Toward an Approach on Probability Distribution for Polymorphic Malware Analysis

    No full text
Nowadays, computer security is a serious issuewhich attracts the interest from many nations. To identifymalware, most of industry approaches still center the well-knowntechnique of signature matching. However, modern polymorphicmalwares use packer to obfuscate their malicious actions. Asophisticated packer can generate virtually variants of a viralcode, making the signature-based technique easily defeated.Naturally, applying stochastic approach prompts a potentialsolution to handle polymorphic virus. This paper studies anapproach of applying probability distribution for tackling thetwo important problems in analyzing polymorphic malware, which are to identify a potential malware and to detect packerwhich malware adopts. For the first goal, we derive a newfrequency-based weight to identify most specific instructions foreach malware family, known as instruction frequency-inversemalware frequency (ô€€ô€€‚°ô€€ô€€„ô€€‚) . For the second one, we propose anew term, obfuscation technique frequency-inverse packerfrequency (ô€€…ô€€†ô€€‚°ô€€ô€€‡ô€€‚) for evaluating the importance of obfuscationtechniques in packers. We have performed the experiment on4194 real malware and the result is very promising

    Get PDF
Background-Control over nursing practice is participatory process through which nurses have input and engage in decision making about practice policies and issues, as well as personnel issues affecting nurses. It is influenced by various internal and external factors. Staff nurses describe Control Over Nursing Practice (CONP) as a professional nursing function made up of a variety of activities and outcomes. CONP has been identified as an important work environment attribute to ensure patient safety and has been more strongly predictive of nurses’ perceptions of the effectiveness of patient care than empowerment. Patients are more satisfied thru their nursing care when nurses have control over their practice.Aim-The aim of this study was to explore the perception of nurses for their level of control over nursing Practice .Methods-A cross-sectional descriptive research design was used for this study. Quota sampling technique was used to recruit nurses working in one of the biggest MOH hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Participants were asked to complete the Control over Nursing Practice (CONP) Scale.Results- A total of 465 nurses (364 staff nurses and 101 nurse managers) perceived their control over nursing practice (CONP) moderately (5.27±1.10). The majority of nurses (79%) expressed that it is highly important to have a CONP, and (78%) they like to have CONP in their work setting. 46.9% of the participants selected charge nurses/head nurses as the most influential group related to their CONP.Conclusion- This study concludes that the control over nursing practice is an important function that the nurses are expected to do in their clinical practice, however, most of the nurses participated in this study consider that CONP is importance and they like to have control over their practice, unfortunately, they are not practicing it feasibly in their work setting

    Get PDF
Childhood obesity is a serious public health problem all around the world. The problem also currently exists in Hong Kong. Unhealthy lifestyle behavior may be one of key factors contributing to childhood obesity. The review revealed the specific characteristics of childhood obesity and the effective strategies in prevention of childhood obesity in Hong Kong context. Hong Kong is a metropolitan city which is interwoven eastern and western culture. The historical reasons and the complex political issues lead to overcrowded of people living in a small place. The environmental factors and the lifestyle pattern are the crucial causes contributing to childhood obesity. Parents have significant influence in shaping lifestyle behavior of children. While Chinese culture, informal childcare and more energy-dense food consumptions are the specific factors affecting children in lifestyle behavior as shown in the previous studies. The finding of the present review paper is expected to realize root causes of the prevalence of childhood obesity. On the other hand, many studies regarding to the treatment of childhood obesity were also reviewed. It was found that fewer studies were conducted to provide the combined intervention to combat childhood obesity. Generally, parental education was not the focus of childhood obesity intervention programs and parent-oriented approach was not commonly adopted in these programs. While limited childhood obesity intervention programs have been conducted in Hong Kong, it is recommended to conduct an appropriate program for children specifically in Hong Kong context. The design of preventive strategies should take into consideration of these specific characteristics in Hong Kong to reverse the increased prevalence of childhood obesity

