Comparison of HTN Planning and OR-based Approaches for Solving Problems in Logistics Domains
Logistics is a day-to-day real-life situation leading to a very large domain. Among the various kinds of logistics problems we encounter are those pertaining to transportation, product inventories and location. Traditionally, Operations Research (OR) techniques are used most often and are popular candidates for solving logistics problems. With the development of Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planning algorithms, there has been a recent trend to use HTN planners to address planning problems in general. It is also envisaged that HTN planners could solve logistics problems; yet, no proof or evidence could be found as to whether this approach is more efficient or suitable to handle logistics problems. In this paper, a comparison is done to ascertain whether HTN planning could be more efficient than OR-based approaches in solving logistics problems. Results revealed that HTN planning outperforms the traditional OR-based approach, especially in solving moderate-sized and more difficult harder problems. Furthermore, HTN planning is capable of solving very large scale problems, whereas OR based approach was unable to handle them within the same computational resource limitations.Keywords: Logistics, Operations research, Hierarchical task network, Transportation simplex method, HyperTensio
Diversity of Waterbirds and Potential for Promoting Avitourism in Selected Regions in the Jaffna Peninsula, Sri Lanka
Jaffna is renowned for its diversity of waterbirds, and it is one of the four richest waterbird regions in Sri Lanka. Therefore, waterbirds can play a key role in developing avitourism (‘bird-tourism’) in the Jaffna peninsula. The primary aim of the present study was to assess the diversity of waterbird species in selected areas inside the Jaffna District and to estimate the capability for promoting avitourism. Waterbirds were censused from January-July 2018 by using a spotting scope and binoculars. Simpson’s Index was used to estimate the waterbird diversity. The capacity to develop avitourism and availability of infrastructure were evaluated with a questionnaire survey from each neighborhood and foreign tourists, and from secondary information. Waterbird diversity was higher in the Island location (Simpson’s Index 0.86) compared to the Peninsular location (Simpson’s Index 0.78). The presence of rare species such as the Spotted-billed Duck (Anas poecilorhyncha) and high numbers of Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) increases the appeal for avitourists. It was found that most of the tourists (>50%) were unaware of the birding areas located in the Jaffna District. The supply of infrastructure such as accommodation, restaurant centers, telecommunication facilities, secure drinking water and sanitary facilities is at a medium to excessive level within the location (>50%). Bird watching centers and waste control centers are low within the vicinity (<50%). The high waterbird diversity and availability of infrastructure will help promote avitourism in Jaffna peninsula, especially at the sites included in the present study.

Applying Geo-Spatial Techniques to Determine the Temporal Variation and Conversion Pattern of Land-Use Surrounding Negombo Lagoon
Remote Sensing technology and Geographic Information Systems are the major partners in geospatial technology and they play a vital role in surface, subsurface and above earth’s studies. It provides a better platform for researchers specially in the fields of regional planning, disaster management, natural resources management etc. Observing land-use patterns in a particular area forms a basis for decision making in these fields. The study has the purpose of applying geo-spatial techniques to determine the temporal variation and conversion pattern of land-use surrounding Negombo lagoon. For that, the study has used Landsat imageries of 2003, 2009, 2015 and 2021 from the United States Geological Survey. ISO Cluster Unsupervised Classification method and data conversion tools were used to create initial layers for analysing the land-use in selected four years by using Arc GIS 10.4. software. Intersect and field calculators were used to get a better understanding of the variation of land-use through classified Landsat imageries of respective years. The results will support for measuring area of the conversion of different land-use into another and / or within the same category in a particular area throughout the time. The study concluded that, the used techniques could measure only the temporal variation of major land use types; water bodies, vegetation, built-up areas and cultivations but the minor categories of land uses were unable to detect. However, the better spatial and temporal resolution data enables to improve results to avoid such issues.

