    Optimization Model and Pollution Treatment of Sintering Ore Distribution

    sintering process plays an important role in iron and steel smelting process. The subsequent production of blast furnace ironmaking is directly affected by the quality of sinter. Among them, the proportion of raw materials and the advanced degree of sintering process are the two main factors affecting the quality of sinter. Because the control parameters of sintering process are too many and the physical and chemical process is too complex, it is difficult to establish and control the model accurately. Therefore, workers have long relied on experience to set temperature and other factors to engage in production, resulting in the quality of sinter is unstable, the cost is not easy to be controlled. Moreover, the flue gas produced in the sintering process will have different effects on the environment. Through the data analysis of the ore distribution scheme and the results of the physicochemical analysis of sinter in a steel plant, two aspects of the work are completed: one is to establish the optimal model of the cost of the sintering process, and the most suitable temperature for the sintering process.     The Effect of Various Polynaphthalene Sulfonate Based Superplasticizers on the Workability of Reactive Powder Concrete

    A superplasticizer is a type of chemical admixture used to alter the workability (viscosity) of fresh concrete. The workability of fresh concrete is often of particular importance when the water-to-cement (w/c) ratio is low and a particular workability is desired. Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is a high-strength concrete formulated to provide compressive strengths exceeding 130MPa and made of primarily powders. RPC materials typically have a very low w/c, which requires the use of a chemical admixture in order to make the material workable for placing, handling and consolidating. Superplasticizer are commonly used for this purpose. Superplasticizers are developed from different formulations, the most common being Polynaphthalene Sulfonate (PNS), Polymelamine Sulfonate (PMS) and Polycarboxylate Ether (PCE). This study investigates the impact of various PNS based superplasticizers on the compressive strength and rheological performance of a RPC mixture. Six different types of PNS based superplasticizers were used; three of various compositional strengths (high, medium, low range) from a local provider, and three of the same compositional strengths (high, medium, low) from a leading manufacturer. Specific properties assessed were the superplasticizers viscosity, concrete workability through the mortar-spread test, concrete rheology, and 7, 14, and 28 day RPC compressive strengths. Two mixtures were produced with two w/cm (0.20 and 0.15), which would subsequently increase the amount of superplasticizer needed, from 34.7L/m3 to 44.5L/m3. The results show that the name brand high range composition produced the overall highest spread, lowest viscosity, and a highest compressive strength at all ages tested. However, the local provider outperformed the name brand in the mid and low range compositions. Additionally, the rheology test also demonstrated that the name brand high range, and RPC produced with the name brand high range, had a lower viscosity at all angular speeds than the others tested

    Remote working in the period of the COVİD-19

    Working remotely was an option for the employees before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it's become a new working format and compulsory for the white collars to work at home. Even if it seems attractive at first look, the new format of working style actually has caused lots of problems especially on employees' mental health. The social life, private comfort zone, and working environment of the workers have mixed with each other and the equilibrium among them which gave certainty and predictability is totally broken now. Actually, the employees started to search for a new normal and balance in the pandemic. I am planning to focus on occupational stress that popped up in the pandemic with regard remote working. It is structured to focus on the problems which are the broken balance between work and family, the problem of workload and over-working, the future ambiguity about the career, and miscommunication, to analyze how these problems bring out mental health disorder with giving experiments done by other researchers. In the final part, I will try to give some suggestions on how to get over it or reduce it

    Evaluation of Sediment Yield Predicting Models of Ghana

    Fluvial sediment transport data is a very important data for effective water resource management. However, acquiring this data is expensive and tedious hence sediment yield modeling has become an alternative approach in estimating river sediment yields. In Ghana, several sediment yield predicting models have been developed to estimate the sediment yields of ungauged rivers including the Pra River Basin. In this paper, 10 months sediment yield data of the Pra River Basin was used to evaluate the existing sediment yield predicting models of Ghana. A regression analysis between predicted sediment yield data derived from the models and the observed suspended sediment yields of the Pra Basin was done to determine the extent of estimation of observed sediment yields. The prediction of suspended sediment yield was done for 4 out of 5 existing sediment yield predicting models in Ghana. There were variations in sediment yield between observed and predicted suspended sediments. All predicted sediment yields were lower than observed data except for equation 3 where the results were mixed. All models were found to be good estimators of fluvial sediments with the best model being equation 4. Sediment yield tends to increase with drainage basin area.

    Identification of an Appropriate Formulation for Domestic Water Ceramic Filters from Soukamna Clay (Cameroon)

    This paper deals with the formulation of ceramic filters having the porosity adapted to domestic potable water treatment. The filters were made from clays and rice husk obtained from the Far North region of Cameroon (Logone Valley). Nine formulations were investigated to choose those that might have the porosity standing between 35 and 50% (the ideal porosity adapted for water treatment) [1]. The nine formulations investigated were as follow: clay:rice husk mixture weight ratio 0.7:0.3; 0.8:0.2 and 0.9:0.1 with the particle size of 100:100 microns. The sintering temperatures of 900°C, 950°C and 1000°C were applied for each of the mixtures. The results showed that only filters with weight ratio 0.7:0.3 sintered at 900°C, 950°C and 1000°C had porosity between 35 and 50% with values of 39.41±0.96; 40.15±1.59; 40.14±1.31 respectively. Mechanical strength, permeability and iron leaching behavior were investigated for these three formulations. The formulation 0.7:0.3 with sintering temperature of 1000°C had the higher permeability and was the more stable for iron leaching so it is the more adapted for water treatment in terms of flow rate and iron leaching behavior, pore size distribution showed that these filters were macroporous and designed for microfiltration with average pore diameter of 0.46µm

