Providing Sustainable Clean Water to Raing Khvav Village in Pursat, Cambodia

    Get PDF
While water scarcity alone is one critical issue facing the world today, it is estimated that 2.1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water; moreover, 4.5 billion still lack proper sanitation, thus causing 340,000 deaths of children under 5 years old from diarrheal diseases.(U.N. Report, 2019). Families and communities are locked in a cycle-of-poverty as they are affected by serious waterborne diseases - including viral and bacterial gastroenteritis, dysentery and cholera. A national NGO in Cambodia, Life with Dignity (formally Lutheran World Development Cambodia), has been actively engaged in identifying rural communities with available water resources, yet lacked a proper water system infrastructure to enable clean water access to individual households. In late 2018, LWD approached me to assist in conducting a Water Access Feasibility Study for a rural village, Raing Khvav, in Pursat Province. The case study includes the following: 1)Socio-economic review of the village community of 208 households; 2)Analysis of the village’s current access to clean water; 3)Identification of local, clean water source options that are available; and finally, 4)Propose a new water system that can meet stated objectives and key performance indicators(KPI).departmental bulletin pape

Collection of Kyoritsu Women’s University Museum : Study of the work “tea utensils bag (drawstring bag)”

    Get PDF
The authors examined tea utensils bags (drawstring bags) in the collection of the Kyoritsu Women’s University Museum, centered on the works’ relationship to Meibutsu-gire (imported fragments used for tee utensils) in the same collection, which were examined in a previous study. They found that the fragments used in the tea utensils bags did not match Meibutsu-gire. However, there were commonalities apparent in the sumi-ink writing between the wrapping paper and paper bags used in the tea utensils bags and the paper tags etc. of Meibutsu-gire, and the possibility is quite high that these could have been subject to appreciation and study as Meibutsu-gire or ancient fragments, as parts of the same collection. However, almost no cases were found in which the content of sumi-ink writing on the wrapping paper and paper bags matched that of the tea utensils bags. Although the current whereabouts of the tea canisters and tea utensils bags depicted in the sumi-ink writing on the wrapping paper and paper bags is unclear, at a minimum it can be said to be clear without a doubt from the commonalities in the sumi-ink writing between both that these tea utensils bags were preserved in the same manner as Meibutsu-gire. In addition, although it is conceivable that attempts could have been made to store these tea utensils bags in the same manner as Meibutsu-gire after they were separated from the traditional wrapping paper and paper bags, at this point in time it is thought that deviations arose with the sumi-ink writing because they were not managed through such writing. It can be said that the works of tea utensils bags (drawstring bags) and various Meibutsu-gire in the Museum's collection not only convey contemporary people’s values regarding textiles and concepts of Meibutsu-gire but also are valuable works for enabling contemporary people to learn about the history of the collection and dispersion of works of art, including ancient fragments.departmental bulletin pape
