The Kirks discussion sketches of William Dean Howells that appeared in the little magazine "Satire" under the classification of "Sacrificial Somebodies." The cartoons reveal the affectionate regard in which the Howells was held by the press in the days before the first World War

This article places in context and transcribes two original letters of George Washington. The first is a military order, of June 20, 1777, from headquarters at Middle Brook [New Jersey], directed to Brigadier Generals McDougall and Glover. The second contains certificates from from Washington and Lafayette concerning the Marquis de Vienne, who fought in the American army and requested a leave from the war. It is dated September 29, 1778 and sent to The President of the Congress

Coad continues in this article his "The First Century of the New BrunswickStage", previous published in this Journal in v.5:1 (1941), v. 5:2 (1942), and v.6:1 (1943). The account takes us through the 23 years of the Masonic Hall Opera House's career until its destruction in 1896. Coad notes that "The new theatre in Masonic Hall made possible a much more impressive program of public amusement than the small city on the Raritan had yet seen.
