    A direction out there

“Readwalking”, two words brought together to describe a simultaneous act of reading and walking, of reading as walking, of walking as reading, of sounding a text about walking, step by step, one word calling the other, following one’s senses, like Thoreau. CD The double CD (Edition Wandelweiser, June 2021) brings together four contrasting interpretations of an open score and the act of readwalking at its core, each track taking an entirely different direction out there. The individual and collective renditions are based on a radical pruning of David Henri Thoreau’s transcendental essay about walking (1851). Footnotes provide suggestions on how to speak, sing, sound the remaining words, alone or with others, inside or outside, sitting, standing or walking. readwalking in le puid (43:28) – schuppe (voice), thut (viol) readwalking in thornton heath (06:50) – waeckerlé (voice) readwalking in haan (31:32) – beuger (harmonica, children glockenspiel, voice), schimag (lyre, voice) readwalking remotely (30:10) – reber (field recording, electronics), waeckerlé (voice) Followed by several more ‘directions out there’: readwalking performances at Klangraum 2021 in Düsseldorf in Aug 2021. Book A direction out there – readwalking (with) Thoreau, a pocket size book bringing together the prepared text, the score and two essays: Michael Hampton on the literary flaneur, Vicky Smith on Ecriture Feminine and media permeability, is available from MA BIBLIOTHEQUE. ‘Wherever a (wo)man separates from the multitude, and goes her own way in this mood, there indeed is a fork in the road’. Life without principle, (Henry David Thoreau, 1863)

The impact of national culture on strategic IT alignment: a multiple-case study of subsidiaries of multinational corporations

    No full text
Through a multiple-case study of three subsidiaries of multinational corporations (MNCs), we examined the impact of national culture on strategic information technology (IT) alignment. We found that the headquarters and subsidiary host national cultures affect alignment indirectly, through variables in the organizational context, including intercultural communications, IT governance, management style, differences in work values and practices, and cultural conflict and mistrust. Based on the findings, we propose a model of national culture and alignment

Designing location-specific 3D printed vessels using mobile-based multi-sensor data fusion

    Get PDF
This paper presents an innovative creative process for designing ceramic vessels. The authors detail how three disparate concepts – mobile device-driven creativity, digitally designed and fabricated ceramics, and multi-sensor data fusion – are unified and applied to an emerging practice where sensor data are used to generate vessel designs via a prototype smartphone app. A pilot study is presented, where users in a variety of locations tested the app and their designs were 3D printed, with location becoming a tangible parameter. Results show the feasibility of using data-fusion, mobile devices, and digital fabrication to create physical, location-specific artefacts. Broad implications and potential ways forward are then discussed

    No full text
Disenchanted India and Beyond: Musings on the Lockdown Alternatives engages with the lineages of the present disenchantment and everyday issues of people in India and beyond. It depicts local, regional, national and global transitions in politics, economy and society. It rejects the ideals that promotes 'there is no alternative' narratives. It unravels the way reactionary and right-wing forces weaponize pessimism that helps capitalist forces and undermines working classes. The book examines existing and available alternatives for a prosperous and peaceful society. The book argues for pluriversal political and philosophical praxis to consolidate and defend the progressive achievements of the working-class struggles