    Theoretical Issues and Conceptual Framework for Physical Facilities Design in Hospital Buildings

    This study reviewed the theoretical issues relating to morphological and psychological design issues in hospital building design evaluation. The study of morphological configurations design issues, concentrates on the elements of building, shape/form, the structure of the environment, the structural efficiency and the architectural appearance of the hospital building forms. The psychological design issues focused on the essential issues relating to Proximity, Privacy and Wayfindings. Through the literature review of previous models such as, Khan (2012) Operational Efficiency Model, Haron, Hamid and Talib Usability Framework, (2012), Zhao, Mourshed & Wright (2009) Model, Alalouch, Aspinall & Smith Model (2016) and Hill & Kitchen (2009). A conceptual framework for physical facilities design evaluation and satisfaction in hospital buildings was developed. The study, however, provides useful information for the development of a design framework that can inform policy on hospital buildings

    Impact of Procurement Methods and Procurement Requirements on Cost Over-run of Public Building Projects in Uganda

    Cost over-run in building projects is endemic and routinely increases construction cost to as high as 52% of contract sums in Uganda. The consequence of this is underachievement of investment objectives due to additional costs to complete projects. This research investigated how procurement requirements and procurement methods combine to determine cost over-run of building projects. Procurement requirements of bid time, performance bond, insurance, workload and experience of contractors were investigated within contexts of procurement methods of open domestic bidding, restricted domestic bidding, open international bidding, restricted international bidding and requests for quotations. Purposive and snow-ball sampling were used in identifying construction professionals, consultants and contractors of building projects with cost over-runs. Correlation and independence of procurement requirements on 37 cost over-run datasets were analysed by Spearman's bivariate correlation co-efficient at 5% level of significance and variable inflationary factor of less than 5 respectively. Bid time and performance bond were found to reduce cost over-run of building projects most followed by workload and experience. Insurance increased cost over-run marginally.     Influence of Waterside Buildings’ Layout on Wind Environment and the Relation with Design Based on a Case Study of the She Kou Residential District

    It is important to improve residential thermal comfort in the high dense cities, in which wind environment is crucial. Waterside buildings take an advantage of micro-hydrological-climate in summer that should be used to enhance residential thermal comfort especially in the subtropical region. In order to propose design approaches according to the outdoor thermal comfort of the waterside residential, a case study of Shenzhen She Kou residential district has been made. It focused on various factors that could have influence on wind environment for improving thermal comfort. Using wind velocity ratio (ΔRi) criterion, factors of building development volume, building direction and layout pattern, open space arrangement etc. have been broadly explored using FLUENT simulation. To planning parameters, the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) is significantly influence wind environment, the smaller FAR is better. To the vertical layout of the buildings, multi-storey layout and multi-storey & sub high-rise mixed layout would provide better wind environment. To the horizontal layout, the determinant is better than the peripheral. Other factors such as the buildings’ direction towards the road, buildings’ height, and open space setting, have influence on wind environment yet.     Bangladesh is enriched with beautiful traditional indigenous cultures. Different indigenous peoples with their distinctive existences also considerably create an enhance values and lifestyles to the socio-cultural sectors of Bangladesh [1]. Habitually, these indigenous communities have been comparable to live a large combined family to shear their lifestyles [2]. Presently the country has 45 indigenous communities who are living in different locations. All indigenous people within this country have their own style to build their settlements with special techniques to keep them safe and sound from all types of natural and environmental vulnerabilities and also enhance their knowledge of construction techniques and lifestyle. Rakhain is one of them with very small number of people are still living in different regions within the country which have their own system of building techniques. Study found that for several hundreds of years Rakhains are strictly following their indigenous prescription of house and settlement pattern. Although like other indigenous people of this country, they have mountains of problems, such as forced land occupation, lack of security and minority characteristics. Above all, forced political separation has gradually drowned them in the abysmal pit of marginal destiny. This has turned them into exiles in their own land. As a result, many of them are being forced to leave the country and as a result they misplaced their native knowledge and technique to construct. Thus, this study will initially focus on to search for the distinctiveness of their settlement pattern and building construction techniques and lifestyle.     Change in Adaptability of Residential Architecture: Spatial Analysis on Traditional and Contemporary Houses of Bangladesh

    This study focused on spatial analysis to identify the changes in adaptability over the last five decades. The features influencing adaptability were selected from the reference study. An appropriate method was used to analyse these features through spatial analysis. Six distinctive typologies of rural houses were selected from six regions. Unlike the traditional houses, the contemporary houses in the same area reflected a different character. Urban houses built since the early and mid-20th century were compared with contemporary houses. After analysing the openness, generality, flexibility, depth, typicality, construction technique, involvement of end-users, and the feedback from the inhabitants, the study identified a significant decrease in contemporary houses' adaptability. Spatial analysis was used to quantify the different features and compare between traditional and contemporary houses. Though the adaptability had been reduced over time, the latest houses started to achieve better flexibility in some features due to government policy and implementation of statutory building regulations. Further recommendations were provided to enhance the residential architecture's adaptability in future. The study samples were selected from different regions of Bangladesh. Still, the result and policy recommendations can be helpful for other countries, especially with high population density and a developing economy
