Vibration Energy Coupling Behavior of Rolling Mills under Double Disturbance Conditions
The operation of the world’s first multimode continuous casting and rolling F3 (3rd finishing mill stand) finishing mill was hampered by frequent vibrations. Mill vibrations were found to be caused by the transmission and coupling of vibration energy flow. In this study, an overall finite element model of the F3 stand is established based on the structural sound intensity method and harmonic response analysis method, and then, the intrinsic energy flow modes and energy flow harmonic response of the F3 stand are obtained. Further, the effects of the steady-state rolling force variation, preload torque variation, rolling force fluctuation, torque fluctuation, and its phase angle difference on the vibration energy flow of the mill are analyzed. Finally, the effects of the mill damping ratio, strip width, and strip modulus on the vibration energy flow under double dynamic load are discussed to reveal the inherent characteristics of the mill vibration energy flow. The results show that the vibration energy flow of the mill increases with the increase of strip modulus, rolling force, and moment fluctuation; the phase angle difference of rolling moment shows a “V” trend change on the vibration energy flow; the change of strip width has a greater effect on the vibration energy flow of the vertical system; and for the damping ratio of 0.01–0.1, the reduction of the vibration energy flow at all excitation frequencies is obvious.</jats:p
Models of classroom assessment for course-based research experiences
Course-based research pedagogy involves positioning students as contributors to authentic research projects as part of an engaging educational experience that promotes their learning and persistence in science. To develop a model for assessing and grading students engaged in this type of learning experience, the assessment aims and practices of a community of experienced course-based research instructors were collected and analyzed. This approach defines four aims of course-based research assessment—(1) Assessing Laboratory Work and Scientific Thinking; (2) Evaluating Mastery of Concepts, Quantitative Thinking and Skills; (3) Appraising Forms of Scientific Communication; and (4) Metacognition of Learning—along with a set of practices for each aim. These aims and practices of assessment were then integrated with previously developed models of course-based research instruction to reveal an assessment program in which instructors provide extensive feedback to support productive student engagement in research while grading those aspects of research that are necessary for the student to succeed. Assessment conducted in this way delicately balances the need to facilitate students’ ongoing research with the requirement of a final grade without undercutting the important aims of a CRE education.</jats:p

which can propagate asexually by transverse fission of the body column. By altering culture conditions, we demonstrate that the presence of a burrowing substrate strongly promotes transverse fission. In addition, we show that animal size does not affect fission rates, and that the plane of fission is fixed along the oral–aboral axis of the polyp. Homeobox transcription factors and components of the TGF
β
, Notch, and FGF signalling pathways are differentially expressed in polyps undergoing physal pinching suggesting they are important regulators of transverse fission. Gene ontology analyses further suggest that during transverse fission the cell cycle is suppressed, and that cell adhesion and patterning mechanisms are downregulated to promote separation of the body column. Finally, we demonstrate that the rate of asexual reproduction is sensitive to population density. Nematostella,
with implications for understanding the reproductive and regenerative biology of other cnidarian species.

Rising Coauthorship in Sociology, 1895 to 2022
More than 180,000 articles published in 110 sociology journals over 130‚Äâyears reveal that coauthoring is increasingly a disciplinary norm in sociological publications. More than 55‚Äâpercent of all articles published in 2022 were coauthored, and only five journals had lower average coauthoring in the past five years than their overall average. The sample includes both U.S. and non-U.S. journals, as well as specialist and generalist journals. The U.S. journals include those published by the American Sociological Association as well as various regional and specialty journals. When disaggregating the articles by these subcategories, the trend toward increased coauthoring remains. </jats:p