This study aims to demonstrate empirically theeffect of earnings aggressiveness, income smoothing, andearnings transparency on the cost of equity with earningsinformativeness as moderating. The purpose of thisresearch paper is to contribute an additional form ofbuilding knowledge about the cost of equity to provideempirical evidence that is more comprehensive inassociation with earnings aggressiveness, incomesmoothing, earnings transparency, and earningsinformativeness. The test was conducted using secondary data fromfinancial statement data. The data sample was taken from209 entities listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange unlessthe company was in addition to property and financialsector for the period 2011 to 2013 and was processed usingmultiple regression models. The methodology of this research is quantitativewith the aim to see whether there are any relationshipsbetween variables. The results show that earningsaggressiveness and income smoothing have positiveinfluences on the cost of equity, while earningtransparency has a negative result against the samevariable. When earning informativeness, the moderatingvariable, is added to the three relationships, it brings inthree different conclusions. First, the moderation weakensthe positive relationship between earning aggressivenessand cost of equity. Second, the moderation strengthens thenegative relationship between earnings transparency andcost of equity. And at last, the moderation does not havesignificance towards income smoothing and cost of equity

Application of Response Surface Methodology for Energy Analysis of Thin Layer Drying of Physic Nut (Jatropha Curcas)

    Get PDF
A central composite design was used to analyze the effects of temperatures, air velocities and drying time on energy analysis of drying process of physic nuts. The data obtained from the drying kinetics were fitted into energy equations to obtain the energy utilization (EU), energy utilization ratio (EUR) and heat transfer rate due to evaporation (Qevap). Response surface methodology was used to generate mathematical models for the energy responses and a quadratic polynomial equation was obtained for energy parameters by multiple regression analysis. Verification experiments confirmed the validity of the predicted model. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) depicted that the quadratic model was suitable for all responses. The predicted and experimental values of responses were in reasonable agreement with each other. An analysis of variance indicated that EU and EUR increased (p< 0.05) with the increasing in air temperature from 40 to 80 oC while Qevap decreased (p<0.05) with the increasing in air temperature and velocity. The optimum value of EU was 5.468 J/s at 80 oC and 5.0 m/s while that of EUR was 0.85 obtained at a drying air of 80 oC at air velocity of 1.0 m/s. Maximum and minimum values of Qevap were 17.1 J/s and 3.979 J/s while drying at 80 and 40 oC and at air velocity of 1.0 and 5.0 m/s respectively. The respective values of regression coefficient (R2) and Adj. R2 of the responses are; EU (0.9638, 0.9379), EUR (0.9636, 0.9376), Qevap. (0.9575, 0.9271). Energy was maximally utilized in the drying process of the physic nuts

Communicating CSR in the Practice of Polish Companies

    Get PDF
Communicating the information about CSR activities (and their results) taken by the company should become the standard behaviour – like informing about the release of a new product or service. In the process of communicating the company's CSR initiatives to the environment, the attention should be paid to several issues. Firstly, it is important that the company emphasizes its social commitment by adding it to its mission, vision and values. Secondly, it is also important whether the company has a CSR strategy and clearly communicates its goals. Thirdly, the company should also communicate the principles of cooperation with stakeholders in the process of implementing specific CSR activities. Fourthly, but not less important, is whether the company measures the impact of its CSR initiatives and communicates the results to the environment. This paper presents the issues associated with the CSR communication from the perspective of the practice in Polish companies

Texting while driving is a dangerous practicebecoming increasingly common, especially among young people. This paper aims to understand the role of social marketingcommunication in affecting people’s driving behaviors. Thepresented research compares the effectiveness of different socialcommunication styles (traditional or shock), formats (textimages, images, community initiatives and videos) and media(TV, radio, leaflet, poster, web, social networks) in influencingthe use of a smartphone while driving. We found that shock advertising has a significant impact ondrivers’ intentions about whether or not to use portablecommunication devices (i.e. smartphones, tablets) while driving. We also found that this impact especially counts for women. Bothrisk self-assessment and risk propensity improve after exposureto social advertisement. The strongest impact on recipients isachieved through shock advertising when broadcasted throughonline videos. Video advertising campaigns are also more likelyto be shared than others on social networks, especially in theshock style advertisement. Finally, advertising through televisionand social media appear to have the highest impact on drivers’behaviors. This paper offers some insights on how to design effective socialcommunication strategies in order to affect drivers’ behaviors
