Geological, mining-industrial and natural heritage in the Calatrava-Ciudad Real Volcanoes Geopark. Landscapes for environmental education and tourism
Sometimes, as in the geographical area under study, such volcanic manifestations lack activity, which, from the point of view of their interpretation, makes it difficult to redefine traditional uses, generally of an agricultural and mining nature, to accommodate other types of practices such as those mentioned above. The Calatrava-Ciudad Real Volcanoes Geopark Project is an example of territorial value enhancement and reactivation based on this type of singular resource located in an inland space (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain). The analysis and characterization of the affected territory, delimited by the figure of the Geopark, leads us to the discussion on the suitability of integrating the natural and landscape values of the environment, to consider the geographic diversity as a whole in terms of territorial heritage. In conclusion, the geological, mining-industrial and natural values of the area should not be articulated from its heritage segmentation, but understanding the geographic space as a whole, the landscape according to a global vision, betting on the local, environmental education and cultural tourism in a territorial visionEste trabajo se enmarca en el Proyecto SBPLY/23/180225/000025 Los paisajes culturales industriales y de infraestructuras en Castilla-La Mancha como base del desarrollo territorial. Legibility / readability in transcribed oral speech samples. A case study of pragmatic competence in people with trisomy 21

Moiré-Induced Enhanced Hydrogen Adsorption on Graphene
The periodic patterning induced by moir & eacute; superstructures enables the synthesis of spatially functionalized graphene surfaces owing to changes in the local reactivity of the material. However, quantitative characterization of the effect of different moir & eacute; patterns remains elusive. By exploiting the large number of moir & eacute; superstructures appearing on epitaxial graphene grown on a Pt(111) surface, this stud examines the effect of moir & eacute;-induced corrugation on the local reactivity toward hydrogenation. This work combines atomically resolved scanning tunneling microscopy alongside density functional theory and Monte Carlo simulations of hydrogen chemisorption. The findings reveal a more efficient hydrogen adsorption onto moir & eacute; patterns compared to flat graphene, with a marked selectivity toward the most topographically protruding areas of the moir & eacute;. This moir & eacute;-induced enhancement of the hydrogenation efficiency is slightly increased on the most corrugated structures, which also display longer residence times and a higher stability against thermal desorptionThe authors acknowledge financial support from the Spanish MICIN (grants PID2021-12509OA-I00, PID2023-149077OB-C31, TED2021-129416A-I00, TED2021-129999B-C31, RYC2024-049194-I, EUR2021-122006, and CNS2022-135658 funded byMCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”, by “ERDF/EU” and the “European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR”) and TEC-2024/TEC-459 project funded by the “Comunidad de Madrid” and cofinanced by European Structural Funds. Biomass conversion to renewable hydrogen by aqueous phase reforming based process
Valorisation of three residual biomasses to H2, produced in large scale in Brazil (Pequi, Baru and Cupuaçu husk),
was performed by both one-step and two-step APR approaches. One-step (direct) APR of solid biomasses yielded
up to 18 mmolH2/gCo at 46 % in gas. The two-step approach involved solubilisation of biomass by pretreatment
at different water-to-biomass ratio (W:B, 1000:1 and 10:1) and temperature followed by APR. After pretreatment
optimisation, the best APR results were observed for the hydrolysates obtained at W:B of 10:1, resulting in C
conversion of 72 %, and H2 production and concentration of ca. 53 mmol/gTOCo and 54 %, respectively.
Characterisation of used catalysts showed that deactivation is mainly related to formation of deposits. Although
the APR of hydrolysates obtained at low W:B (10:1) leads to higher formation of deposits, they are less evolved
solids than in the case of high W:B (1000:1) hydrolysates and seem to affect less catalytic activityThis work was supported by Ministry of Science and Innovation (Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, project HYDROCIRCLE, TED2021-130054B–I00). Relationship between heart rate variability and inflammation induced by physical exercise in a sedentary healthy population
Heart rate variability (HRV) evaluates autonomic nervous system (ANS) function, and in disease conditions a reduction in HRV is associated with inflammation.
