The Whole System of Knowledge / Wisdom Constructed by the Endless Cycle of Interpretation: On Foucault’s The Order of Things: Archaeology of the Human Sciences
The whole system of knowledge / wisdom, in the 16th century of the West, is supposed to be based upon the conception of “similarity.” This study focuses on the way people of that time would recognize things in the world and comprehend abstract ideas, reading and analyzing Michel Foucault’s texts of The Order of Thing which deals with the epistemological characteristics of three periods: the Renaissance, the Age of Classicism, and the Modern Era. As a consequence, a profound insight of the intellectual world in the European Middle Ages was gained that informs the present discussion of how the sequence of interpretation underlying the relationships between “sign” and “similarity” in their surroundings depends upon the imaginative space of macrocosm and microcosm.departmental bulletin pape
Relation between mechanical properties of blouse fabrics and shape of frills
This paper discussed relation between mechanical properties of blouse fabrics and shape of frills. Differences in mechanical properties were noticeable in tensile and compression energy, tensile elongation, bending rigidity, hysteresis of bending moment, shear rigidity, and hysteresis of shear force. It was found that bending and shear characteristic values become high when yarn count and thickness is thick. It was found that shape of frill is clear when value of ∛(B/W) is large, and it is hanging when value of ∛(B/W) is small. In addition, shape of frill was different depending on treatment method of cloth edge.departmental bulletin pape
Current Situations regarding nursery school infants’ weaning foods
We made a current situation survey on infants’ weaning foods with 361 parents whose children enroll in the classes for one-year-old and younger in the nursery schools managed by Gifu City. The collection rate was 80.6%. As a result, we learned as follows; The parents are highly interested in food combinations and nutrition. Meanwhile, they are less interested in inheriting the food cultures. The largest number (31.6%) of parents answered that they make most of their children’s meals by hand and sometimes use ready-made baby foods as well. More than half of them spend over twenty minutes to make one meal, but they want to make it shorter, within twenty minutes. They also think it a problem that they don’t have a large repertoire of foods and menus, so they want more useful information such as recipes. The survey suggests that we should keep on giving menus which make good use of ready-made baby foods, save the cooking time, and use a various kinds of foods including local specialties through our future activities for food education in local areas and nursery schools. These activities will lead to good child care supports which meet the needs.departmental bulletin pape
Some Methods of Assessing the Conversational Ability of Non-native English Speakers
Evaluation of the oral communication ability of non-native speakers (NNSs) needs to be done in a way that is directly connected to what is taught in the classroom, as well as being clearly designed so that learners will know exactly what they will be tested on and how it will be done. Research suggests that well-designed exams can actually foster learning. The current report examines two methods in which the speaking ability of students may be tested in university EFL classes in Japan. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are also discussed.departmental bulletin pape
