Cross linguistic influence in adult L2/L3 learners: The case of French on English Morphosyntax
Abstract—The potential ways in which learning a second or third language can influence other languages in the mind of the (emergent) bilingual is an increasingly important issue given the international importance of foreign language learning.  This study explored whether learning French as a foreign language influences knowledge of English morphosyntax in learners of L2 French with L1 English (n=21) and learners of L3 French with L2 English (n=9).  Comparing these two groups allowed us to identify whether and to what extent backwards cross linguistic influence (CLI) are different depending on whether French is L2 or L3, and whether English is L1 or L2.  Accuracy on tense-aspects of English morphosyntax was measured through two tasks (Grammaticality Judgement and Proofreading). Results indicated no inhibitive influence from L2 French to L1 English, with potential enhancement of explicit knowledge when compared to a control group of English-speaking participants with no French. In contrast, influence leading to inaccuracy was observed from L3 French to L2 English in that the L3 French learners made more errors in past simple and present perfect in the GJT. Results are discussed in the context of better understanding the nature of developing grammatical systems, together with implications for future work

Rectangular Maze Construction by Combining Algorithms and Designed Graph Patterns
Rectangular digital mazes can beconstructed by algorithms automatically. However, visualaesthetics such as the shapes and structures of mazescan’t be created gracefully due to the mechaniccharacteristics of algorithms. This study proposed amethod to combine the maze generation algorithm andthe graph patterns designed by designers, in order tomake mazes can be constructed not only automaticallybut also creatively
Design Methods for Creative Industry Buildings
Being an important element of the urban space, aworkplace for many people and a landmark for even more, anyindustrial building should be mindfully designed with regard toits importance for the local society. Nowadays, a raisingsignificance of the creative sector of economy requires particularattention of architects and urbanists to summarize the methodssupporting the successful design of creative industry buildings.Among plenty of different design approaches, at first glancepersonal to every architect, we can nonetheless identify a set ofgeneral rules and universal design tools which are shared incommon
AUTOMATIC DOOR OPENING USING GAIT IDENTIFICATION FOR MOVEMENT AS GESTURE
A wide variety of organizations are using automatedperson identification systems to improve Customersatisfaction, operating efficiency as well as to securecritical resources. Gait identification provides a wayto automatic person identification at distance in visualsurveillance and monitor people without theircooperation. Controlled environments such as banks, military installations and even airports need to beable to quickly detect threats and provide differinglevels of access to different user groups. Gait shows aparticular way or manner of moving on foot and gaitrecognition is the process of identifying an individualby the manner in which they walk. Gait is lessunobtrusive biometric, which offers the possibility toidentify people at a distance, without any interaction orco-operation from the subject; this is the propertywhich makes it so attractive. This paper proposednew method for gait recognition. In this thesis, firststep is extraction of foreground objects i.e. humanand other moving objects from input video sequences orbinary silhouette of a walking person is detected fromeach frame and human detection and tracking will beperformed. After getting binary silhouettes of humanbeings model based approach is used to extractthe gait features of a person. This paper proposesa uncorrelated multilinear discriminant analysis(UMLDA) algorithm for the challenging problemof gait recognition. At last neural network for matlabtool is used for training and testing purpose. Wehave created different model of neural network basedon hidden layer, selection of training algorithm andsetting the different parameter for training. Andthen we will test for the combination of NN+SVM,Knearest neighbour classification. Here all experimentsare done on gait database and input video. Hereall experiments are done on CASIA gait database.Different groups of training and testing dataset givedifferent results. The best recognition result for ourmethod is 96.32%
The Law on Corporate Opportunity Transactions by Directors: A Comparative Analysis of Delaware Law and Australian Law
Abstract—  The  separation  of  ownership  and  control  that  is  a typical feature of listed companies  gives rise to agency problems. This problem is acutely reflected in the conflicting interests of stockholders  and  directors.  An  area  in  which  this  problem  is played out relates to doctrinal approaches towards corporate opportunities,  which  has  attracted  a  debate  involving  a comparison of the approach of English law and most states in the United  States.  This  paper  seeks  to  contribute  to  the  current debate  on corporate  opportunities  by comparing  the Australian and   Delaware   approaches   to   corporate   opportunities   by directors. In particular, it explores self-dealing  by a director who pursues corporate opportunities potentially at the expense of his corporation.  This type of self-dealing is worth examining because of its potential effect of depriving the corporation of profits or opportunities  which  may  be essential  to its operation,  harming the corporation, or putting the director in competition with the corporation of which he is meant to be a fiduciary
Clinical leadership and effective nursing teams