We hypothesized an association between HRV and physical exercise-induced inflammation in healthy conditions. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between HRV and plasma cytokines before and after exercise, assessing the influence of sex. Sedentary young subjects (22 females, 16 males) underwent HRV evaluation through a chest band, at rest and 15 min and 48 h after a step-exercise performed until exertion, assessing R-R interval, RMSSD,
low, high frequencies (LF, HF) and total power (TP). Capillary blood was obtained before and post-exercise (2 h and 48 h), assessing plasma IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12, MCP-1, TNFα, IL-1ra and IL-10 with multiplex ELISA. Linear
regression (LRM) and additive models (GAM) were used to evaluate associations.
Exercise induced LF/HF elevation (sympathetic dominance) and HF/TP reduction (parasympathetic suppression) at 15 min post-exercise, and a rise in IL-6 and IL-10 at 2 h, higher in males than in females. All measurements were normalized by 48 h. At rest, LF/HF correlated positively with IL-1β, whereas HF/TP correlated negatively with IL-1α, IL-1β, and IL-1ra; these associations persisted 15 min postexercise, with an additional negative correlation between HF/TP and IL-12. LRM indicated a trend for an inverse relationship between HF/TP at rest and IL-1α at 2 h, and GAM revealed a nonlinear association between LF/HF at rest and IL-1β
at 2 h. At 15 min post-exercise, LF/HF further associated with IL-1β and IL-12.
These findings suggest that greater parasympathetic activation at rest and postexercise may be linked to lower exercise-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Further research in other cohorts is warranted to confirm the capacity of HRV as indicator of inflammation in sportThe author(s) declare that financial support was received for the research and/or publication of this article. Funded by Ministerio

Inhibiting and protective factors of exclusive breastfeeding in an Island population in Spain: a longitudinal study
Background
Breastfeeding provides important health benefits for both mothers and infants. In Spain, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) at 6 months is 47%, which remains below the 60% target proposed by the World Health Organization for 2030. The objective of this study was to identify the protective and inhibiting factors associated with EBF in a population of pregnant women in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain).
Methods
We conducted a longitudinal, prospective study among women attending midwife consultations for pregnancy check-ups at a primary healthcare center between November 2018 and January 2021. We followed 83 women, collecting data at different time points during pregnancy and postpartum (hospital stay, 15 days, 1 month, 4 months, and 6 months). Descriptive statistics and univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed.
Results
The inhibiting factors for EBF were pacifier use during the hospital stay, on EBF after birth (OR: 0.06, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.23), pacifier use at 15 days (OR: 0.13, 95% CI: 0.04, 0.42) and at 4 months (OR: 0.23, 95% CI: 0.07, 0.79), gynecological problems of the woman (OR: 0.14, 95% CI: 0.03, 0.61), the presence of nipple pain at 15 days affecting EBF at 4 months (OR: 0.18, 95% CI: 0.06, 0.56) and at 6 months (OR: 0.21, 95% CI: 0.07, 0.68), perception of insufficient milk at 15 days (OR: 0.15, 95% CI: 0.05, 0.49) and at 1 month (OR: 0.06, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.20), and giving birth in a privately managed hospital without Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) accreditation (OR: 0.17, 95% CI: 0.05, 0.66). Protective factors for EBF were the woman’s prior knowledge of the benefits of breastfeeding for her child (OR: 5.25, 95% CI: 1.03, 26.80) and for herself (OR: 3.98, 95% CI: 1.31, 12.02), as well as having a foreign nationality (OR: 3.04, 95% CI: 1.05, 8.80).
Conclusions
The factors impacting EBF can be addressed with improved care practices for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the early postpartum period. It is essential to train healthcare professionals and implement the BFHI in Spain, where it is primarily carried out in public hospitals, but not in private onesThis research project was funded by the Spanish Health Research Fund 630 (PIFIIS19/15), through the Canary Islands Foundation Health Research 631 Institute of the Canary Islands (FIISC), CIF: G76208396, Barranco de la Ballena, s/n, Edificio Anexo al Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria “Negrín”, 633 35019 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spai
Effectiveness of nature-based solutions in natural disaster events
Nature-Based Solutions (NBSs) are tools that promote risk prevention
and impact mitigation and recovery from disturbances by placing nature at the
centre. In recent years, NBSs have been increasingly used to prevent extreme
natural events, such as forest fires and hydrological or geomorphological processes,
that pose risks. In this sense, the implementation of these measures allows for the
sustainable management of the natural environment. Choosing one management
approach over another requires consideration of the available natural resources, as
well as the effectiveness and sustainability of each option. In the context of global
change, NBSs can play a key role in enabling ecosystems to adapt naturally to the
disturbances expected in the coming decade
