The Acoustical Performances of Oyster Shell Waste Based Green Concrete Materials
No full textResearch on green materials are continuously carried out by researchers, starting with research on middle-low income housing near the airport suffered by airport noise [1]. The orientation of housing facing the runway will have the biggest sound levels [2,3]. Efforts to control noise at middle-low housing annoyed by the noise will be more effective if housing uses a material that can absorb the sound. Therefore, this research is a part of a whole mapping research on housings noise control solution as a material which needs to be layered by another absorber material. Oyster shells in this research have function as cement substitution and provide aesthetic value on concrete materials. Types of shells observed in this research are: green mussels (Perna viridis Linn), blood clams (Anadara granosa Linn) and scallops (Placuna placenta Linn). All three shells were selected as samples in this study because it has a beautiful shell colors as well as having an acoustic performances
Improvement of Sound Insulation Performance of ALC Walls Using Mock-up Experiments
No full textMulti-unit dwelling has comprised the largest part of living in modern society where noise problems have become a social issue. Autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) panel and blocks have been widely used in residential, commercial and industrial buildings as its lightness and workability. However, the sound insulation performance of ALC is not high due to its light weight and the porousness. This study aimed to improve the sound insulation performance of ALC walls between housing units by changing the structure of the walls including layer of material, thickness of the air cavity, and connecting materials. In order to this, computer modeling and laboratory mock-up tests were undertaken to measure the STC of four different structures. As a result, the single-number quantities (Rw+C) of 61-68 dB, the first grade of sound insulation performance, can be acquired when ALC blocks were constructed with gypsum board and air cavity connected with metal or resilient channel

Mental health services should be able to provide at least a standard routine assessment of their patients, in order to identify or suspect the presence of physical health problems. (Maj, M 2009) The first step in addressing the gap between psychiatric and health management is to integrate physical health into mental health planning. (Miller, H 2008) The paper provides an overview of the innovative nurse led Physical Health Program which has successfully integrated into the core business of a community mental health clinic within Melbourne’s public health service and created working partnerships with primary care and community health. The paper provides an overview of the innovative nurse led Physical Health Program which has successfully integrated into the core business of a community mental health clinic within Melbourne’s public health service and created working partnerships with primary care and community health. Dedicated nursing roles and the development of a unique approach provides a barrier free long term care model which has returned high rates of engagement with consumers in addressing their physical health needs and goals. The model, which has been promoted for replication across the service, showcases best practice, the value of collaborative working with our community health and primary care partners, and the substantial progress and effective outcomes that can be achieved when a mental health nurses takes the lead in innovation and change
An Automated Decision Support System to Predict the Health Status of Eye Tissues

