Analysis of Simple Additive Weighting Method (SAW) as a MultiAttribute Decision-Making Technique: A Step-by-Step Guide
The simple additive weighting (SAW) method is one of the oldest and most widely used decision-making methods. It has a simple process that can be utilized in different subject areas such as engineering, environmental sciences, and energy. The main concepts of the SAW method are introduced in this paper and then a step-by-step guide to using SAW technique for decision-making and ranking purposes in multi-attribute cases is presented
Cost Comparison of Different Types of Formworks
Formwork is the temporary moulds in the construction which are fabricated based on drawing and design of the structure and into which the concrete is poured to form the required structure. Formwork is an essential part of the construction as it has been in used by the Romans. The formworks must be strong enough to withstand all types of the loads. The joint must be in proper conditions to avoid any kind of leakages. The materials used for the formworks should be economical, easily available and durable. The formworks can be made up of different materials such as plywood, steel, aluminum, composite material etc. In Steel formwork the plates used for the slab support are made up of galvanized steels and these are fabricated as per the requirements. Aluminum plates are used in the aluminum framework along with the other components made up of aluminum. The selection of the suitable framework is important in any project because it bears about 25 to 30% cost of total cost of construction. In the present study, different types of formworks such as steel, plywood and aluminum were studied in a project and a comparison was made on the reusability and easiness in handling and maintenance. Also, comparison for the formwork used in construction of 5th and 11th floor tower based on the specific plan and drawing was done. The results showed that the aluminum formwork was found to be efficient and suitable among all formworks, although the cost was higher compared to other formwork’s materials

Spatio-temporal Heterogeneity in the Performance of Rural Revitalization in Chifeng City of China: Based on a Range-wide EBM-GML Model
To solve the problems of rural revitalization performance research, a quantitative model of non-oriented range wide EBM (Epsilon-Based Measure)-GML (Global-Malmquist) based on VRS (Variable Returns to Scale) conditions including non-desired outputs is constructed. A comprehensive spatio-temporal heterogeneity research index system of rural revitalization performance is also constructed. Taking the typical rural in Chifeng City as an example, the panel data from 2016-2020 are selected for empirical analysis, the conclusions and countermeasures are suggested as follows: 1) In general, the rural revitalization performance of Chifeng City increases significantly during the five-year period, with significant spatio-temporal heterogeneity. The overall analysis shows that the overall performance value of rural revitalization in Chifeng City is 0.683 from 2016 to 2020. The highest performance value is 1 and the lowest performance value is 0.389. The performance growth rate increases year by year, with an average annual growth rate of 4.46%. 2) From 2016 to 2020, the GML index of rural revitalization performance in Chifeng City is 1.174, show ing an increasing trend. Based on the range of change of GML index, Chifeng City can be classified into three types: Continuous improvement, fluctuating improvement and fluctuating decline. 3) Niujiayingzi, Guandongche, Zhaidamu, and Qiangangtai rural have the highest degree of technological progress
Changes in Mediterranean Coastline According to the Coastal Type and Land Cover under Climate Change: The Case of South-east Spain
Coastline changes were analyzed considering the land cover types and the analysis of the causes that have determined these changes during the past decades. Through the overlapping of aerial photographs and GIS analysis, the results showed that the land surface increased with respect to the previous stage, gaining terrain to the sea, but this increment was caused by anthropogenic processes. In fact, without human pressure, the land surface beside the coastal line would have decreased, especially on the sandy beaches and coastal dunes. Therefore, the beaches are one of the most vulnerable ecosystems and geomorphological systems due to erosion and lack of sediment supply associated with the modified river courses (i.e. by the construction of reservoirs, concrete channeling, etc.), the inner land use changes, and the effects of global warming on the sea level. Climate change studies predict specific increases in the sea level along the coast. The aim of this work is to know if anthropic activity can reverse the effects of sea level rise and coastal erosion. In fact, it has been done for decades with measures aimed to correct impacts and favour economic activity (i.e. maintaining tourism resources) and not from the environmental issue
Assessing the Role of Environmental Factors in the Transmission of Infectious Diseases in Communal Spaces
