INTERAKSIONISME SIMBOLIK PADA TRADISI SAJEN AMONG DI MALANG
The Sajen Among tradition in the villages of Sekarpuro, Asrikaton, and Tanggung in Malang Regency is a Javanese cultural ritual rich in symbolic and spiritual meaning. This study examines its existence, its symbols, and its significance through a qualitative approach. Based on in-depth interviews with six informants across the three villages, the research reveals distinct definitions and purposes of Sajen Among in each community: in Sekarpuro, it serves as an offering to ancestral spirits; in Asrikaton, as protection for spiritual kin; and in Tanggung, as an expression of gratitude. The ritual elements such as coffee, water, rice, traditional snacks, betel leaves, tobacco, cigarettes, incense, areca nuts, whiting, and uncaria, each embody unique Javanese cultural values. Viewed through the lens of symbolic interactionism, the meaning of these offerings is constructed through social interactions, including grave pilgrimages and strict adherence to ritual protocols. Despite challenges to its preservation, such as stigmatization as “musyrik” and pressures of modernization, Sajen Among continues to endure as a vital expression of cultural and spiritual identit
TRANSFORMASI KONSEP WAHDAT AL-WUJUD IBN ARABI DALAM TASAWUF KONTEMPORER INDONESIA
This study analyzes the transformation of Ibn Arabi’s concept of wahdat al-wujud (the unity of being) within the context of contemporary Indonesian Sufism, particularly in response to the challenges of religious pluralism. Employing a qualitative approach and case study method, the research explores how the metaphysical doctrine developed by Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (1165–1240 CE) has been adapted by modern Indonesian Sufi figures to address the complexities of religious life in the modern era. Data were collected through textual analysis, in-depth interviews with leaders of Sufi orders, and observation of spiritual practices in various pesantren and zawiyah. The findings reveal that wahdat al-wujud has undergone significant reinterpretation, with a particular emphasis on values of tolerance, inclusivity, and interreligious coexistence, while still upholding core Islamic theological principles. This transformation reflects Sufism’s capacity to respond to local socio-cultural changes while preserving its spiritual depth. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the flexibility of classical Sufi teachings in modern contexts and offers a fresh perspective on the role of Sufism in fostering religious harmony and tolerance within Indonesia’s pluralistic society
Menelusuri Akar Toleransi Beragama dalam Sejarah Islam-Kristen di Indonesia dan Relevansinya dengan Hadis-Hadis Nabi
This study investigates the historical foundations of interreligious tolerance between Muslim and Christian communities in Indonesia and examines their relevance to the Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad. By tracing key moments of Islamic-Christian encounters—from the early spread of both religions in the archipelago to the colonial and post-independence periods—the article identifies sociocultural and theological factors that have sustained peaceful coexistence. Special attention is given to prophetic traditions (Hadiths) that advocate principles of compassion, justice, and respect for religious diversity. The findings suggest that these Hadiths not only reinforce Indonesia’s longstanding tradition of pluralism but also offer normative guidance for strengthening interfaith relations in contemporary society
Mengoptimalkan Pola Pikir Filsafat dan Islam di Kalangan Mahasiswa dan Dosen (Studi di Prodi Aqidah dan Filsafat Islam, UIN Sumatera Utara)
This study examines efforts to optimize an integrative mindset of philosophy and Islamic values among students and lecturers in the Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy Study Program at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Studies, UIN Sumatera Utara. Employing a mixed-methods design, the research combines a phenomenological qualitative approach to capture participants’ subjective perspectives and quantitative analysis using descriptive and inferential statistics on a stratified random sample of sixteen respondents. Data were gathered via semi-structured interviews, Likert-scale questionnaires, and classroom observations, then subjected to thematic analysis and triangulation for enhanced validity. Key findings reveal that students exhibit adaptive and creative thinking patterns, while lecturers adopt reflective and strategic mindsets. Both internal factors (motivation, belief systems, educational background) and external factors (curriculum design, teaching methods, academic environment) influence the development of an integrative mindset. Optimization strategies include strengthening literacy and open discussions, collaborative social projects, curriculum revision with contemporary case studies, and positioning lecturers as intellectual and spiritual facilitators. The study concludes that although critical and integrative thinking skills have emerged, challenges such as rote learning habits, limited discussion spaces, and personal hesitations remain and must be addressed through strategic interventions to harmonize reason and revelation in Islamic academic contexts
