Get PDFThe design of the Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA) initiative prioritized knowledge translation and research uptake as key objectives in all projects. The project design insisted using ‘implementation research’ – an approach that puts heavy emphasis on testing innovations in real-life settings. It also encouraged uptake by embedding decisionmakers in research teams. Measuring the availability of data for development through the global data barometer
Get PDFThis project developed the Global Data Barometer (GDB) which tracks the use and reuse of data, focusing on governance, capabilities, availability and use and impacts of data that enable better governance, economic growth, and social inclusion. With a network of 109 countries, 6 thematic partners and 12 regional and country hubs, the survey covers more than 500 data points. It takes a broad look at the extent to which national and sectoral data ecosystems around the world are promoting data for the public good. Get PDFIn Ghana, backyard poultry and goat production systems are the most predominant and play a key role in the livelihoods of smallholder farmers especially women, who are usually in charge of these species in the household. However, women do not get the full benefit of rearing these species because of many factors including diseases such as Newcastle, peste des petits ruminants (PPR), and contagious caprine pleuropneumonia, which are the main causes of death for chicken and goats. These are viral disease, which has no treatment but can only be prevented through vaccines. Although vaccines for these diseases exist in Ghana, they are often inaccessible by women due to a variety of barriers, including delivery systems that are not centered on women's needs, preferences, and capabilities; mobility challenges for women livestock owners; and gender norms that affect women's ownership and management of livestock