Communal spaces provide different facilities for users while they are the primary place for the spread of diseases, especially respiratory. Transmission is possible through human behaviors, the way they communicate with each other and breathe in an environment by airborne pathogenic particles. Experts from various fields have gained valuable experience and achievements regarding how to prevent these diseases by means of environmental factors. Due to the spread of the corona virus in the past years, environmental planners and designers seriously considered the need to review the design and use of spatial components. This study provides a framework for decision making and design of communal spaces based on how environmental components can be effective in preventing the spread of respiratory diseases such as coronavirus and influenza. The research method used in this article is logical reasoning combined with ANP method and focus group discussion. According to the results of this research, indoor air quality plays the most crucial role in preventing the transmission of viruses (contagious respiratory diseases) based on expert groups
Inquiring Natural Language Processing Capabilities on Robotic Systems through Virtual Assistants: A Systemic Approach
This paper attempts to approach the interface of a robot from the perspective of virtual assistants. Virtual assistants can also be characterized as the mind of a robot, since they manage communication and action with the rest of the world they exist in. Therefore, virtual assistants can also be described as the brain of a robot and they include a Natural Language Processing (NLP) module for conducting communication in their human-robot interface. This work is focused on inquiring and enhancing the capabilities of this module. The problem is that nothing much is revealed about the nature of the human-robot interface of commercial virtual assistants. Therefore, any new attempt of developing such a capability has to start from scratch. Accordingly, to include corresponding capabilities to a developing NLP system of a virtual assistant, a method of systemic semantic modelling is proposed and applied. For this purpose, the paper briefly reviews the evolution of virtual assistants from the first assistant, in the form of a game, to the latest assistant that has significantly elevated their standards. Then there is a reference to the evolution of their services and their continued offerings, as well as future expectations. The paper presents their structure and the technologies used, according to the data provided by the development companies to the public, while an attempt is made to classify virtual assistants, based on their characteristics and capabilities. Consequently, a robotic NLP interface is being developed, based on the communicative power of a proposed systemic conceptual model that may enhance the NLP capabilities of virtual assistants, being tested through a small natural language dictionary in Greek
Investigation on the Effect of Length and Amplitude of Sinusoidal Wavy Vortex Generators on the Heat Transfer Rate, Pressure Drop, and London Factor in Compact Heat Exchangers: the effect of length and amplitude of sinusoidal wavy vortex generators in compact heat exchangers
Compact heat exchangers (CHE) improve the heat transfer rate with lighter weight and lower volume than other counterparts. An important point in CHEs is their higher pressure drop relative to conventional heat exchangers. This study aims to investigate the heat transfer rate and pressure drop in some proposed models of these heat exchangers with/without vortex generators (VGs) in different cases. A hot fluid of temperature 350°C flowing through tubes and a cold fluid of temperature 300°C circulating inside the shell are assumed. To this end, several VGs with sinusoidal wavy shapes are designed and examined with different amplitudes of the sine wave and different lengths to determine the effects of these parameters on the heat transfer rate of tubes and pressure drop along the heat exchanger length. In the 2D steady-state laminar fluid flow, governing equations are discretized using the finite element method and analyzed for Reynolds numbers 400 to 1000 in the ANSYS software. Finally, with a 5.06% increase in the Nusselt number, the sinusoidal VGs of amplitude 1 and length 6 mm quantitatively indicated the best performance in terms of the heat transfer rate and pressure drop (London factor) among the studied cases
The Demand for Money and Inflation in Ethiopia
One of the vital components of the macroeconomic model that helps policymaking is the demand for money function. Having reliable predictions on the money demand function helps in determining the optimum growth of money supply which is vital in controlling the inflation rate in the economy and also preventing monetary disturbances from affecting real output. In order to formulate and estimate the money demand function in Ethiopia, this study used quarterly data from 2000Q3 to 2021Q2 and employed the Ordinary Least Square method and Engle-Granger two-stage procedure for empirical analysis. The empirical result from the models indicates that, in the long run, all variables (real GDP, CPI inflation, real effective exchange rate, real interest rate and lagged real money balance) are significantly affecting the demand for money in Ethiopia. Whereas, the estimated coefficients of the short-run variable show that the real effective exchange rate, CPI inflation, and lagged real money balance are the main determinants of demand for money while the real GDP and real interest rate are insignificant. Another important finding is that absolute value of the coefficient of the error correction term implies that about 54.2% of the disequilibrium in real money demand is counter-balanced by short-run adjustment in each quarter. The study suggests that in conducting monetary policy, policymakers should consider not only the behavior of income and price but also the movement of exchange rates. The study also calls for appropriate formulation and estimation of the all-encompassing demand for money function that is capable of bringing stability to the growth of money coupled with sustainable economic growth
