Application of the Laguerre Perturbed Galerkin Analysis Method for Solving Higher-Order Integro-Differential Equations

    No full text
This study presents the development and implementation of a novel numerical method, the Laguerre Perturbed Galerkin (LPG) method, for solving higher-order integro-differential equations. The method leverages the advantages of Laguerre polynomials as basis functions while incorporating Chebyshev polynomials as perturbation terms to enhance both accuracy and efficiency. In the LPG method, the solution is approximated using Laguerre polynomials of degree N, with the residual error minimized via the Galerkin approach. Chebyshev polynomials are introduced as perturbation terms to further refine the solution. The residual is systematically reduced to a system of (N + 1) equations, which is then solved to determine the unknown coefficients of the approximating Laguerre polynomials. Comparative analyses demonstrate that the LPG method achieves superior accuracy and faster convergence rates compared to existing techniques, particularly for higher-order integro-differential equations. The findings contribute to the advancement of numerical methods in this domain, providing a powerful computational tool for scientists and engineers

School-age children are vulnerable to the impact of disasters due to their lack of understanding and knowledge about earthquake preparedness. To increase children’s disaster preparedness knowledge, an attractive learning media smart boxes can be employed. This study aims to analyze the effect of smart box education on students’ knowledge of earthquake disaster preparedness. The research design was a quasi-experiment with two groups and a pre-post-test control group. The population consisted of 180 elementary school students, selected by cluster random sampling, with 130 students involved in the study (65 in the intervention group and 65 in the control group). Data were collected using an earthquake preparedness knowledge questionnaire. The intervention group received smart box education, while the control group received lecture-based education. The pre- and post-tests were conducted on the same day. The study took place on February 27, 2025, at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Sedayulawas in the Brondong District of the Lamongan Regency. The data were then analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests (α ≤ 0.05). The results showed that 60% of students had poor knowledge before receiving smart box education while after receiving smart box education, 58.5% of students had good knowledge. Providing smart box education and lecture media increased students’ knowledge about earthquake disaster preparedness (p=0.000), with an average score of 25.77 in the intervention group and 4.77 in the control group. Smart box education proved to be more effective than lectures in increasing students’ knowledge of earthquake preparedness because smart boxes encourage critical thinking and hands-on learning, whereas lectures only require students to listen

Epistemic Agency as a Mediator in Dual-Path Learning: Insights from Indonesian Chemistry Classrooms

    No full text
This study investigates the mediating role of epistemic agency in the relationship between students’ perceptions of constructivist learning environments and their conceptual understanding in Indonesian chemistry classrooms. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches. In the quantitative phase, data were collected from 712 high school students across five schools using an adapted Constructivist Learning Environment Survey (CLES) and a three-tier diagnostic chemistry test. Rasch modeling confirmed the strong psychometric properties of the adapted CLES, while structural equation modeling (SEM) revealed that epistemic agency significantly mediated the relationship between classroom environment perceptions and conceptual understanding. In the qualitative phase, thematic analysis of interviews with 12 selected students uncovered three dominant themes contributing to misconceptions: limited dialogic space, lack of contextualization, and teacher-dominated instruction. The integration of both data strands demonstrates that epistemic agency is not only influenced by pedagogical practices but also shaped by cultural norms. These findings extend the dual-path learning framework by embedding agency as a key mechanism for conceptual change. Pedagogically, the results underscore the need for dialogic, student-centered learning environments that promote active participation and reduce misconceptions. Policy-wise, the findings align with the OECD Learning Compass 2030 and Indonesia’s Merdeka Belajar curriculum, emphasizing the importance of agency-oriented strategies in achieving global education standards

Development of a Differentiated Learning-Based Chemical Bonding Teaching Module to Enhance Scientific Argumentation Skills

    No full text
This study aimed to develop a differentiated teaching module to enhance students' scientific argumentation skills on chemical bonding material. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Validation results from experts showed that the developed differentiated teaching module was highly valid (92% and 94%), very practical (100% and 97%), and effective, with more than 80% of students achieving the minimum competency standard (KKM) and an average score of 88. The improvement in scientific argumentation skills was reflected in the average pre-test score of 64, which increased to 80 in the post-test. Specifically, the indicators of scientific argumentation showed improvement: claims increased from 62.9% to 75.4%, data from 66.3% to 84%, warrants from 67.8% to 82.1%, and backings from 68.4% to 79.4%. The increase in scientific argumentation scores from pre-test to post-test indicates that the developed teaching module was effective in helping students hone their argumentative skills. However, the ability to formulate claims and backings still requires reinforcement, as they demand a more complex understanding. Nevertheless, this improvement suggests that the differentiated teaching module created and implemented can strengthen students' scientific argumentation skills in understanding chemical bonding material, making it recommended for broader application, especially in science education