Abstract—Health-related policy and its implementation into everyday practice is complex. The key challenge facing contemporary healthcare is to nurture cultures through effective leadership that continually improve high quality, safe and compassionate care. In the role as guardians of patient safety and quality, clinical nurse leaders are ideally situated to influence the performance of nursing teams through positive leadership qualities, strategies and behaviors. Leaders are effective when they are confident and competent, aware of their own behaviours, strengths, areas for development. Effective leaders can establish positive relationships between individuals helping them to make sense of change, implications for poor performance, successes and the future. This present study focuses on clinical leadership and nursing teams and involves a synthesis of findings from qualitative studies to gain further insight into key characteristics of leadership and the reasons why nursing teams are functional or dysfunctional. Using a systematic framework for qualitative data analysis, three distinct themes were revealed. These relate to factors involving individual aspects of leaders, team members and the working environment for clinical teams. The dominant theme was the characteristics of the clinical leader and the impact these have in relation to effectiveness of clinical nursing teams and the culture of the working environment. Clinical leaders demonstrating positive characteristics were described as being ‘authentic,’ ‘inspirational’ and ‘transforming’ leaders for the team. These characteristics were regarded as being the essence of effective leadership. In contrast, others were described as being ‘toxic’ or ‘poor’ leaders. ‘Toxic’ leaders displayed negative personal characteristics, behaviours and conduct which were destructive to the culture and damaging for teams. ‘Poor’ leaders did not display the required knowledge, ability or characteristics. Findings contributed to current evidence that key characteristics of teams include commitment, coordination, communication, cohesion, decision making, conflict management, social relationships and performance feedback. The effectiveness or ineffectiveness of nusing leadership was strongly associated with the impact it had on individuals and teams, their performance and on the culture of the working environment which could have long-lasting effects
Lost Alongside My Daughter with Anorexia Nervosa A Mother’s Story
We used narrative principles to represent the storyof a mother caring for her adolescent daughter hospitalizedwith anorexia nervosa. The data were greeting cards, dailyletters written by the mother to her daughter, and audio-tapedindividual interviews with the mother and daughter. Weidentified themes or categories of information (e.g., settings, relationships, temporality, and voice elements) within themother’s story, and re-storied them into a chronological plotincorporating the mother’s struggle and its resolution.Narrative threads of seeking a clearing, drawing strength, taking stock, ethic of repair, fending off the beast of starvation, and homecoming were identified. Together these threadscomprise the core story of “lost alongside my daughter†thatdescribes the mother’s overarching concern for the daughter’simmediate and future well-being while seeking a pathway tocontribute to her daughter’s care in a meaningful way
Augmented Walking Program: A Novel Approach to Functional Status after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery
The CABG surgery exerts physical, social and psychological adaptive challenges during preoperative period that continue well after discharge [1,2,3]. The success of cardiac surgery is measured by physical activity after cardiac surgery with positive consequences on self-confidence, socialization, return to work and normalization of daily life activities. Investing the time to detail the patients’ pre-operative health education which significantly benefits patients and sets the stage for preventing post-operative complications. The study identified the effect of augmented walking program [AWP] on functional status among patients subjected to Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting [CABG] surgery. The AWP, a multi component approach, implemented during preoperative management and followed up throughout the postoperative period. The AWP included the walking program schedule incorporated with self monitoring of rate of perceived exertion, warm-up, cool down phases along with health promotion advice by using the booklet. The functional status was measured using the six minute walk test [SMWT]. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in the mean scores of functional status during posttest II & III, among the subjects in both groups whereas, the mean score of the study group was much more than the control group which confirmed the presence of a statistically significant difference between the study and control groups with p< 0.01 level during posttest II and with p<0.1 level during posttest III
New Orders In search of a new point-block diagram for Hong Kong
A series of alternative structures for housing areproposed through a design-research prototyping process. Nineproto-structures are developed through the conception andrealization of columns cast in concrete. The series exploresspecific structural principles at 1to1 scale, which are furtherarchitecturally tested as speculative towers for urban living at1to100 scale. At 1 to 1 scale, concrete as process rather than just concrete asmaterial sets the main methodology for the design-research. Trialand error experiments, closely related to the properties of thematerial (liquid to solid formation), seek to put forward newtechniques of formwork design and construction procedures thatare more flexible and more sustainable than past and currentsystems.Design analysis, informed by the work of the early ‘structuralrationalists’ (F. Candela, P.L. Nervi, H. Isler, R. Maillard, E.Dieste, et al.), considers the transformation of structurallanguages in an attempt to revive an architecture for verticalliving (point-block)
