    No full text
Borax (sodium tetraborate decahydrate; Na₂B₄O₇·10H₂O) is prohibited for use in processed foods in Indonesia, necessitating analytically defensible surveillance methods for routine monitoring. This study aimed to validate a curcumin-based UV–Vis spectrophotometric assay and to apply rapid qualitative screening to nugget products marketed in Gorontalo, Indonesia. Qualitative screening was performed using the flame test and turmeric paper test on six samples (A1–C2) collected in October 2025. For the UV–Vis method, wavelength optimisation using a 500 µg/mL borax standard identified 427 nm as the operational measurement wavelength. Calibration standards (1–9 µg/mL) were analysed in triplicate, and validation was conducted for linearity, LOD, LOQ, repeatability precision, and spike-recovery accuracy (80%, 100%, and 120% levels). The method exhibited excellent linearity (y = 0.1082x + 0.0147; R² = 0.9995), with LOD and LOQ of 0.25849 µg/mL and 0.86165 µg/mL, respectively. Repeatability showed 1.40% RSD, while spike-recovery testing demonstrated high trueness (mean recovery 99.403%) with low dispersion (%RSD 0.201–0.252%). All nugget samples were negative by both qualitative screening assays. However, UV–Vis quantitative values for the nugget extracts were not available in the recorded dataset; therefore, borax-equivalent concentrations in mg/kg could not be reported for the marketed samples. Overall, the validated curcumin UV–Vis procedure demonstrates strong analytical performance and is suitable for confirmatory monitoring, provided that future surveillance applies the method directly to each sample extract to enable defensible classification as ND (LOD), LOQ, or quantified (≥LOQ)

Limited knowledge and restricted access to health information that aligns with the working conditions of fishermen contribute to low preventive behaviors regarding eye disorders. Waterproof and easy-to-use educational media suitable for coastal environments represent an important innovation in improving eye health knowledge. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of eye health education delivered through a waterproof pocketbook in increasing the knowledge of coastal fishermen. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest one-group design. The research was conducted in December 2025 in Bintalahe Village, Kabila Bone District, Bone Bolango Regency. The study population consisted of coastal community members working as fishermen, with a sample of 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and inferentially using the paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in respondents’ knowledge scores after the intervention. The average knowledge score improved from low–moderate category at pretest to good category at posttest (p 0.001). These findings indicate that the waterproof pocketbook is effective as an educational medium adapted to fishermen’s working environments. Eye health education using a waterproof pocketbook effectively improves the knowledge of coastal fishermen. This media is recommended as a workplace health promotion strategy in coastal communities to prevent eye health problems

Spatiotemporal Analysis Of Flood Inundation Using MNDWI At Rawa Pening 2019-2025

    No full text
Flood inundation around Rawa Pening Lake has intensified in recent years, yet long-term patterns of inundation extent and persistence remain poorly quantified. This study aims to analyse the interannual and spatial dynamics of flood inundation in the Rawa Pening lake-basin system during 2019–2025 and to identify riparian zones that experience recurrent flooding. Sentinel-2 Level-2A imagery was processed within a 3 km riparian buffer to compute the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI), apply a histogram- and visually based threshold for water extraction, and generate annual maximum inundation and seasonal wet-season inundation-frequency metrics. The classification achieved high overall accuracy (93.1%), supporting the reliability of the derived inundation products. The multiyear results reveal strong year-to-year variability in maximum inundation and show that floodwater consistently concentrates in low-lying southern and southeastern riparian sectors, particularly within Banyubiru and Tuntang subdistricts, while western and northern sectors experience smaller and less persistent flooding. The combination of maximum inundation extent and inundation-frequency maps provides complementary insight into extreme events and recurrent flood exposure, enabling a clearer distinction between episodic and chronic flood impacts on riparian agriculture and settlements. These findings demonstrate the value of multitemporal MNDWI analysis and an ecologically defined buffer zone for monitoring lake-basin flooding and offer a spatial basis for prioritizing riparian conservation, land-use regulation, and flood-risk reduction around Rawa Pening