Pāṇinian Grammar: An Effective Approach to Samāsa (Compounds) Study with reference to Dharmakīrti’s Rūpāvatāra
Pāṇinian grammar is a prescriptive and generative grammar that governs every aspect of Sanskrit language. Pāṇini composed the Aṣṭādhyāyī in sūtra-style with eight chapters that are considered the cornerstone of Sanskrit grammar. It is accompanied by excellent commentaries of Patanjali’s Mahābhāṣya and Kātyāyana’s Vārtikā, which were crucial in transforming the Pāṇinian grammar into a coherent structural path. The composition of the Kāśikāvṛtti of Jayāditya and Vāmana, together with the Nyāsa by Jinendrabuddhi and the Padamañjari by Haradatta broadened the second stage of Pāṇinian grammar by incorporating definitions and commentaries thereon. The Rūpāvatāra of Dharmakīrti is the initiative work of the prakriyā-style of Pāṇinian grammar that formulated grammatical aspects into a subject-wise methodology and is also considered the beginning of the third stage of Pāṇinian grammar. However, the Rūpāvatāra garnered limited attention from the researchers. The Samāsāvatāra of the Rūpāvatāra, which provides the complete forms of compounds, serves as the basis of this research. Regarding the outcomes, Dharmakīrti has employed a pragmatic approach to teach the compound forms in a way that is compatible with beginners of the subject. The research findings will be carried out by paying close attention to explanation techniques, contents, and other peculiarities of each sub-section in samāsāvatāra.

The findings reveal that Confucianism, with its core values of Ren (compassion), Yi (righteousness), and Li (propriety), advocates for a holistic approach to business. This approach prioritizes long-term societal benefits and ethical decision-making over immediate financial gains. The study contrasts and compares Confucian perspectives with modern financial theories, highlighting the relevance and applicability of Confucian ethics in today's business world. In financial management, Confucian principles encourage prudent investment strategies and respectful stakeholder relationships, aligning with aspects of portfolio theory and wealth maximization but with an added ethical dimension. In corporate governance, Confucianism promotes leadership based on moral integrity, advocating for a governance model that values trust, mutual respect, and social responsibility. This research contributes to the understanding of how traditional philosophical systems like Confucianism can complement and enrich modern business practices.

IoT-Enabled Water Quality Monitoring and Alum Dose Determining System
The water treatment process involves a series of physical, chemical, and biological techniques and methods designed to remove contaminants, impurities, and undesirable substances from raw or untreated water to make it safe, clean, and usable. Adverse weather conditions, such as rainy seasons and floods, present significant challenges, and difficulties to the water treatment process. Alum is mainly used for reducing the turbidity of the water in the treatment process. In Sri Lanka, all water treatment plants use the Jar Test to determine the Alum dosage manually. They conduct Jar Tests to measure raw water quality in their laboratories. The Alum addition valve is set to a pre-determined quantity and the value is decided based on the experience of the technicians. Since there is no specific formula, the presence of an experienced technician is required to determine alum dosage using the Jar test. Thus, this study intends to propose an automated system for determining the optimum Alum quantity to be added to a given raw water sample. This is achieved by designing an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled sensing device for measuring the water quality, which feeds data to a Machine Learning Model trained to predict the Alum quantity to be added. The task of the Machine learning model is to identify the pattern of raw water parameters and Alum dosage. By doing this, a could be provided a guideline for determining alum dosage instead of a manual Jar test and removed the necessity of experienced technician support always. A user-friendly web interface will allow the operators to customize the parameters according to the requirement and display a detailed analysis report. The predetermined quantity of Alum is transmitted to the output Alum adding value, to enhance its performance as an automated control rather than doing the addition process manually. Unfortunately, the lack of proficiency in sign language among the general population hinders meaningful interactions with those who rely on it. This paper presents an extensive analysis of the cutting-edge methodologies in sign language translation, with the ultimate goal of facilitating effective communication between sign language users and the broader community. In addition to reviewing state-of-the-art approaches, this work also investigates into the challenges and limitations faced by gesture recognition research. Overall, it is expected that the study may provide readers and researchers with a guide for future research and creation in the field of sign language recognition
A systematic review on the delivery optimization in food delivery industry
The systematic study seeks to offer an in-depth review of the many approaches and techniques used to enhance food delivery services. It is crucial to assess the current literature to find best practices and opportunities for development given the food delivery industry's recent rapid expansion. A thorough analysis of 20 publications from 2010 to 2023 has been done. The technique used to carry out the controls was then examined, the gaps in the literature were highlighted, and potential research directions were identified. In conclusion, the purpose of this study is to give a review of the literature on the use of route optimization models and to help academics and practitioners understand the performance measures, models, and problem-solving approaches used in various research papers
