    Enhancing the Performance of Consumer Goods Firms through the Equity Capital in Nigeria (2011-2021)

    This study examined whether or not equity capital enhances the performance of listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The study purposively sampled fourteen (14) out of twenty-one (21) consumer goods firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc. The study used secondary sources to obtain panel data from the annual financial statements of the selected companies. Data sourced for were analyzed using random effects model and arithmetical means. Findings from the study revealed that the coefficient of share capital is positive (0.903050) and statistically significant (p=0.0099<0.05), but the beta value of retained earnings is negative (−0.683966) and significant (p=0.0023<0.05) for listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria. The average results found that 45% and 7% of total assets of the firms were financed by retained earnings and share capital respectively. The study confirmed that the appropriate mode of finance that could be considered for the effective performance of the firms in Nigeria is the share capital. The study concluded that share capital enhanced the performance of firms while the retained earnings did not in the country. The research recommended that the government of Nigeria should try to rebrand its dead local enterprises especially the affected consumer goods firms to enable them to attract more foreign investors into the country to enhance its economic growth

    Hemichorea Associated with Non-ketotic Hyperglycemia: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    Hemichorea associated with non-ketotic hyperglycemia (HC-NH) is a rare disease. The purpose of this case report is to introduce a patient with HC-NH and provide a schedule of examination and follow-up treatment. We also reviewed the current understanding of pathophysiology and treatment and how to apply it to our patients. The case involved a 37-year-old Asian diabetic man who had a 9-day history of losing movement in left limbs and face. His initial blood glucose level was 10.13 mmol/L. HbA1c was 13.6%. Before admission, head CT scan showed suspicious small pieces of left brainstem with slightly high-density shadow and right putamen nucleus with high-density shadow. On the day of admission, head MRI showed punctate T1WI low signal shadow, T2WI high and low mixed signal shadow, T1WI high signal shadow and T2WI low signal shadow of right putamen nucleus. The case findings were consistent with his displayed motor pattern and with the HC-NH diagnosis. Gradual control of the blood glucose levels alleviates his choreiform symptoms. The endocrinology follow-up 6 months after discharge found that his symptoms did not recur after the outpatient’s medication compliance was improved. HC-NH is a rare manifestation of poor diabetes control, but it should also be noticed by clinicians. Early recognition and gradual treatment of elevated blood glucose levels seem to completely alleviate choreiform symptoms

    The Role of Geotechnical Engineering in Photovoltaic Solar Photovoltaic Energy in Arid Climate Regions

    The photovoltaic solar energy is comprised of many engineering disciplines. Geotechnical engineering is one of those disciplines in which it has important functions in the solar photovoltaic technology and particularly for large scale projects which usually employed in open areas such as parks or deserts. The aim of this paper is to present in depth the role of the geotechnical engineering in the solar photovoltaic energy and clarifying the common challenges facing this technology in arid climate regions. It is found that the lack of specialised codes and specifications that needed for foundation design and in selecting the proper foundation types. This would significantly affect the development of this technology in terms of efficiency and performance of the proposed solar photovoltaic systems. The hot weather climate and induced stresses by wind speed are also critical issues that should be considered. In order to avoid the uncertainty of data such as soil properties, the use of numerical modelling techniques is an effective method to help determining the most proper parameters needed for design and analyse purposes

    As after sales services become more and more popular, particularly preventive or corrective maintenance, the intervention and repair of the customer’s goods in a timely and efficient manner ensure customer satisfaction and contribute to the establishment of brand image in the market of the suppliers. The availability and quality of spare parts are key elements of this strategy while ensuring minimal management costs. The reuse of spare parts retrieved from customer systems is a growing maintenance strategy practice which impacts the traditional spare parts supply chain. This reuse is primarily driven by extending the economic life of goods, initially regarded as waste and therefore without added value, by transforming them into valuable spare parts that can be reused; secondly, for environmental or regulatory reasons, demanding responsibility for the treatment of products at the end of their life; and thirdly, to improve the availability of parts for maintenance, especially parts that the organization can no longer purchase or that are impacted by other issues. It also involves the analysis of their condition and their eventual return to working order as they are retrieved from the customer’s systems in a defective condition. In this paper, we will identify and classify the different customers and spare parts by estimating the critical level of rationing policy based on forecasts, identify the thresholds of inventory management policies, and finally, compare the different policies by service level and inventory level performance for the N.A.C.C. company