Nurse Managers’ Experience in Managing Patient Screening at RSUP H. Adam Malik’s Emergency Department During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Nurse managers play an essential role in coordinating emergency department functions, especially during global health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Indonesia, their experiences have not been widely explored, despite facing unique logistical, emotional, and cultural challenges. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of nurse managers in overseeing COVID-19 screening procedures in the emergency department of RSUP H. Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, Indonesia. A descriptive phenomenological approach was employed to capture the essence of their experiences. Ten nurse managers were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews lasting 30 to 60 minutes, supplemented by field notes and document analysis. Colaizzi’s seven-step method guided the analysis, with credibility ensured via member checking and triangulation using multiple informants. The study identified five major themes: (1) psychological distress in the early phase of the pandemic, stemming from fear, uncertainty, and concern for family safety; (2) challenges in implementing screening, including patient resistance, resource limitations, and PPE shortages; (3) proactive efforts for early COVID-19 detection through triage protocols and symptom-checking tools; (4) improvements in screening management, emphasizing leadership, education, and compliance; and (5) adaptation and resilience, as nurse managers developed strategies to cope with evolving demands and pressures. These themes reveal both universal healthcare struggles and context-specific issues—such as anxiety about infecting multigenerational households—that shaped nurse managers’ responses. This research contributes to the limited body of qualitative evidence on pandemic leadership in LMICs. The insights gained underscore the importance of robust emergency preparedness, targeted psychological support for healthcare leaders, and ongoing improvements in screening protocols. Strengthening these areas can better equip healthcare systems to face future public health emergencies. Keywords: Nurse Managers, COVID-19, Emergency Department, Screening, Indonesia, LMICs
Maternal Mortality in Cardiac Pregnancy: Ethical Conflicts in Patient Autonomy and Clinical Decision-Making
Maternal mortality remains a significant concern in pregnancies complicated by heart disease, especially when patient preferences diverge from evidence-based clinical recommendations. These situations present complex clinical and ethical challenges for healthcare providers. This case report illustrates the interplay between patient autonomy, clinical decision-making, and outcomes in high-risk cardiac pregnancy. A 34-year-old multiparous woman with known cardiomegaly and valvular heart disease presented at 37–38 weeks’ gestation with worsening dyspnea, cardiac decompensation, and pulmonary hypertension. Despite medical advice recommending immediate delivery at a tertiary care center, she initially declined intervention. She later returned with severe preeclampsia and pulmonary hypertension. An emergency caesarean section was performed, but her condition deteriorated postoperatively, culminating in cardiac arrest and death. This case underscores the ethical tension between honoring patient autonomy, the right to make informed decisions, and the principle of beneficence, which obligates clinicians to act in the patient’s best interest. Decision-making was shaped by educational background, limited health literacy, cultural norms, family influence, and potential mistrust of the healthcare system, all of which may compromise truly informed consent. Addressing these barriers requires clear, accessible, and culturally attuned communication to ensure patients comprehend the risks and benefits. Integrating structured shared decision-making and early ethics consultation can help resolve conflicts, align care with patient values, and safeguard maternal and fetal outcomes. Ethical management demands a careful balance between respecting autonomy and preventing harm, while advocating for systemic reforms that address the social determinants of maternal health. Timely multidisciplinary care, culturally sensitive counseling, and structured shared decision-making are essential to harmonize patient autonomy with life-saving interventions in high-risk cardiac pregnancies, thereby reducing preventable maternal mortality. Criminal Liability of Juvenile Drug Dealers in the Perspective of Islamic Takzir Law
This study examines the criminal liability of juvenile drug dealers in Court Decision Number 2/Pid.Sus-Anak/2022/PN Crp, using a normative legal approach and field case analysis. The case involves two 17-year-old minors who were found guilty of selling drugs under the instruction of an adult. The judge sentenced them to 3 years and 6 months in prison along with 3 months of vocational training. This paper highlights the alignment between Law No. 11 of 2012 on the Juvenile Criminal Justice System and the perspective of Islamic criminal law. In Islamic law, such acts are considered jarimah (criminal offenses) and are legally analogized to khamr (intoxicants). The takzir approach allows judges to impose educational and preventive sanctions. The main contribution of this study is its comparative analysis between normative legal provisions and judicial practice, while exploring the relevance of the takzir concept in ensuring child protection and proportional justice
Harmonious Communication in the Household: Tafsir Qs Al Hujurat And An-Nisa
This study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the concept of harmonious communication within the family based on the values of the Qur'an, particularly those contained in Surah Al-Hujurat and An-Nisa. In Islamic teachings, the family is the primary foundation for building a harmonious and religious society. One of the key elements in creating a family that is sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah is effective communication among family members, especially between husband and wife. Poor communication often triggers conflicts within the household, and in some cases, leads to divorce. This study employs a normative legal research method with a statute approach. The method used is library research, which involves collecting and analyzing data from various Islamic literature, including Qur'anic exegesis and Islamic law books. Surah Al-Hujurat and An-Nisa serve as the primary sources, analyzed through classical and contemporary exegesis to explore Islamic communication values. The results of the study indicate that communication based on Qur'anic values, such as honesty, mutual respect, and responsibility, plays a significant role in maintaining family harmony. The discussion in this study emphasizes that these communication principles can prevent prolonged conflicts, strengthen emotional bonds among family members, and serve as solutions in addressing the challenges of family life
