The Viability of Momentum Investing in the Small-Cap V.S. the Large Cap Space
This research paper examines the viability of a momentum investing strategy in the small cap space, using Monte Carlo analysis on momentum-based large cap investment strategies as a basis for comparison. Dorsey Wright’s systematic investment approach combines point-and-figure charting with relative strength calculations to produce a momentum-based investment strategy. Edgeworth Capital Group of Ameriprise Financial implements Dorsey Wright’s momentum-based investment approach into household portfolios invested in the US large cap space. Edgeworth applies the S&P 100 to Dorsey Wright’s matrix, creating a portfolio composed of the top-performing stocks in the matrix. Like the other studies analyzed in this paper, Edgeworth’s “10-pack” strategy has significantly outperformed the market over the period June 2014 – November 2024. This study applied the same trading strategy, Monte Carlo analysis, and time period to the PACER Cash-Cow Small Cap 100 ETF, an ETF composed of the 100 companies in the Russell 2,000 with the highest free cash flow yield. Despite more volatility in the small cap space, the momentum-based strategy outperformed the Russell 2000 index. While the viability of momentum-based investment strategies was well-analyzed in the US large cap space, these findings demonstrate the effectiveness of momentum investing in the broader US stock market, regardless of market capitalization
Soft Tissue Mobilization Techniques to Improve Range of Motion Deficits: A Critically Appraised Topic
Clinical Scenario - Soft tissue injuries can range in severity and can occur throughout the body. One of the most common physiological deficits that is observed after sustaining a soft tissue injury, or undergoing a surgical reconstruction or repair, is a lack of pain-free range of motion (ROM). To improve ROM deficits, clinicians use various techniques including Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM). IASTM has been a popular therapeutic modality in recent years. IASTM utilizes specially designed tools that contour to the body allowing the clinician to gain a mechanical advantage in mobilizing the tissue. The mechanical advantage gained through IASTM treatments gives the clinician access to a broader scale of surface area and pressure that can be applied during the treatment. Subsequently, limiting strain is placed on the hands of clinicians who provide soft tissue mobilization manually.
Clinical Question- How does IASTM compare to other soft tissue mobilization techniques in restoring pain-free ROM?
Summary of Key Finding(s) - All three studies found acute increases in ROM with IASTM after a single treatment. However, one study found more favorable greater ROM improvements with Compressive Myofascial release techniques, while the other two studies found comparable results between IASTM and the other chosen soft tissue mobilization techniques (Compressive Myofascial Release, Roller Stick Massage, Tissue Flossing, Kinesiology Taping). Both of these studies reported comparable results and recommended combining techniques to elicit greater improvements in ROM.
Clinical Bottom Line - IASTM is an effective technique for restoring pain-free range of motion in the immediate term (under 48 hours); however, it is recommended to use a combination approach of IASTM with CMR or Tissue Flossing. This may lead to sustainable physiological effects.

Phonological and phonemic awareness are essential skills for early literacy success, providing a strong foundation for decoding, encoding, and fluent reading. Research shows that students with strong phonological and phonemic awareness skills are better equipped to develop reading proficiency, while those who struggle with those skills may face long-term reading challenges. This presentation will provide an overview of these essential skills, highlighting their role in reading acquisition. The presentation will also outline evidence-based strategies and classroom activities, such as Elkonin Boxes, sound chips, and online blending boards, to strengthen students\u27 phonological and phonemic awareness skills. Additionally, we will discuss formal and informal phonological and phonemic awareness assessment tools and how that data can be used to inform instruction. Integrating these foundational skills into daily instruction can help students develop strong literacy foundations that contribute to long-term academic success

The ‘Why’ Behind Athletic Trainers: Experiences with the Social Determinants of Health at In-Crisis Secondary Schools
Context: Athletic Trainers (ATs) are primary healthcare providers at secondary school athletic events and are often the only access some student-athletes have to healthcare. Understanding the social determinants of health (SDoH) is crucial for providing high-quality healthcare for athletes.
Objective: To gain insight into the experiences of ATs working at secondary schools considered “in-crisis” by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) Program levels of low income.
Setting: Secondary School
Design: Qualitative Study
Data Collection and Analysis: We recruited 13 ATs who provided athletic training services at schools that were considered “in-crisis” via email utilizing the Athletic Training Locations and Services database. We completed online interviews until we achieved data saturation. We used a phenomenology approach to analyze the transcripts from the interviews. To secure trustworthiness, we used multi-analyst triangulation, peer review, and analytic memoing.
