    Named the unofficial “Mayor” of the city, Reuben Harpole has devoted his life to community service and advocacy. Harpole worked at the School of Continuing Education for 31 years, and he was senior outreach specialist at the Center for Urban Community Development until 1997. His list of accomplishments also includes the numerous programs he has been instrumental in creating or assisting. Some of these achievements include college preparation programs, the Milwaukee Public Schools’ Homework First Program, and the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center. Harpole continues to serve as a role model and example of the significant impact one person can make to their community and others

    A life-long Milwaukee resident, Senator Lena Taylor is serving her second term in the Wisconsin State Senate, representing the 4th Senate District, including Wauwatosa, Glendale, and the northern portions of the City of Milwaukee, where she and her son Isaiah currently reside. Senator Taylor was first elected to political office in 2003 in the Wisconsin Assembly. In 2005, she was elected to the Wisconsin Senate, and became the thousandth senator, the twentieth woman, the fifth African-American, and only the second African-American woman to serve in that legislative body. Senator Taylor is the Senate Ranking Member of the Joint Committee on Finance, and the Ranking Member of the Joint Committee on Review of Administrative Rules and the Joint Review Committee on Criminal Penalties. She also holds a seat on the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Veterans and Military Affairs, and the Joint Legislative Council. Having graduated from Rufus King High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Senator Taylor was shaped by the city of Milwaukee and has dedicated her life to contributing back to her community. After attaining a law degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, she practiced as a public defender and eventually opened Taylor & Associates Law Office. Senator Taylor still holds legal clinics in Milwaukee