Flex Expert System shell was designed for theinference engine and SQL Server analytics were employed fordata mining. The implemented system was tested with actualeye tissue data and the agreement between the human expert’sdecisions and the system’s predictions are promising. Thesepredictions were generated as “Not Approvedâ€, “Approvedâ€,“Goodâ€, “Better†and “Best†based on the predictionprobability values generated by the Inference Engine
Sartre and Fanon: On Men and Women, and Gender and Race Intersection as They Relate to French Colonial Resistance
No full textIn this paper, the author presents Fanon’s analysis of decolonization in order to present an explicit conception of resistance based upon Fanon’s concept of decolonization, which is aligned with the lived experience of the colonized: their racial, sociopolitical, and economic condition as well as their existential condition. The author contrasts Fanon’s analysis with Sartre’s critique of colonialism as it appears in The Critique. Ultimately, through the presentation of Sartre’s and Fanon’s theories, the author attempts to show a feminist analysis of French colonial resistance as a criticism of Sartre’s and Fanon’s theories and of the analysis their male contemporaries within the field of Post/Colonial Theories
Gasset: Background to the Philosophy of an Existentialist
No full textSpain’s decline was the point of departure for the formation of Gasset’s philosophy. Gasset was bothered by the decline of his native country, Spain. He was therefore bent on finding solution to this problem, so that Spain could come back to its past glory. In his search for solution, he came to Europe where he came in contact with Neokantianism. Initially, he believed in its tenets, holding that what Spain lacked was a kind of culture of cosmopolitanism that could hold the Spanish people together instead of every man going his own way. His thought however evolved, where he held that only the Spanish people could save themselves. In this case, rather than thinking of humanity in the abstract sense of cosmopolitan humanity of Neokantianism, he focused on the concrete Spanish in Spain where he developed his philosophy called ratio-vitalism, which takes into consideration the concrete man in his environment. For him then, Neo-kantianism becomes a rationalism that does not pay sufficient attention to the concrete man and his environment. Then, culture, to Gasset, came to be understood as what is a creation for the service of humanity. It is then considered as the totality of ideas that will transform the human condition for the better. Specifically in relation to his Spanish society, it is the means of changing the society from its precarious position to the stage of genuine civilization or sustainable development
In Support of Theory of Appearing: Defending Langsam against Djukic’s Critique
No full textThe purpose of this paper is to defend Langsam’s Theory of Appearing (TA) against Djukic et al’s critique. In strengthening Langsam’s defense of TA, I adopt some of Le Morvan's arguments in defending Direct Realism. TA states that experiences are relations between material object and mind, and that phenomenal features are appearances of relations held between material objects and mind. Djukic objects to TA on three grounds of Hallucination, Causal Principle (CP), and Time-Gap: First, Djukic objects to TA on the ground that perception and hallucinations are phenomenally indistinguishable, thus phenomenal features (or properties) instantiated in perception may not be relations either, and thus TA could fail. In defending TA, Langsam argues that indistinguishability does not entail that perception and hallucination instantiate the same appearance. Moreover, disjunctivist conception of experience supports TA in that phenomenal features are either a relation between a material object and mind, or it is something else (as in cases of hallucination). I aim to show that sense-data (or like) theories of perception, that Djukic favors as being superior, would fail Djukic's own scrutiny in cases of hallucination in addition to being against common-sense. Second objection is that perception and hallucination must have the same-cause because they are indistinguishable, and also CP requires that same-causes to produce the same-effects. But hallucination and perception are different experiences, and hence TA fails CP. Responding to CP objection, “same-cause same-effect†only applies to intrinsic changes and intrinsic changes are changes in intrinsic properties and relations between intrinsic properties.  Third, TA is opposed because for a given Time-Gap we cannot experience objects as they are (were) at the time of our perception. TA defeats this objection because it does not claim that “we can now (experience) the no-longer existent object as it is now, but only that we can now (experience) the once-existent object as it used to be. Fourth, to further strengthen TA, I will raise objections to TA including from the vantage point of Durability, Perceptual Relativity, Illusion, and Partial Perception arguments, and respond to such objections accordingly. To explicate TA, I argue from the vantage points of common sense, realistic physical biological considerations, and non-miraculous expectations from any theory of perception, including from TA. Â
Reconciling Reductionism and Holism in the Biological Sciences: An Interpretation of Biological Kinds as Causal Homogeneous Functional Kinds
No full textReductionism and holism are two of the most resistant traditions in the formulation of a possible philosophical and theoretical position in the life sciences. Reductionism comes in different forms. Historically it has been expressed in mechanistic terms conforming to physicalist explanations and causal laws. Using natural kind language, reductionists regard biological entities and kinds as potentially necessary and sufficient categorical properties for membership much in the same way as the chemical elements in the Periodic Table. Holists, on the other hand, argue that biological kinds represent “novel†properties, i.e., properties that are not reducible to the “mere sum of partsâ€. Biological kinds cannot submit to natural kinds owing to their plural complexity and vagueness. Traditionally, holist approaches have had a bad reputation and have not been particularly welcomed in the scientific establishment. Nowadays, they are allied to the science of complexity. There still are two “antagonist†positions, however. My purpose in this paper is to argue for a possible reconciliation. By arguing that biological kinds are not natural kinds but functional kinds, I challenge the view of reductionism and holism as two diametrically opposed positions in the life sciences
Simulation Method for Measuring Multitasking Proficiency
Get PDFMultitasking is defined as conducting several tasks simultaneously. There are three characteristics of multitasking. First, multitasking has circular characteristic and demand the performance of several tasks. Second, there is a shift of attention from one task to another. Third, the performance happens in limited time. Many companies apply multitasking to make their human resources more effective and efficient. If this proficiency can be predicted, companies will be able to reduce their expenses by appropriate selection or potential review to their human resources particularly in Indonesia. Therefore, this study attempted to create computerized simulation program as the measurement methods of multitasking performance. Simulation have reflected the real situation by: the existence of various types of matter in the three sets of tasks that must be done within a certain time limit, the subject can move or choose task that they want, and the presence of dual task. Measurement conducted in a quiet room, adequate temperature and lighting, and adjustable workstation. The result of this study built practical implication that the multitasking performance measurement method by using computerized simulation could create the multitasking condition. Therefore, companies or industrial practitioners can use the simulation method to measure the multitasking proficiency of their employees

Previously, edible films has been enriched by temulawak juice with various concentration (2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%). Antimicrobial activity toward microorganism on galamai (all of microorganism and osmophilic group) has been examined using agar diffusion methode. Zone of inhibition were measured after 24 h of incubation. Diameter of zone inhibition for all of microorganism were 9.00-26.50 mm and osmophilic microorganism were 8.50-12.70 mm