Results: ATs were motivated by the ability to provide a consistent trusted presence in patients’ lives that supported their overall well-being. Participants felt the SDoH did alter their clinical decision-making, but did not reduce the quality of care provided. ATs acted as fierce advocates for their patients to ensure their basic needs were met (food, clothes, toiletries, transportation, insurance, etc). Participants felt called to serve in their workplaces because of their unique positions to influence the lives of their patients and received high-quality care. ATs also felt supported by the communities they served to create a positive community health impact. Although participants felt well supported by school administrations, they felt time constraints due to high patient loads.
Conclusions: ATs working at “in-crisis” secondary schools are vital to communities due to their ability to navigate the impacts of the SDoH, establishing accessible equitable healthcare. Efforts should prioritize preparing ATs and students to provide care for similar populations, and continuing to support incentives for employing ATs at in-crisis secondary schools
The Effect of Filtered Water on Arabidopsis thaliana growth and development
Research indicates that unfiltered water causes more harm to plants than filtered water. This highlights the unanswered question of whether filtered water would cause plants to grow faster. Using two groups of wild-type and an unknown mutant form of Arabidopsis thaliana, we watered plants with tap water (unfiltered), while two other groups were watered with deionized water (filtered). Filtered water yielded better growth in wild-type but not mutant plants. We conclude that mutant 25026 could be deleterious against receiving filtered water
BIOL 114: The Effect of Humidity on Arabidopsis thaliana growth and development
Humidity and soil moisture levels can have a profound impact on plant growth. Optimal humidity between (60% - 70%) and optimal soil moisture (20 - 60%) exhibit the greatest effects. High humidity leads to negative impacts as it reduces the respiration rate, while low humidity levels will increase stomatal resistance, leading to a reduction of carbon dioxide uptake and photosynthesis. We used both wild-type and an unknown mutant form of Arabidopsis thaliana (25026) to examine humidity and soil moisture effects on plant growth and phenotypes. Plants grown under optimal humidity and soil moisture levels generally resulted in higher average plant diameter, however mutant 25026 showed no difference in growth compared to the wild-type
BIOL 114: The Effect of ABA on Arabidopsis thaliana growth and development
Due to an increase in climate change around the world, precipitation patterns are altered which leads to prolonged periods of drought. Studies have shown that abscisic acid, otherwise known as ABA, has increased the stress hormonal release and receptor performance of arabidopsis thaliana in experiments revolving around cross breeding. With ABA used to inhibit plant growth to prevent drought, we looked to see how arabidopsis thaliana would perform in these conditions in an absence of cross breeding. Additionally, we looked to discover if wild type and mutant type arabidopsis responded differently to the perceived drought. In order to achieve this, 64 pots of arabidopsis (32 wild types and 32 mutants) with four seedlings each were sprayed weekly with a concentration of ABA diluted in 95% ethanol while a control group of equal size was treated with just a concentration of 95% ethanol. Growth of plants was measured weekly and quantified by: leaf count per plant, plant diameter, and plant bolt height. The plants were grown for 10 weeks but treated and measured on three different occasions. There was no visible difference in the mutant type and wild type arabidopsis plants at the end of the 10 week period; however, there was a visible difference between the growth rates of arabidopsis between the control group and experimental group. The experimental group’s growth rate was stunted by the ABA solution more so than the control. This is relevant as it shows that the increased levels of ABA stress hormone presented to the plants did stunt their growth, regardless of a drought actually occurring. This data can lead to further research into the ever increasing presence of drought and how that may affect plant growth and development in the future
BIOL 114: The Effect of ash on Arabidopsis thaliana growth and development
According to the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, there are an average of 70,000 wildfires in one year in the United States alone. Wildfires have been a growing concern over the country, leaving the general community with questions like; how will the plants survive? Several studies have reported wildfire ash used to replenish soil to help plant growth. However, its impact on plant growth isn\u27t fully understood—it could help or harm depending on factors like concentration. This experiment will explore how ash affects Arabidopsis thaliana plant growth measured by factors such as plant height, number of leaves, and rosette diameter, aiming to uncover its potential as a natural soil enhancer or its limitations in farming efforts. To determine the true effect of wood ash’s presence in the group on plants, an experiment was conducted using two grams of ash from an oak tree and the growth of seeds, while keeping a control that received the same amount of light and water. For the first two weeks of treatment, ash had a negative effect on plant growth, in addition, the plants grown in the ash mostly died compared to wild types. However, of the surviving wildtype plants that were exposed to ash after two weeks and survived, they ended up thriving. From this we learned; ash can be detrimental to survival in the early days of plant germination, yet surviving plants can grow and thrive
