosity as an antecedent variable that influences perceptions of terror risk and animosity, which shape image and visitation intentions to conflict ridden-destinations. The investigation is carried out for two different destinations, Turkey and Israel, both of which suffer from an armed political conflict within their territory. To increase generalizability, the study examines the model of relationships using samples from two source countries, the U.S.A. and India, which represent a Western individualistic and non-Western collectivistic cultural context. The results indicate that religiosity increases terror risk perceptions and decreases animosity, while also indirectly influencing visitation decisions to conflict-ridden destinations. The model is stable for both destinations and across samples, despite some differences that are discussedThis work was supported by the Boğaziçi University Research Fund under grant 15322; and by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under grant [PID2020-114788RB-I00

Observer variation in the diagnosis of testicular sex cord-stromal tumors by a Genitourinary Pathology Society and International Society of Urological Pathology panel: Paving the way for a new classification
Artículo escrito por un elevado número de autores, solo se referencian el que aparece en primer lugar, el nombre del grupo de colaboración, si le hubiere, y los autores pertenecientes a la UAMThe diagnosis of sex cord-stromal tumors is challenging. They show a wide spectrum of behaviors and associations with clinically important pathogenic germline variants. In view of recent advances in molecular subtyping and risk factors, we wished to investigate the differences in diagnosis for a range of these tumors using expert genitourinary pathologists with an interest in this area. Forty-four tumors were selected, and 18 pathologists (members of TEsticular Sex cord-Stromal Tumor group) were invited to view the cases online and give a diagnosis. Consensus was taken as 70% agreement. Consensus was achieved in 59% (26/44) cases. However, there were many areas of disagreement, which included variability in the diagnosis of Sertoli cell and Leydig cell tumors, particularly in malignant lesions, and difficulty in the assignation of fibrothecomas or myoid gonadal stromal tumors, as well as variability in the diagnosis of granulosa cell tumors and in the diagnosis of rarer pediatric tumors. Pathologists placed different weights on positivity with some markers, particularly beta-catenin, S100, and SMA. Some pathologists diagnosed novel diagnostic entities, such as inflammatory and nested testicular sex cord tumors, not currently in the World Health Organization classification. Recommendations to assist in the construction of a new classification to achieve more concordance and better treatment of these rare tumors are include
Amber and the Cretaceous Resinous Interval
Artículo escrito por un elevado número de autores, solo se referencian el que aparece en primer lugar, el nombre del grupo de colaboración, si le hubiere, y los autores pertenecientes a la UAM.Amber is fossilized resin that preserves biological remains in exceptional detail, study of which has revolutionized understanding of past terrestrial organisms and habitats from the Early Cretaceous to the present day. Cretaceous amber outcrops are more abundant in the Northern Hemisphere and during an interval of about 54 million years, from the Barremian to the Campanian. The extensive resin production that generated this remarkable amber record may be attributed to the biology of coniferous resin producers, the growth of resiniferous forests in proximity to transitional sedimentary environments, and the dynamics of climate during the Cretaceous. Here we discuss the set of interrelated abiotic and biotic factors potentially involved in resin production during that time. We name this period of mass resin production by conifers during the late Mesozoic, fundamental as an archive of terrestrial life, the ‘Cretaceous Resinous Interval’ (CREI)This work was supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades [research agreement CRE CGL2017-84419 AEI/FEDER, UE] and by the Consejería de Industria, Turismo, Innovación, Transporte y Comercio of the Gobierno de Cantabria through the public enterprise EL SOPLAO S.L.
