Mining Sleep Data Towards Efficient Identification and Treatment
No full textThe aim of this study is to identify predictors of different sleep disorders which are less studied within the field. With sleep disorders affecting the overall well being of millions of individuals worldwide this is an important examination of potential factors which can lead to the development of such disorders. A relational database was constructed using MySql and Python in order to perform multiple different statistical analyses on data provided by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset. Correlations and predictions between described sleep disorders and different physiological factors described within the dataset were found to establish conclusions as to which lesser explored factors are the most related in an individual developing such disorders.
The contribution this work has on the field is identifying potential pitfalls of research being conducted in order to potentially provide better care for patients. Such patients can either be those who already hold a sleep disorder diagnosis or those who hold the factors identified within this study that were proven to have strong relations to the development of a sleep disorder
Bedside Nursing Report: Changing the Practice in the Hospital and How it Affects Patients
No full textThis literature review explores barriers and obstacles that have prevented bedside shift reports to be the standard of practice for hospitals nation-wide. By analyzing existing research from 2019-2024, the review was able to explore data from both qualitative and quantitative research studies. The analysis reveals that there are benefits of the bedside shift report style for nurses and their patients. Nurses are able to gain more knowledge and information on their patients while being less distracted by their surroundings when completing a report at the bedside. Patients will also benefit in the bedside shift reports because it allows for an increase in patient safety and privacy while also enabling the patient to be a more active member in their plan of care. These findings emphasize the benefits of the bedside shift report and prove that a full change would lead to decreased miscommunication among nurses as well as decrease nursing medical errors. This review will provide insight into the most effective implementation strategies for healthcare facilities that can be put in place to allow for a smooth transition to this style of reporting
Wild Women, Wild West: Queer Women’s Sexuality and Gender Presentations on the Western Frontier
No full textWhile there has been considerable study regarding the lives of homosexual men in the Wild West and on the American frontier, there has been significantly less scholarship focusing on the lives of queer women. This article argues that, despite the newfound freedom provided by the perceived lessening of gender restrictions in the Wild West, queer women and AFAB people still found themselves condemned by media and the public, as demonstrated in newspaper articles and personal accounts from the nineteenth century. By following the lives of prominent figures that exhibited queer traits, such as dressing masculinely, presenting as men, and entering romantic relationships with women, historians can more acutely understand how possibly queer women and AFAB people conducted themselves in the American West, as well as how the public received these people
Domestic Violence Punishments in the NFL
Get PDFThe way that professional athletes are punished for violent crimes is something that the leagues need to put an emphasis on. As media coverage has risen in regards to athletes being violent, specifically against women, the fans understanding of its severity has risen along with it. As currently constructed, the NFL allows for too much bias, lacks deterrence, and does not focus on helping the athletes. These are the main points that my presentation focus on. In the next CBA, something like my idea needs to be put into place. This can then be extended to all violent crimes in professional sports leagues. My idea is to appoint a seven person committee that holds meetings and essentially runs a civil court. Two players\u27 association representatives, two league office appointed representatives, and three jointly appointed experts . There needs to be an adequate amount of diversity on this committee because we can subconsciously have biases towards members of our in-group. A player, on their first offense, gets a maximum suspension of six games. The main recourse of the first offense is to help the athlete to make better decisions. Changing the focus to rehabilitation for athletes will help resolve the issue as much as it can, and will end up being a positive for the NFL both morally and monetarily

In order for pre kindergarten and kindergarten students to grasp the alphabetic principle is it imperative they receive explicit instruction in alphabet knowledge. This presentation will explain the necessary components that go into teaching students alphabet knowledge through explicit instruction in letter names, letter sounds, and letter formations. This knowledge will take the abstract marks on a page in a book to a full understanding of phoneme grapheme correspondence. The proper steps taken in alphabet knowledge will build a bridge to successful phonics instruction thus allowing students to begin their journey through reading. In this session you will learn varying thoughts on the order in which to teach letters, how to include embedded mnemonic alphabet to your instruction, the explicit instruction of alphabet sounds, and how to incorporate multisensory instruction into letter formation
Anti-Inflammatory Diet and the effects on women with Endometriosis
No full textClinical Scenario: In a clinical setting, women with endometriosis tend to experience high levels of pelvic pain and do not find a difference in relief with birth control pills or laparoscopic surgery. Therefore, clinicians are constantly experimenting new methods to approach an endometriosis diagnosis and are starting to look into holistic approaches, like diets. The anti-inflammatory diet is a well researched diet and is known to decrease inflammatory markers.
Summary of Key Findings: Four relevant original studies were and categorized based on the Physiotherapy Evidence Database Scale. Based on research diets or supplementation based on controlling anti-inflammatory markers has been reported to decrease self reported symptoms of endometriosis. Therefore, in a clinical setting, assisting in the recommendation of supplementation or dietary changes in women with endometriosis has a positive impact on patients in relieving symptoms like chronic pelvic pain.
Clinical Question: Does an anti-inflammatory diet assist in helping women with endometriosis manage their symptoms?
Clinical Bottom Line: The importance of this study is to provide clinicians with the baseline knowledge and understanding on endometriosis and anti-inflammatory diet and the understanding of when this recommendation is useful for patients. Through determining the current symptoms the patient has and current strategies for managing endometriosis symptoms we will be able to determine the reasoning behind the implication of controlling anti-inflammatory markers in relieving endometriosis symptoms.

Analyzing the Effectiveness of Providing Religious and Spiritual-Based Care for Patients Currently Receiving Palliative Care Services
No full textThis literature review explores the effectiveness of providing spiritual and religious-based care to patients currently receiving palliative care settings. In the context of this research, palliative care is defined as the six month period before a person’s death. By examining peer-reviewed journal articles from 2020 to 2024, this literature review will incorporate findings from multiple studies (both qualitative and quantitative) in order to effectively compare and contrast spiritual and religious beliefs and practices for patients receiving palliative care. After thorough examination, collected research has demonstrated that individuals who receive both timely and frequent religious and spiritual-base care while on palliative care undergo a more peaceful transition during their death compared to those who do not. Research indicates that healthcare providers (more specifically, nurses) who implement spiritual care in a patient’s overall plan of care have patients who are more accepting of their transition from life to death. In addition, research findings demonstrate that patients who actively engage in religious and spiritual-based services have an absence of severe physical symptoms during the final moments of their life compared to those who do not. This research is crucial for all nurses, as building relationships with their patients can not only put the patients but the nurses themselves at ease when death is imminent or has already occurred
