Corrections to ''Minimal piecewise linear cones in '' (Math. Scand. 130 (2024), 149--160)
The paper “Minimal piecewise linear cones in ” (Math. Scand. 130 (2024), 149–160) contains two errors. The result is weakened from a full classification of the five minimal piecewise linear cones in to a classification of five minimizers and two candidates that we could not determine whether were minimizing or not
Tonalt realiseret stød i jysk
This paper investigates the Danish suprasegmental stød as a falling tone in Jutland. Previous research on the phonetics of stød has mainly focused on Copenhagen Danish, and it has mostly been described as a kind of creaky voice, glottal plosive or laryngalization (Basbøll, 2003; Grønnum, 2005). In dialectal studies of stød, a geographical line through Denmark is described, known as the ‘stød border’. Areas North of the line have stød, and areas south of the line do not, even though some of these areas have tonal accents related to stød. Kyst (2008) is the first to describe stød in the city of Aarhus as a falling tone in certain syllables, but this pattern has not been described in other parts of Jutland prior to this paper. This study finds that in monosyllabic words it mostly occurs on morphophonological closed syllables with long vowels with a few exceptions when the vowel is short around |-d| and |-r| when realized as a diphthong. These exceptions may be a result of individual variation, but possibly they can be explained phonologically. The disyllabic words all have examples of tonal stød no matter what is between the nuclei of the syllables. Keywords: Stød, faldende tone, creaky voice, danske dialekter, jysk, morfofonologiThis paper investigates the Danish suprasegmental stød as a falling tone in Jutland.
This article focuses on how religion is exhibited in new museums in the Arab Gulf states. The article focuses in particular on the Louvre Abu Dhabi, a ranch of the Louvre Paris, which opened in 2017 with the ambition of being a ‘universal’ museum that, among other things, makes religion central to the history of civilizations and innovatively, both in the Gulf but also in general, exhibits different religions side by side. In recent years, a number of new, large museums have been built in the Arab Gulf states – and more are on the way. The Louvre is part of Abu Dhabi’s launch of several different museums on Saadiyat Island, and Qatar is known for its Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and a spectacular National Museum. The article also shows how these new museums further develop a museum tradition which was founded in the first years of the Gulf states as independent states, among other things with great involvement from archeology and anthropology in Aarhus
Journal Club Insights: Case Studies on Generative AI in Biomedical Laboratory Science Education
This study explores the utilization of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Journal Club (JC) sessions within Biomedical Laboratory Science (BLS) education, using ChatPDF. Focusing on case studies of 6th semester students, our research combines observational and tracking methodologies to assess student engagement with ChatPDF. Guided by a conceptual framework comprising self-efficacy with agency, digital literacy, data use, and critical analysis, the study examines students’ interactions with ChatPDF across three JCs. This research utilizes sequential mixed methods design, incorporating data from surveys and interviews, gaining deeper insights into students’ experiences and perceptions regarding GenAI. Findings show that while some students strategically used ChatPDF to support comprehension, preparation, and discussion, others relied on it primarily for translation or surface-level understanding. High self-efficacy was associated with deeper engagement and autonomous use of the tool, whereas lower self-efficacy often led to limited or passive interaction. While this study shows that GenAI has the potential to assist students in overcoming educational challenges, it also sheds light on the pitfalls associated with over-reliance on GenAI, the need for preserving student agency, and the importance of ensuring ethical and meaningful learning experiences. This study explores the utilization of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Journal Club (JC) sessions within Biomedical Laboratory Science (BLS) education, using ChatPDF.
The release of OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2022 marked a new era in AI-supported education and highlighted both the benefits and challenges of using chatbots in teaching. Concerns about superficial learning and potential misuse of AI have made educators hesitant to implement such tools. The article explores ethical and pedagogical perspectives on AI in higher education through Hannah Arendt's theories on "the human condition". The case study is based on screen dumps from students' use of ChatGPT in written assignments and focus group interviews. The research question is: How does the use of AI affect students' learning processes in relation to Arendt's concepts of vita activa and vita contemplativa, and how can trust and transparency between students and educators be strengthened to ensure responsible and critical use of the technology? The article analyses data from 70 students from architectural technology and construction management in their third to seventh semesters. Through a thematic analysis and a discussion of the results against Arendt's concepts of vita activa and vita contemplativa, the article seeks a nuanced understanding of AI's role in education to develop pedagogical frameworks that promote academic integrity and critical thinking. The article proposes a conceptual framework for creating transparency and trust related to the use of AI in learning environments
The Prison Choir: A Portrait of Louise Adrian
I wrote this article during the summer of 2024, when Louise Adrian, the leader of the Prison Choir, was terminally ill with cancer. The text is a memorial for a special and significant person, a discussion of Louise Adrian’s intentions with the Prison Choir, and exploring how Louise Adrian, as a person, became part of something meaningful for the many singers in the Prisoners’ Choir. Thus, the article is a product of curiosity towards a person and her project who has created something unique. With the article, I want to gain insight into Louise’s work, which can hopefully help others and be a role model. That was Louise’s wish. It was important to me that Louise got the opportunity to read the draft of this article and comment. The article includes Louise’s considerations in three conversations towards the end of her life and draws on the book that Louise herself has written about the Prisoners’ Choir, as well as on recordings of the Prisoners’ Choir’s performance and speeches at the ‘Folkemødet’ (People’s Festival) on Bornholm in 2024. Louise ‘reviewed’ the article in July 2024. I wrote this piece to remember a person who did an irreplaceable job for the participants in the Prison Choir, relatives and all who, in one way or another, were in contact with the Prison and Probation Service and for all who have listened to the Prisoners’ Choir’s concerts over the years. Louise Adrian died on 16 August 2024 and was buried on 28 August 2024. The Prison Choir sang, and hundreds of people accompanied Louise to her final resting place. Louise lived to be 59 years old and made an indelible impression on many people, including me
Informant-based tools for assessing cognitive functions in people with an acquired brain injury: a scoping review
Assessment of potential impairments is a crucial prerequisite for understanding cognition and behaviour after an acquired brain injury. The assessment might be in the form of neuropsychological examination, screening, or selfreporting questionnaires, with the purpose of identifying problems within different cognitive domains. However, some people with an acquired brain injury may not, for instance, due to the severity of their impairments, be able to participate in traditional testing. Therefore, the present scoping review aims to identify and describe informant- based assessment tools based on observations of behaviour and cognitive function in people with an acquired brain injury. A total of six informant- based assessment tools, all in the form of questionnaires, were found through the review. Two of the tools assess executive function: two social cognition, one memory, and one attention. None of the tools covered more than one cognitive domain. Based on these informant-based assessment tools and their psychometric properties, a discussion on the relevance and applicability of such questionnaires will be included. In conclusion, the review finds it necessary and essential to be able to evaluate cognitive functions in people with an acquired brain injury – also when this is not possible through traditional neuropsychological assessment. However, at present, no comprehensive informant-based assessment tool that includes more than one cognitive domain exists, and the tools that have already been developed seem to lack criteria validity when compared to neuropsychological tests.