Analysis of Community Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors on Urban Heat Island Impacts in Rappocini District, Makassar City

    No full text
The phenomenon of Urban Heat Island (UHI) refers to the rise in temperature in urban areas compared to their surrounding rural regions, primarily due to land-use changes, reduced vegetation, and high-density infrastructure. This condition poses health and environmental risks and presents significant challenges for sustainable urban planning. This study aims to: (1) assess the community’s level of knowledge regarding climate change and the impacts of UHI; (2) analyze public attitudes and adaptive behaviors in responding to UHI; and (3) determine the influence of knowledge and attitudes on behavior related to mitigating UHI impacts. A quantitative approach was applied using a household survey and structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, including t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R²), with the aid of SPSS software. The findings show that the community's knowledge and attitudes are generally categorized as good. The F-test yielded a significance value of 0.054, indicating that the model was nearly significant at the 0.05 level. Partially, attitudes had a significant influence on adaptive behavior (p = 0.030), whereas knowledge did not show a significant effect (p = 0.890). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.083, meaning that knowledge and attitudes collectively explain 8.3% of the variation in community behavior toward UHI mitigation. These findings highlight the need to strengthen public education and promote behavioral adaptation strategies to reduce the environmental impact of urban heat

    No full text
This study analysed spatiotemporal changes in mangrove canopy density within the coastal areas of Pekalongan Regency and Pekalongan City using multitemporal Sentinel-2 imagery (2019, 2021, and 2024). This study was motivated by the continuous degradation of mangrove ecosystems due to severe tidal flooding, land subsidence, and coastal hydrodynamic disturbances, which necessitate reliable monitoring tools to support mitigation and restoration programs. The objective of this study was to compare the performance of NDVI, NDVI-Red Edge, and mRE-SR vegetation indices in estimating mangrove canopy density and to determine the most accurate index for tidal-affected environments. The methodological framework involved image preprocessing, land cover classification, vegetation index computation, and linear regression modelling validated by in situ canopy measurements obtained through hemispherical photography. The results showed that the mangrove area declined significantly between 2019 and 2021, followed by partial recovery in 2024 in response to rehabilitation efforts. Among the tested indices, NDVI-Red Edge Band 5 yielded the highest accuracy with the lowest RMSE (7.65%), outperforming NDVI and mRE-SR, whereas Bands 6 and 7 showed weak predictive capability. The study concluded that NDVI-RE Band 5 is the most reliable index for mapping mangrove canopy density in dynamic coastal environments affected by tidal inundation. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of combining Sentinel-2 red-edge information with field-based validation to support mangrove monitoring and coastal management

Integration of Temperature and Weather Sensors with LORA Technology for Real-Time Monitoring Systems in Basin Cooling Tower

    No full text
    — The cooling system of geothermal power plants (PLTP) critically depends on cooling towers, particularly the basin as the reservoir for cooled water to be recirculated into the system. Real-time monitoring of basin water temperature and weather conditions is essential for maintaining operational efficiency and prolonging equipment lifespan. Manual observation and wired systems are limited in terms of range and response time, prompting the need for a more advanced monitoring solution. This article describes the development and implementation of a LoRa-based monitoring  system that integrates temperature and weather sensors in the cooling tower basin of a geothermal power plant. The research was conducted through literature reviews, direct observation, consultations with experts, and comprehensive field testing of both hardware and software under various operational scenarios. The designed system consistently transmits temperature and weather sensor data with a success rate exceeding 95%, and achieves an effective transmission range of 400–500 meters in open geothermal areas. Implementation of this system results in increased data acquisition speed, improved energy efficiency, and enhanced monitoring accuracy, supporting faster technical responses and better risk management. Evaluation results confirm that the LoRa-based solution functions optimally and is highly applicable for deployment in challenging and remote geothermal industrial environments
