Agenda for action : transition to healthy and sustainable food systems in Brazil
Get PDFThe effects of hegemonic food systems have become more evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by agribusiness and mechanisms that broaden inequality, deepening tensions for survival and increasing food and nutrition insecurity. This Agenda for Action was elaborated based on the study “The five dimensions of Food Systems in Brazil: A Literature Review.” These dimensions are identified and their relationships analyzed in terms of policy: 1) Business/commoditization; 2) Supply and Demand; 3) Ecology/agroecology; 4) Health and consumption; 5) Governance and policy. Pathways towards transition to healthier food systems are proposed.Wellcome Trus

It focuses on the evidence-informed, principles-based approach to scaling impact, and accompanying guidance on how to put the principles into action in research projects. Four guiding principles for the training are: justification, optimal scale, coordination, and dynamic evaluation. The training sessions take an experiential approach by prioritizing practical exercises, reflection, case study reviews and peer discussion, so that participants learn by doing. The two sessions of training can be delivered in either an in-person or online setting

No full textThe project identifies areas of knowledge regarding interactions between environmental challenges and impacts on nutritional health, opening an area of research and social analysis for further exploration. This report provides in-depth information, focusing on Argentina, intertwining global food systems and agroecology; legal frameworks and regulation; and analyzing relationships, challenges and conflicts between industry sectors and ministry departments. The project developed a specific research area that seeks to guarantee the visibility and debate of an action agenda on healthy and sustainable food systems that includes aspects of climate change policy, acknowledging current levels of carbon emissions/greenhouse gases
Human rights and healthy diet research support initiative
Get PDFThe HRHD Initiative aimed to support researchers, civil society organizations and policymakers to strengthen their understanding and application of human rights-based approaches to promote healthy diets through regulatory and fiscal interventions in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The Initiative aimed to highlight knowledge gaps and implementation barriers, as well as opportunities and entry points to apply human rights-based approaches to promote healthy diets, identifying priority areas in research and policy where additional support is needed. The HRHD Initiative created a unique opportunity to bring government, civil society organizations and academia together, build networks and improve the understanding of the added value of a human rights-based approach to the development and implementation of food policies and thereby increase the chances that such an approach is adopted

Internal writeshop cum field visit
Get PDFThe internal writeshop and field visit in Cambodia was conducted on April 30 to May 7, 2022 to share the new knowledge and evidence generated by the Climate-Smart Villages as Platforms for Resilience Building, Women Empowerment, Equity, and Sustainable Food Systems project, a 26-month regional project funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Specifically, the activity allowed the participants to review and validate the 13 draft briefs along with the themes of resilience building, women empowerment, equity, and sustainable food systems following the writeshop process; and to get to know the Chhouk Climate-Smart Village (CSV) in Koh Kong, Cambodia. Get PDFThe rural poor of tropical countries are being strongly impacted by climate change, as they live in direct contact with the land and depend on their immediate environment for food, water, medicines, and fuel. This close contact results in these communities being severely affected by wildlife that raid their crops, which often causes significant economic hardships. However, our research demonstrates that some wildlife also experience decreased food availability as a result of climate change. Thus, climate change may be increasing human-wildlife conflict. The objective of our project was to establish a team that could build a graduate research and training network between Uganda, Canada, and South Africa to address the critical issue of how climate change affects crop production and crop raiding by wildlife