    Bangladesh’s apparel industry has become the country’s economic foundation. The textile and apparel employees especially over four million people. In this major industrial sector, it is critical to encourage sustainability. When the apparel market and corporations focus on environmentally friendly products, Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sectors remain far behind, putting the country at risk of losing market share. It is right of passage to implement techniques and a long-term strategy to sustainability. Bangladeshi apparel industries are currently facing significant issues in terms of labor conditions. In garment manufacturers, fires are a common occurrence. Thousands of workers have perished because of these dangers. Due to Bangladesh’s fire and safety difficulties, several foreign purchasers have already opted not to do business with the country again. Furthermore, workers receive the world’s lowest pay, which leaves them dissatisfied and frequently results in conflicts and violence during protests poor wages. This study is conveyed based on theoretical, analytical, and statistical aspects. The goal of this study is to represent the overall picture of sustainability in the apparel industry in Bangladesh. This study illustrates on using a life cycle approach to assessing manufactured products for environmental indicators to attain sustainability, fast fashion, government policy of sustainability, new method and material of garments and compare with the lifestyle of Europe against Bangladesh. This paper investigated Bangladesh’s garment industry’s working environment, fire, and safety hazards, and made suggestions for important environmental and sustainability activities.     Climate Change and Biodiversity in West Africa Sahel: A Review

    Climate change has many effects on biodiversity. Few studies have focused on the consequences of climate change on biodiversity in West Africa Sahel which is one of the most sensitive regions to climate change. Thus, this study examined the different effects of climate change on biodiversity in West Africa Sahel to guide climate policies. The authors used Google Scholar, Mendeley, ResearchGate, Science-direct, and selected websites of institutions in West Africa and the Sahel for the literature review, with selected keywords in French and English via Boolean operators from 2000 to 2022. The results identified many manifestations of climate change such as drought, lightning, floods, high winds, heavy rains, diseases, extreme heat, and conflicts that affect living things in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in these regions. For example, 15,000 animals died in Niger and 26,000 in Mali due to flood-related events. In Burkina, 41 people died, 112 injured, and 12,378 households were left homeless in 13 regions. In Senegal, water stress in the basin is increasingly close to 5,800 m3 per person per year. Demographic pressure and planned irrigation projects along Niger and Senegal Rivers have resulted in a significant 25%- 60% decline in flows over the past 30 years, causing increasingly severe low flows, frequent interruptions in water flows, drying up of reservoirs and reduced water supply to cities. Rainwater harvesting, afforestation, soil fertility regeneration practices and crop diversification are some biodiversity restoration activities limiting climate change effects in the Sahelian countries of West Africa. These practices have contributed to strengthening the resilience of ecosystems in most of communities. However, priority should be given to policies that raise communities’ awareness on the importance of biodiversity conservation and take sustainable and innovative measures to deal with the consequences of floods, droughts, and heat waves, which are the most severe

It is urgent to develop practical clean energy vehicles. The performance of electric vehicle depends on the power battery pack. The working temperature of the battery pack has a great impact on the performance of the battery, so it is necessary to carry out thermal management on the battery pack. Taking a lithium-ion battery as the research object, the temperature field of the battery pack in the charge and discharge state is simulated and analyzed by using CFD simulation software in the way of air cooled heat dissipation, so as to understand the influencing factors of uneven temperature field. At the same time, the development trend of battery temperature can be well predicted through simulation, so as to provide theoretical basis for the design of battery pack
